I'm not sure why I bother because everyone seems to jump all over everyone's suggestions on here but let's have it what do you think about this first round draft strategy.

Torontos 1st-draft callan foote (RD)

Then trade SJ 2nd 2017, Anaheim 7th 2018, josh Leivo to St. Louis for their 1st Rd pick 2017 (as they have two this year)
Trade may have to be altered a bit but it is a late first so it shouldn't cost an arm and leg in a weak draft

Draft Erik Brannstrom (LD) with their pick

JdawgT.O

1.) 01 May 2017 16:15:27
Not bad at all, i'm not a big levio fan.

2.) 01 May 2017 16:36:47
I dought that foote will drop to our hands, he'll be a stud but Connor Timmons is definitely an option. Or maybe trade up to draft foote.

3.) 01 May 2017 16:50:30
You're assuming the Blues would go for that deal, which is a big assumption.

4.) 01 May 2017 17:28:24
I like it but I dunno if Blues will trade away a first for a late 2nd, 7th and Leivo. Probably have to add a bit there.

I also wouldn't use that second pick for Brannstrom, depending on what's available, I would go for goalie Oettinger.
But for the higher pick I would either choose
Again depending on availability, in order of desire.
Foote
Jokiharju
Timmins
Brook
Minulin

Another option could be to trade down as players like Brook and Minulin could be gotten in the second round.

If Foote isn't available at the Leafs pick that would be my strategy. In a weak draft the more darts you throw the better because you jus never know.

5.) 01 May 2017 17:50:17
At the draft,
Option #1
If Foote is available, draft him with the 18th pick and make no trades and let the draft play out as it will.

Option #2
If Foote gets drafted at that moment pull the trigger on a trade with the Hurricanes
18th pick for 42nd pick and 54th pick
Then attempt to trade for the 31st pick from St. Louis
Revamp of a previous trade
54th pick, 111th pick and Leivo
For 31st pick and 177th pick

Leafs then own 31st, 42nd, 52nd

Draft
31. Timmins/ Brook
42. Oettinger/ Hague/ Jokiharju
52. Minulin/ Rasanen/ Chytil.

6.) 01 May 2017 18:08:56
Timmins is a quality back up plan. Brook could be a solid 2nd round pick up!

7.) 01 May 2017 19:57:18
Your on the mark leafs have many trade chips leave Komarov. Unprotected protect leivo

Your trade pieces. After expansion draft could be leivo. Leipsic Kapanan carrick JVR

The leafs are getting a lot back 4 those assets.

8.) 01 May 2017 20:10:46
David

I don't get you? I thought that kapanen was your boy and saying he's part of "the big 4 " then you want to trade him?
I think I just lost some brain cells.

9.) 02 May 2017 01:27:50
Love the idea of drafting Foote. They could also go for Valimaki if he's still available. If Liljegren is still available in the 12th spot might want to trade some forward prospect (s) to get him.

10.) 02 May 2017 20:35:50
It’s funny to see how different Mock Drafts have players ranked. I have seen some that have Liljegren falling out of the top ten which is crazy to think. But there again, who would have thought Jakob Chychrun would have fallen to Arizona at 16 last year. I think if Toronto has a chance to move up a few spots and get Liljegren, they have to jump on it. What does Toronto need most of all. a right shoot defenseman.

11.) 03 May 2017 01:31:59
I would trade up and draft liljegren. he was ranked second coming into the season by central scouting. dropped a bit because he had mono and missed a lot of time, still has the potential to be a top pairing d man with offensive flare.

12.) 03 May 2017 17:35:11
Slim

The only reason chycrun dropped that much is that he didn't play well on the ORR vs Cherry prospect game.

Tor: JVR, T. Bozak, F. Corrado/ prospect

Car: R. Mckeown, J. Gauthier, B. Bickell, 2017 2nd

I understand it's somewhat unlikely Carolina moves some of their youth but this really helps both teams I think. Carolina acquires a real boost to their evolving offense to make them more competitive, and Toronto acquires a strong RD prospect, a strong winger with lots of potential and upside, and a 2nd. Bickell has 1 year left.

JdawgT.O

1.) 07 Aug 2016 16:40:51
While I don't think Carolina will do this; it's not a bad deal. The problem is that Car is incredibly short on RW; just Stempniak, Aho, and Gauthier. Stemp is all but done.

McKeown projects to a solid 3/4 Dman
Julian projects to a 2nd/3rd line center.
Bicknell is gone in a year.
Should be a reasonable 2nd.

So it looks like Corrado for the 2nd - Leafs win here
Bozak in a swap for Bickell - Leafs lose here
JVR for Gauthier & Mckeown - that's a little short for JVR.

How about getting rid of all the extras and trading

JVR for Gauthier and Hadyn Fleury

2.) 08 Aug 2016 04:52:21
I like her for Fleury and Gauthier. Too bad Carolina wouldn't do it

05 Aug 2016 12:29:34
Tor : C. Brown, J. Lupul

Car : 2017 Car 2nd
---------
Tor: C. Greening, B. leipsic

Van: N. Tryamkin, J. Subban
---------
Tor : J. Leivo, T. Dermott, 2018 1st

Phi : I. Provorov (if Phi can't find a roster spot it could cause some problems)
---------
Tor : F. Corrado

NJ: 2018 3rd (ours)
---------
Tor sign J. Vesey
---------.

JdawgT.O

1.) 05 Aug 2016 16:14:48
Good Lord.

2.) 07 Aug 2016 01:15:19
I wonder what it would take to get provorov. It's just so appealing to think about him being added to a leafs roster. Philly DOES need offence. leafs have offence.

27 Jul 2016 07:48:12
Van: F. Corrado, K. kapenen, 2018 2nd

Tor: J. subban, N. Tryamkin

----------

TB: JVR, C. Brown. TB: Drouin
OR
Tor: N. Kucherov. Tor: JVR

I'm sure there will be haters but I believe these trades could help all sides, value could be off about, not sure. Who adds or alters?

JdawgT.O

1.) 27 Jul 2016 12:40:52
I like the Vancouver deal

2.) 27 Jul 2016 17:50:37
Haters? Are you 12 or something?

3.) 27 Jul 2016 21:01:13
Subban is a midget and Tryamkin only projects to be a large shut down guy. I wouldn't trade Kapenan alone for them. Overpayment for Drouin

4.) 27 Jul 2016 22:07:22
I tried posting a similar VAN deal yesterday but doesn't seem to have gone through. Was Tryamkin & Brendan Larsen for Colin Greening. Basically Tryamkin for Greening, with Larsen buried to balance cap hits. Tryamkin develops with Marlies while freeing a forward spot for our logjam of wingers.

26 Jun 2016 22:06:34
To TOR: SAAD

To CLB: JVR

Works in a underlying way for both teams, Toronto gets a younger similar winger and Columbus gains 1.5 in cap space to help them sign Jones.

JdawgT.O

1.) 26 Jun 2016 23:08:07
Why in the world would you take on someone else bad contract? Yes bad contract.

I get he is 23 but has 5x$6 AAV left. Talk to me when he has 3 years left let me know what you are thinking.

Why would you be looking to help others cap as you state?

In 2-3 years you have to extend Nylander, Marner and Matthews.

Thoughts on Jimmy Vesey and whether he's worth the hype?

JdawgT.O

1.) 15 Aug 2016 22:46:10
It's obvious that Vessey has size, skating, and offensive smarts. The question is how well he can play the physical and defensive side in the NHL. Of course that is the same question for all rookies. But I think he'll do fine.

He is a low risk; on a cheap one year fixed entry level contract. It's like getting a free 1st round draft pick. If he works out, then great, if not, then it wasn't meant to be.

To steal him from Buffalo is worth the money and effort alone. The argument for him to go to Buffalo is to play with Eichel.

But he gets to play in Toronto with a No. 1 OA center, and with an 8th OA on the right wing (later on maybe Marner), and with a quality goalie in net. And develop with them.

Money-wise you can't beat the center of the hockey universe with all the commercial and endorsement extra's, you really can't get as a hockey player anywhere else. (Can. Tire is still sniffing around).

As for the media fishbowl; why would you want it any other way; that's what will make it beyond great.

Go to Buffalo, succeed; become a Sabre star. Forgotten 5 years or less after, or even before retirement.

Go to Toronto, succeed; become a hockey god. Honored for decades. Watch a city get shut down for a day or two.

Besides we have cap space next year when needed.

And, oh yeah! We've got Babs. Guaranteed to elevate your play and your value.

Lastly. Buffalo is in what year of their rebuild and haven't made the playoffs yet. They have no goalie. They have Evander Kane. They have Tonnawanda, Cheektowaga, and so on for fans.

Toronto has a nation of fans.

2.) 19 Aug 2016 17:56:27
Hype is not worth anything

3.) 20 Aug 2016 21:11:48
Apparently staying close to home is the most important thing you can hope to achieve in hockey. The Rangers are not getting better; poor choice.

Can't believe he didn't go to Buffalo. Must prefer seafood to wings.

Projected leafs season starting line up barring any other major moves in the off season:

JVR - Kadri - Nylander
Komorov - Bozak - Soshnikov
Rychel - Matthews - Marner
Martin - Hyman - Laich

Extra forwards : Greening, Michalek, Holland, Brown

Reilly - Zaitsev
Gardner - Hunwick
Polak - Carrick

Extra D-men - Marincin, Corrado

Anderson
Bernier

Thoughts? Would anyone change?

JdawgT.O

1.) 07 Jul 2016 03:05:01
I think rychel and Martin are swapped for safety to start the season at least, as well as hunwick and polak for the sake of having rhd on right side and lhd on left side

2.) 07 Jul 2016 17:36:50
JVR- Bozak- Nylander
Komarav- Kadri- Soshnikov
Vesey- Matthews- Marner
Martin- Hyman- Brown

Extra Forward: Michalek

Reilly - Zaitsev
Gardiner- Schenn
Hunwick - Polak

Extra Defence: Marincin

3.) 13 Jul 2016 02:52:12

Starting to think best offer Toronto will put together is around 9mill per season + 3.5 mill off books marketing cash. What are the chances he bites? (Heard rumor Buffalo willing to offer 12 mill per) thoughts?

JdawgT.O

1.) 26 Jun 2016 17:29:05
12 million is ridiculous money. Can't see how this helps Buffalo long term, not to mention all that money tied- up to one player.

25 Jun 2016 18:44:17
And there you have it, leafs draft complete with some solid prospects added to the system. They clearly had a plan to add size, defense and a goalie to add to their system. This year was not the year to draft multiple goalies as; 1.there were not any highly mentioned goalies in this draft, no standouts. Yes some good net minders but nothing special. Next year is the goalie year. With the draft over, it is time to look at salary management, and finding slots for the young ones ready to make the step. Also looking at any potential trades to make them better for years to come (aka a top 2 D) . And then maybe come July 1st we will look at free agency.

JdawgT.O

1.) 26 Jun 2016 22:12:46
I have to say that I hit the Disagree button only because of the draft. I don't think it was a solid draft for Toronto. I was SHOCKED to see Toronto draft someone at pick 31 that was not even ranked in any of the mock drafts that I looked at! If they wanted a forward, they could of had pick 32 Tyler Persons who wore the "C" while representing Canada last summer means he has leadership abilities. If he wasn't injured last year, he would have been a top 15 pick. But Toronto needs top end defense and they didn't get any in this draft.

I do agree with you goalie comments and logic. I guess only time will tell how this draft turns out for Toronto but I wasn't impressed.

21 Jun 2016 16:18:34
Bernier's numbers may have been weak but he is not a terrible goalie and puts up numbers that can be similar to andesen's. Not that he should get as much but there is no point in retaining salary to trade him. With the cost of MAF being calgarys 1st Rd and 6th, that maybe be more then they want to give at the moment. What about trading Bernier for a 2nd and 3/4th. As they do not have a goalie signed for this year and the asking price at the moment is a 1st Rd pick for goalies available since the 1st goalie traded(Andersen) set the precedent. temp solution for next year until goalies are cheaper due to the expansion. He is definitely better than their goalies last year. thoughts?

JdawgT.O

1.) 21 Jun 2016 19:34:58
Even if it's just one of the picks to shed a bit of salary in the net since he is a UFA next year anyways

2.) 23 Jun 2016 00:54:14
Trade Bernier for anything you can get for him. What we saw last year was a goalie who was handed the job and failed to run with it. We saw no effort and no ability when he knew the job was his to take.

He only came on when the season was meaningless, but the soft goals from far out still continued. The sooner this cancer is cut from the team, the better.

4.15 M flushed last year and this year again; so yes trade Captain Dunsail. (translates to useless part)

Clearly this is a joke, as Toronto would have to be stupid to trade a young A prospect that has shown he can he can be a force for a 32 year old Sranan who had his time with the leafs already and is on the wrong side of 30

No reason to do this at this point I don't think, especially after signing enroth. Maybe we revisit goalie situation come expansion draft time. But for now we are set in the nhl and bibeau and sparks in the ahl and finally have just drafted a potential future goalie in Woll, no reason to trade away for another let's see what we have

I love the idea of going after drouin since the lightning will eventually have to let someone go but JVR just doesn't fit in the plan of TB first of all since he would cost more than drouin after one season. Also I think after his run at the end of the year that Toronto would add unless you lowered the pick. But I doubt the Lightning will be looking for a high paid player in the trade. More than likely you have to take a dump back or trade drouin for picks

133pts and a +13 in those 162 pro games. If Nylander is showing to be a bit inconsistent, it doesn't mean you trade him automatically. He is still a kid at the end of the day and needs to be taught. Look at Kadri, he's never looked as good as he does now, people develop their games at a different pace. Nylander clearly has the offensive touch and hockey sense but needs to develop other areas of his game. It doesn't mean you just give up on him and trade him. Look what's happened over the years when we made holes to fix holes. We ended up with years of agony. Give the kid a chance. It's too early to trade him. The leafs aren't a cup contender in the next year anyways. Let him develop and teach him, then maybe when you've increased the value you think about trading him. And the best player in the game was traded when the value was highest. Not because he's had a few hiccups

Zaitsev signed in Toronto over other teams for a reason clearly, he must either like what he sees or likes the opportunity he is being given. Since he is an RFA next year, we be able to use this year as a test to see if he will work out and what he's worth. So no I'm not too worried at this point
