Leafs-Canucks at the deadline....

Toronto- J.Leivo, A.Neilsen, 2018 1st rd pick, 2019 3rd rd pick

Vancouver- C. Tanev

New defensive lineup for Toronto:
Rielly-Tanev
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Hainsey-Dermott

Playoff depth: Polak, Marincin.

Massive upgrade from Polak at the 3D spot. Gives Rielly someone to play with from his generation with great speed and skill. Allows Hainsey to assist in the development of Dermott as well as take a cut in 5v5 minutes and exert more energy on the PK. Tanev comes at a very reasonable price which the leafs would be more than willing to pay for a very solid top 4 RD.

Thoughts? Possibly put Hainsey on the right side rather than Dermott?

Stop throwing away first round picks Xmas will come early leafs get nice little piece under their tree in June.

2.) 30 Jan 2018 11:26:14
Leafs defence pairings should be

Gardiner zaitsev

Reilly. Carrick

Hainsey Dermott

Lets try that add something at deadline that doesn't cost a first round pic we have 2 second Rd pics.

David Mackin

Now you have gone too far

Gardiner to play top line d minutes is setting him up for failure . He doesn’t know how to properly play defense (not denying his passing/ shooting ability . would be an OK 4th line winger on a bottom 6 team)

As an example, watch him skate backwards when a player is making a rush along the boards . If he EVER plays the body into the boards instead of puck watching I️ will eat Sebastian Giovincos hat

Same with a 2 on 1. doesn’t understand me needs to eliminate he pass . always puck watching

He simply can’t be a number 1/ 2 D on a playoff team.

4.) 30 Jan 2018 14:38:00
I don't think David was ranking the pairings. Just giving alternate mates.

All of the pairings are playing even minutes 5 on 5. All of the forward lines are playing even minutes 5 on 5.

As the playoffs near, that may change, but the top pair has clearly been Reilly and Hainsey so far.

5.) 30 Jan 2018 16:38:31
Point is I'm talking what leafs have now. Gardiner needs the most stable defensive player beside him. He makes a lot of mistakes in his end but has great offensive capability .

6.) 30 Jan 2018 18:37:13
Hainsey is the most stable D partner not Dermott. It's not even close. May be one day, but Dermott is making several minor mistakes a game; mostly positional miscues.

7.) 30 Jan 2018 19:50:20
Reilly - Hainsey
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Polak
Carrick in the press box, and Borgman down to the minors until the trade deadline

Borgman is waiver exempt, so he's the logical choice to move down and leave open a space for a 2nd reserve forward. He could use some ice time against lower competition to regain the confidence he was showing earlier in the season.

With Dermott's emergence, it would have to be a delicious price for Lou to pull the trigger on a d-man, and I don't see Gudbranson as a big enough upgrade over Polak for that move to be super likely. Babs loves Polak too much for a move to be an inevitability, and they're not looking to replace Zaitsev, move Hainsey to the left or mortgage the future

Unless it's a guy like Tanev or Hjalmarszom for cheap, I don't see anything happening outside of a rental 4C.

Toronto - T. Bozak + M. Hunwick + F. Corrado

St. Louis - T. Vanelli + 2017 1st Rd pick + 2018 3rd Rd pick

I don't think St. Louis is really short at centre maybe you see something I can't see.

2.) 11 Jan 2017 03:42:43
Try Komarov instead of Bozak. Plays all 3 forward positions. Would be a good add for the Wild playoff run, along with the experienced backup D.

But Vanelli is a 3rd line D at best, and the 1st is late; so it's a pretty decent deal. It unloads 3 contracts for us, two of which we don't care.

Toronto - T. Bozak

Chicago - M. Kruger (cap reasons) + V. Pokka + Conditional 2017 3rd

Condition being if Chicago makes the cup final.

Bozak is worth at least a B/ B+ prospect and a pick. Especially at the deadline where players values are often inflated.

MapleLeafer

1.) 09 Jan 2017 18:47:40
Chicago really up against it cap wise and your right they must ditch Kruger to get even higher pick leafs could take 50 % on Bozak I think they need JVR more. Or you could trade both get more pieces take 50 % on both Bozak and JVR turn them into 2 million dollar players for Chicago. And take Kruger as well raid Chicago top prospects and first round pick. Chicago need bodies next year and JVR and Bozak quality pieces at 2 million each I think Chicago bite.

2.) 09 Jan 2017 20:18:27
Chicago would probably want JVR to solidify their top 6 so add a 1st

3.) 09 Jan 2017 20:36:52
Chicago can afford to add a good forward they are not in any danger of not being able to protect him. The area they will lose a player is on defence pokka gets claimed 4 sure so it seems a trade has to be made trade pokka add a forward of high quality.

4.) 09 Jan 2017 20:43:46
Chicago really weak on left wing JVR on second line and they could use Bozak as third line senter

5.) 09 Jan 2017 21:12:04
I really like POKKA

6.) 09 Jan 2017 23:24:41
Not even close to what the Leafs can get for Bozak. Especially taking back a bad contract.

7.) 10 Jan 2017 04:59:13
TorontoBuds

How? "Not even close" he is not going to get you the same value back as JVR would .If they switch the conditional 3rd to a second that's fine with POKKA added. BOZAK is not a star player but he is a good vet and can get you a good prospect with 2nd or lower draft pick.

At the deadline.

Tor- T. Bozak (30% retained) + M. Hunwick

STL- J. Edmundson + T. Vannelli + conditional 2017 4th Rd pick

Condition on the pick- Very similar to the reimer trade last season. If the Blues make the finals the pick remains a 4th. If not, it becomes a 5th.

Maple leafs rid themselves of the old and welcome the young and hopeful. Edmundson, 23, is a big boy who can log minutes which Babcock would love (wish he was right-handed but whatever) . Vannelli is a bit of a gamble but has a high ceiling if developed properly. He's only 19 and is a right handed shot. He's got a little bit of size and like a majority of the leafs young core, is a good skater. This addresses the Maple leafs biggest need for the future. We aren't going to trade for a superstar d-man during the season so we may as well get what we can for some of our aging players.

Bozak WILL NOT be on this team come season end. He along with guys like Polak, Hunwick (obviously), Komarov, Greening and Michalek will all be gone. If not at the deadline, they will be gone at the draft.

Why St. Louis? - St. Louis come the trade deadline will be looking for a reliable centerman who has a high faceoff % and can also put the puck in the net every now and again. Bozak is the perfect fit. He's dependable and has the ability to be an impactful 3rd line center for St. Louis during their playoff run. Hunwick acts as a depth replacement for the Blues.

St. Louis giving up too much? - Remember that players are more valuable at the deadline as teams are more desperate. If a team wants the best chance to win, they will pay. Simple as that.

Ok so I've been seeing a lot of Nylander trades on here as of late. A majority of them have made absolutley no sense. IF Nylander were to be traded (which I am not a fan of in the slightest) it HAS to be for a defender ( preferably right-handed) . So I would propose something like this.

Toronto - Nylander, Leivo, 2018 2nd round pick (SJS)

Colorado - Tyson Barrie, 2017 4th round pick

Any additions/ Subtractions?

MapleLeafer

1.) 03 Dec 2016 06:43:29
I like Barrie, but I would rather give a contracted prospect than the pick.

Colorado's farm team is decimated. I see an opportunity for the Leafs to do a "volume for talent" swap. Kind of like we did with NYI last year for Grabner (only better luck this time).

We have a number of juniors like Bracco who would be better served in the AHL.

There is a number of contracts at different levels who have shown no progress over last year. Time to cull the herd.

JT Compher and AJ Greer

for

Kapanen, Campbell, Sparks, Loov, Frose, and Johnsson.

With the way that Faulk has been playing this year, this is a MASSIVE overpayment. Way too much coming from the Leafs.
