You just decimated a third of our defense for a prospect. I know Marincin doesn't get a lot of kudos but his corsi numbers are actually quite good and he does more good than bad. If you're going to trade for a prospect like sanheim you're going to give up a prospect and maybe Carrick but not all that you're giving. komarov should get him on his own.

I love your thinking. I'd be way more apt now , so I read, to get a package for the nucuchkin (sp)? And oleckiak. Would cost gardiner plus. I'd be more than happy for that. The fact of the matter is, the team will be much better and as much fun to watch but they are still a bottom five team. Adding a big mobile dman and a big winger would be huge. I do respect the fact I'm getting rid of a young dman for it.

Big No. He is 20 years old. He is a elite skater with soft hands, good vision and a good shot. He is 4th in rookie points behind Laine, Marner and Mathews. He is a top 6 forward. His defensive game is improving in leaps and bounds. No he will never be an in-your-face, hard hitting forward, but then again neither will Marner or Johnny hockey. To often the leafs trade promising young players before they reach their potential (Rask for Raycroft How bad does that trade look now? ) Let him delevop. Can you imagine what he will be like in 4 or 5 years. If he doesn't fit in the leafs plans then, he will be worth much more in a trade. Did I mention he is just 20 years old?

You are still living in the past. The horror of the Burkie, Nonnis eras are gone. Enjoy the present. There are much worse trades than Rask.
Example:
The Leafs got a first from Boston for Kaberle, and used that pick and their own 2nd to move up to Anaheims 22nd.
They took Tyler Biggs and Anaheim took Rakell and Gibson. I hope I don't have to explain how bad this was.
But all that is over.
Do we trade Nylander? My short answer is yes. But that's because I don't think he will ever learn to play the other half of the game. He hovers at the blueline in his own zone instead of covering an open man, doesn't back check, doesn't hit, doesn't go get the puck, doesn't steal the puck. Marner does all these things to varying degrees - Nylander does not!
A third year pro hockey player that been around hockey all his life, should have learned how to do all of this by now. He will never change. What bleeping good is 60 pts if you are on the ice for 120 against.
Now when we trade him - is the first time he goes on an extended hot streak like in October. He's already had 3 years and you want to wait another 2? He doesn't fit in the plans now!
They are going to stick him on the Matthews line to pump him up again before they trade him. That's a mistake; if they want to keep him; put him at center and give him veteran wingers. At least the wingers can cover for him defensively. (Kind of what Marner does for Bozak now) .
Good days ahead are coming.
Now if we can just get Tkachuk for him. Probably not doable now, but could have been done in November with a few light additions. Now because we waited to unload him, that will never happen. His value has gone down. He's known league wide as soft.
He's not an elite skater, he seems off balance. Touch him, and he falls over. Elite skaters don't get knocked over by a stick.
And nobody, anywhere, is asking him to be an in-your-face hard hitting forward.
All of the rest of them (Sosh for example) do the dirty work mentioned above. And if Sosh can hit, so can Nylander. No one is being asked to be Wendel Clark (except Martin of course) .
I like some of his offense, but even that is lacking lately. What did he do; take December and January off? I barely noticed him.
Nothing has changed in 4 months. It's not going to change. The only change will be to trade him.

Yes, Marner is better than Nylander. That's why Marner will make more money playing first/ second line and Nylander will get less playing third. As for your comment about 120 goals against. Nylander is -3, Marner -4. Both are pp not pk.
Even if Nylander doesn't make center he will be an elite offensive threat and pp machine, on Toronto, for at least until he signs a new contract. You don't trade someone being paid 900k and getting 60 pts a seasons. even if they aren't a rookie and only going to get better.
You actually think Babcock wants a greaser like Tkachuk? Like sure, he's good and plays a more rounded game. He is also an extremely dirty player and a prick off the ice. I've met him personally and he's a complete dipsh! t. Babcock wouldn't put up with it.
I'm assuming you're just trying to rouse people because you are normally pretty logical. 'Nothing has changed in 4 months'. Better trade a lot of guys if your going to evaluate them on only 4 months. This entire post is garbage.

I have watched all of them in the AHL and Marner and others in the OHL. I track all of them, even the Euro's. My unflattering posts of Nylander started 1.5 - 2.0 years ago. (I wanted Ritchie, Elhers or Perlini at the draft) . He hasn't changed, he's still the Smurf and he plays like it.
I've watched a lot of hockey and the Nylander types win you nothing. They just hitch a ride on the workers on the team.
+/ - is a meaningless statistic for players unless you can point fault to the player. It doesn't track lack of effort or uselessness.
eg; Reilly -8; yet he logs massive minutes and is our best defenseman. If the goalie let's in a bad goal, are the skaters at fault even though they all get a minus.

Stats, Goals, Assists, Game Winning Goals are useful towards offense; like: GWG Marner 4 Nylander 0
To Nylanders credit : 6 PP goals, vs 1 for Marner but Marner's assists on the (2nd) PP will even that out.
120 goals against is an obvious exaggeration.
Defensive value is best evaluated by observation of play and attention to any improvement. No change in 2 years.
The 4 months reference was my hope that starting out a new year under Babcock after a training camp would be the tonic, but nothing has changed.
Sad that you met Tkachuk once and didn't like him. Greaser? Seriously? Name calling, trashing, and labeling?
You can be a PR in NHL, be effective, and be loved for it. Broad Street Bullies and their clones for example. Kadri, Marchand, for other examples.
Nothing has changed in two years before and after the hit to the head.

I live in London, I have met him more than once. I have watched him play live on countless occasions. Tkachuk will not play for Toronto.
My reference to +- was a countradiction to your comment about Nylander get 250 goals against. I referenced it because Marner is very elite offensively and yet he still has had 4 more goals scored against his line than his line has scored. With a lot of pp time and little to no pk time.
I think Babcock wants Nylander to play defence. Babcock says he sees Nylander as a center. Which means Babcock doesn't think he'll be traded. I'll trust Babcock over you, Lab.

Matthews has had much longer goalless streaks than Nylander, guess we better trade him too.
Stop saying 'Marner can do ______' and then use it against Nylander when he can't. Marner is the better player. Matthews does a lot of things Marner doesn't, you can't hold that over Marner.
Tkachuk has been accused of slew foot many times, spearing, hits with intention to injur et all. He did it all the time in junior. Calgary can keep him.
3 years of pro hockey. 2 years in the AHL, where he lead the entire league in scoring before coming up to the leafs. His NHL career is brand new and blossoming, you are far too quick to try and trade him.
I'd rather have legit arguments and statements with bad grammar than good grammar with everything you've said.

Marner also does a lot of things that Matthews can't, so your point is invalid, as well as your own admitted hatred of Tkachuk.

Marner is the appropriate reference when it comes to measuring Nylanders lack of defence. Marner is even lighter, but plays way tougher and smarter than the Smurf.
If you hate Tkachuk; I guess you hated Gordie Howe as well.
Smurf lead the AHL for a short period of time in 2015 not 2014. He was just lousy in the 2014 playoffs. He got sent down in 2015, and miserably failed to deliver in a playoff run while most of Leafs Nation was watching. The most important point.

I have made plenty of good arguments, as has everyone else. I guess you're just the prodigy that can see into the future.
You continue to compare Nylander to Marner. Now Tkachuk to Howe? Comparing players with different skill sets is one thing but, across generations? The game has changed, your outlook hasn't.
Get your facts straight, Nylander lead the AHL for most of last season and was well away the top scorer before being called up to the Leafs.
I'll be on here waiting after trade deadline, make sure you call it out when we trade Nylander and acquire Tkachuk.

As usual you get everything wrong. I was comparing Nylanders defence to Marners defence. You just can't get anything right.
The Tkachuk to Howe was'nt a comparison of the two players just that Gordie is known as one of the most dirty players of his time. That obviously went over your head like most of it. How stunned are you?
And Nylander failed miserably in the playoffs when it counted most. That go over your head as well?
On the trade dead line, little to nothing will be happening, so you'll have to wait till the off season to see Tkachuk.
And Calgary has already stated they won't trade him. They like him better. Don't get jealous now.

You're right, Nylander didn't have a great showing in last years AHL playoffs. So now your down to judging a player over a a couple rounds in the playoffs? After he played most of the AHL season (killed it) and than went on to play at the highest level you can, where he did well . Than he's back down in a different building, different coach, different team. You wonder why he had trouble finding consistency.
Even if Calgary was willing to trade, he wouldn't be coming here. You are the one who keeps saying he will.

I also want to know, how can nylander be a rookie if he is a 3 year pro. Whoever is saying that give your head a shake and give the kid a break. You can compare him to marner all you want. Fact is marner is going to be an elite player. Nylander has a chance to be also. Brett hulls defence sucked ass! He scored goals. You need those to win hockey games.
