There is a player of interest to me that I think would be a good addition to the Leafs.
His name is Kurtis MacDermid and he is in The L. A. system with Ontario Reign in the AHL. he is 6'5" LHD but I belive Hunwick will be moved at the trade deadline and MacDermid could take Hunwicks spot. very good upside to Kurtis
Marlies trade Johnsson to Reign for Kurtis MacDermid
When Hunwick is moved MacDermid moves up to the Leafs to replace Hunwick.

I also believe Neilsen is an up and comer but rumors are he will be spending another year in the "A" for his skating. and on that note as well Loov is the next to come up

I would say that both Dermott and Nielsen will be spending another year in the AHL and ideally get maybe 5 games of NHL experience next season. Nielsen is big and very gifted offensively but really has to work on his skating and defensive awareness. I bet that Dermott gets called up before he does because Dermott is a steady, smart player that doesn't make too many mental mistakes. Lou has already praised his abilities. No matter how they do I still say that the Leafs are two D prospects short (praying for Foote or Makar in the draft)

Craig button states Neilson is top 4 defenceman and will make push next sept. The second highest defence prospect on Leafs he says I'd JD greenway and predicts next world junior JD makes his mark and in two years he is with Leafs. I was surprised to hear how high he projects that kid.

His skating is not that bad, but could be improved. He is quick for a large kid, and that helps make up for it. He already has all the other assets and keeping him in the AHL will only delay his growth. (eg. Carrick is mistake prone and arguably should have spent 1 more year in the AHL, but he is getting better with every game. His mistakes are less noticeable now) . Neilsen will be in the same boat, but brings much more to the table. And he's got all summer to work on his skating.
Dermott hasn't even had the chance to show what he can do in the AHL yet because of the early injury. He will not make it next spring. If I am wrong and he does, then great.

I like this trade, but seeing as the caps pick will be in the 25-30 spot, maybe ask for another prospect. Not a top flight but something to add. Or subtract the 1st and make it a 2nd or 3rd and add Samsonov

He means we owe Detroit a third round pick back for signing Babs . and that pick has to be our own third rounder and since we deffered it in 2015 and 2016 that means our own third rounder next year belongs to Detroit. I get it the trade buy I'm not sure I'm sold on TatAR but not a bad proposal

Not enough for JVR.
Tator is intriguing seeing as he was a 60th pick and has done fairly well. He is only 2 years younger than JVR, so he doesn't represent the return you would want for JVR. Someone 23 or less would be preferable; or at least a RH Dman that the Leafs need.
But he and a 3rd is not enough for JVR. You need to up the pick or add a prospect.
Question: Why is everyone fixated on getting the 3rd. rounder back.
It's not likely to be used in an offer sheet anyway, just like it hasn't been for a long time now; only 13 unmatched offer sheets out of 35 player accepted offer sheets, in 29 YEARS.
It's just too rare to be part of a planned strategy.
JVR is worth a player and a 1st rounder.

I'd rather Reilly over nurse, even with the second thrown in. I'd happily do the JVR trade though, but it's an overpayment by Edmonton (even if Draisaitl is mostly unproven).
We need to shore up our D more than adding more offence, so if we trade him we should be using JVR to that effect, in my opinion.

Risky business trading forwards for defence. More often than not the forward is seen as the better get because they usually get more points. These trades are unrealistic. Nurse by all accounts has been a force on the backend for Edmonton. And defence is what they need. The Oilers could use those picks to draft what they need instead of making rash trades that only hupe up fans instead of building. For the leafs its not bad except for trading away Reilly. First trade a huge overpayment. Second trade is unwarranted.

There is a player in the L. A. Kings AHL affiliate team Ontario Reign. He is 6'5" LHD. I know we are loaded with LHD, but in my opinion Matt Hunwick will be moved and to replace him Kurtis MacDermid would be a great replacement. He would be a 5-6 d-man. He's a Sauble Beach Ontario lad, 23 yrs. The only reason he is not on the Kings is that they have nowhere to put him. I think he would be a great find and something the Leafs could use at the end of the games to keep their leads. The only blank aspect of his game is his skating ability. Does anyone have knowledge of this.
What is the opine on picking up this player

MacKinnon won't be going anywhere. I think it's dumb on their part that Duchene is even on the block. I think Landeskog is the one to go of the 3. He's a really good, gritty winger but I think he has more hype than he's actually worth with a potential bidding war

Albeit there are teams that would give up an exorbitant amount of players for one player. I for one would say no to that. going price or not. GM's make stupid deals for players that aren't worth what the team gives up or pays in contracts. ie; Phaneuf and many more!
I would trade JVR for Tanev. nothing more. I hope the Leafs say no to this lunacy. Giving up all those players for one is nuts.

Personally all of what the Leafs did or didn't do as far as trades is irrelevant. It seems to me the rookies have hit the wall and IMHO won't make the playoffs. Babcock wants them to experience the playoffs for their future knowledge and training, . The leafs have a problem getting through the third period of a game and until they can keep the lead through the third without experiencing the "wall" the third period is their "playoffs"!
