Carolina doesn’t want low level guys for top year guys, they will want at least Kapanen for them.

2.) 25 Jul 2018 05:20:04
Carolina’s GM may have been born at night, but not last night.

Trying to overwhelm Carolina with volume is not likely to work. You’re trying to poach a 1RHD, who also happens to be one of the ‘Canes co-captains, and a top line winger, who just so happens to be one of their alternate captains. In exchange you are offering an overaged pending UFA in Hainsey that Carolina definitely does not need, a late1st, and some throw ins that will never make the Leafs in any meaningful capacity.

I think you need to sharpen your pencil a little on this offer and think about giving Carolina a useful player rather than just some castoffs.

3.) 25 Jul 2018 05:22:11
Possible but unlikely, plus why do you have Dermott on the right side and Myers on the left, it doesn’t make sense
Put Skinner on Matthews line and bump Hyman and Marleau down, Skinner is much better then both of them.

4.) 25 Jul 2018 05:53:56
The Jets won't be trading Myers now. Not until the Trouba situation is ironed out. If Trouba stays then Myers will likely go. If Trouba goes then the Jets will likely extend Myers.

Pretty sure that Carolina won't make that trade. They don't need any LHD, they have tons. JVR would be a downgraded for Skinner.

And how on earth would you keep that team under the cap when you have to pay Nylander, Matthews, and Marner?

2.) 04 Dec 2017 17:07:50
Gotta manage the roster, but you also got to manage a salary cap. Something I think you forgot about here.

3.) 05 Dec 2017 00:34:48
No love for Hainsey?

4.) 05 Dec 2017 15:12:17
These proposals are moronic. And just because there are only so many spots on the roster does not mean you go and deplete your system by trading people away. Detroit was a model franchise for decades because their system was loaded and the Leafs should aspire to that.

5.) 11 Dec 2017 03:48:56

1.) 23 Apr 2017 13:56:50
Tavares will probably look for upwards of 9 mil in free agency if he goes. Shattenkirk may want longer term. Also Tavares isn't a free agent till 2018.

2.) 23 Apr 2017 14:57:56
This wouldn't even work in NHL 17. Keep dreaming. Also Tavares is NOT coming to T. O those who think he's coming are the ones who said stamkos was signing.

3.) 23 Apr 2017 15:07:47
And what happens when we have to sign our big 3 to big boy contracts?

4.) 23 Apr 2017 15:36:18
I also doubt Tavares will come to Toronto and he'll want north of $9M for sure! Also, not a UFA until next summer.

Agree with resigning Boyle, Zaitsev, Hyman and Brown but Hyman for less than $3.7M.

5.) 23 Apr 2017 17:25:39
How can we possibly take this seriously when you don't even know when Tavares will become a free agent?

6.) 23 Apr 2017 18:41:37
On which planet?

Just ridiculous. No where in these trades make sence. And no RHD we are getting which is weak for us. Are you related to Pinhead?

2.) 03 Feb 2017 03:36:18
Maple Leafs need only be patient. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Leafs are in a phenomenal place with the players they currently have, both in AHL and NHL. Cup is not going to happen this year or most probably next. The leafs don't need instant gratification player deals either, that will only be cumbersome and counter-productive latter; "been there, done that". It's been a long road for many leafs fan. Stay the course and enjoy where we're at and watch in awe with pride.

Cheers.

1.) 14 Aug 2016 15:21:17
I still would rather have Martin on the 3rd line instead of Michalek for at least the first year. It has to be clear that the rooks are to be left alone.

Marner is a gamble on the top line, but I can't say I don't like it.

Hyman is ready for duty on the 4th line; just waiting for the opening.

But there is no reason to play Rielly on his wrong side.

Rielly - Zaitsev(RH)
Gardiner - Polak(RH)
Hunwick/Marincin - Corrado/Carrick(RH)

I think by mid season, Carrick will have more to offer than the other 5/6 parings.

Similar to the grabner trade from last summer, carolina restocks their deplited prospect pool of forwards and get someone to step in and put up E. Staal's type of points for carolina in his days.

Toronto gets two elite players. at a steep cost but helps them now and later. as both are locked up.

So this was the Lineup I posted as a Projected 2016 season lineup if we were to do nothing but draft Matthews with our %20 shot at the first overall pick. (assuming we win lottery)

everyone seemed so like it

JVR - Matthews - Nylander
Komarov - Kadri - Marner
Hyman - Bozak - Soshnikov
Greening - Laich - Froese

Rielly - Hunwick
Marincin - Gardiner
Valiev - Carrick

Bernier
Spark

the commonly rumoured off seasons aquisitions are
Stamkos (UFA)
Zaitsiev (KHL)
Vasey (NCAA)

lets see how just three additions would alter the leafs

JVR - Stamkos - Marner
Komarov - Matthews - Nylander
Hyman - Kadri - Soshnikov
Greening - Laich - Froese

The addition of stamkos would put him instantly as our first line centre, regardless that were projected to draft one he's not going to step into a first like role right out of the gate, That could ever hinder his development. and that's also why marner should play with two Big Body UBER talented forwards like stamkos and JVR. To protect him. he's not going back to london. hell be in our lineup somewhere. matthews nylander and komarov could find a lot of success together if the chemistry is there; they got grit, finess and star talent in one line, komarov will protect the kids and help their development.

and our third line could end up being one of the best of the league by the end of the year with kadri hyman and sosh

Greening will play more minutes than most think

i still think Vasey won't crack the lineup next year as babs won't wnat him achored on a fourth line, could hurt his play. he'll be first in line for callup as the injuries start to ensue next year. with top 9 forwards

Rielly - Hunwick
Carrick - Gardiner
Zaitsiev - Marincin

Marincin saw time on the top pairing last year, that won't happen in a healthy lineup but he did not look out of place too often. Pairing him with Zaitsiev should help his transition to the NHL. As for Carrick, He is a talented young prospect who will find his niche in the NHL on a second pairing/ PP unit.

Bernier
Sparks.

Bozak

Bozak will be traded I believe. i'd love to see him get us solid defence prospect in return, even if we have to package up one of our lower end prospects too. all about prospect management.

1.) 24 Apr 2016 13:49:14
I posted something nearly identical a few days ago (Michalek instead of Froese, swap Carrick and Zaitsev). So I'm obviously on board hah

I've been pondering the idea of Marner vs. Nylander on the top line. I thought, like you, that Marner could be sheltered by the bigger threats of JVR and Stamkos, but it may be better off to put Nylander, who has insane playmaking ability, on the top line to feed Stamkos his one timers, with JVR going to the net and using his size. I know Marner is also able to dish like a 5 star chef, but Nylander has a year and more of pro experience and Marner will probably have some growing pains.

Plus, I challenge you to think of a lineup of Matthews and Marner and not salivate when you find out its our 2nd line.

I also had bozak being moved if we get both Stamkos and Matthews, and ideally we could put someone in place of Hunwick as a top-pairing D to play with Reilly, but that might be too much to ask if we're getting everything else!

I do however question if Vessy will sign here without the promise of NHL time. He gave up playoffs in a top 6 role with Nashville; I doubt he does that for AHL time.

Shadow

2.) 25 Apr 2016 03:05:30
Vasey turned down the playoff time because its not about that to him at this point. its about family, his two rumoured destinations are his hometown (boston) and toronto (father a scout and his brother was drafted here)
