Gardiner and kappanen
To New Jersey for Hall
Lol
Piss off the city of Edmonton some more.

Maluko

1.) 30 Jul 2016 17:59:37
Very funny. It would piss off Edm but NJ would never do that trade.

2.) 31 Jul 2016 15:06:08
How about Gardiner and Nylander for Hall

I'd do that in a second. I'd even do JVR and Gardiner for Hall.

But I do think that NJ is still after all this time, pissing themselves laughing at getting Hall for Larson; and can't even hear the phone ring.

Edmonton fans are of course, still in a catatonic state and haven't even begun to show their distaste of that deal. Better hope they don't finish DEAD LAST + 1 pt. again during their continuation of their ongoing 10 YEAR Tank fest.

Edmonton now owns the term "TANK", no one else even comes close.

And all that time, even with all the garbage Dmen, crappy offensive support, lousy coaching and extremely bad management; Hall still put in the effort and churned out the points.

If Hall ever goes to Toronto; Peter should make like a Rabbit and run!.

Hell! let's through in a draft pick above as well!

Leafs trade JVR to Minny
For Mat Dumba.

Maluko

1.) 30 Jun 2016 11:54:03
no, leaf management isn't as stupid as edmonton's.

2.) 30 Jun 2016 15:32:26
^Haha that would be worse then the edm trade Maluko seems like an edm fan

3.) 30 Jun 2016 19:03:22
Yep, I believe that is a very real possibility.

As the trade from yesterday showed, the cost for good young D-men is very high right now.

I would like to see Dumba as a Leaf and play for Babcock. and it would cost us JVR to get him. Solves a need for both teams!

4.) 30 Jun 2016 21:48:43
As the trade from yesterday showed?

The trade from yesterday showed lack of sense.

Hall was the best on the oilers the last 4 years even with the AHL demotion. It's the other lugs Chiarelli needed to trade.

Larsson is a great prospect, and maybe the best D on NJ, but he's still young and he's an average offensive talent.

The Devils are still rolling over laughing in disbelief.

That transaction will now be known as the "Chiarelli". Give up you best point producer, for an average offence stay at home Dman.

Kids don't do a Chiarelli.

And don't fret. At least he didn't do a "Bergevin" That would have really hurt.

5.) 01 Jul 2016 00:31:46
Pretty close to a "Stellick/Burke/Fletcher" too.

6.) 01 Jul 2016 01:51:23
@Chrisdafish

Don't bring them up. All that therapy we needed cost a fortune.

Leafs trade JVR to Anaheim
For defenseman Cam Fowler.

Maluko

1.) 30 Jun 2016 11:54:40
ducks add, a prospect or 2nd rounder at least

2.) 30 Jun 2016 15:34:26
Leafs - Jvr, kapanen,4th 2017

ANH - Fowler, ritchie,3rd 2017

I think that would work, replaces the 3rd leafs will loose for lou and babcock. Gets a big left winger and kapanen I don't know if will ever fit on the leafs roster

3.) 30 Jun 2016 21:52:13
Fowler's a lefty. We need a righty.

He's good, but unless he can play the right side, there's no point.

30 Jun 2016 10:20:22
Leafs trade JVR and kappanen
To Winnipeg for trouba
And instantly sign him to a new 6
Yr deal similar to Reily.

Maluko

1.) 30 Jun 2016 14:25:54
Jets don't want or need JVR. He is at best a 3rd liner on the Jets and Trouba would be a top 2 D-man on the Leafs. If JVR was so good he wouldn't be mentioned so many times in trade rumors. Leaf Nation always over-rates their players. If the Leaf players were that good their fans wouldn't be trying to trade most of them.

2.) 30 Jun 2016 14:46:36
We would rather keep JVR. he's our only proven goal scorer with good size. People put him in there potential trades because he would bring the most value back on defense.

For some reason people think he's too old for our rebuild which is just plain stupid in my opinion but JVR does have good value and you are ignorant to think he doesn't. JVR would be a top 6 forward on almost any team

3.) 30 Jun 2016 18:17:15
30 Jun 2016 14:25:54

Name a 30 goal scorer on your team and see what you value him at

4.) 30 Jun 2016 19:06:29
I'm a huge fan of JVR, but quite simply JVR and Kapanen is not enough to land Trouba.

I believe the conversation (from the Jets perspective) would start with Nylander + and all Leafs fans know that would be a tough one to consider. but I think they should consider it!

5.) 30 Jun 2016 20:20:00
Let's see Trouba:

81 GP 21 pts dropped from the previous years production when he was
65 GP 22 pts which dropped from the year previous to that when,
65 GP 29 pts.

Looks to me like he's declining. The Leafs can get better elsewhere

JVR roughly 60pts/yr when adjusted for injuries. Delivers every year.

Played on a line where the idea was to feed Kessel (who really didn't deliver and just wasted Bozak's, and JVR's efforts.

JVR Good size LW;
Trouba Avg size RD.

Being a decent RH D is why everyone wants him, not because he's the next Bobby Orr. Please! 21 pts? Wow! sign him and print your name on the cup.

Talk about overrating a player! He's 78th in pts for D's.

Tyler Myers was better and nobody outside Winnipeg even knows who he is.

He is 113th in pts/game among defencemen. 115th in shot %. 102nd in power play goals. And he averaged 22 minutes a game. Lot's of ice time.

He's right up there in shots, 43rd. Must be wasting a lot or his shot just can't beat goalies.

These are just simple stats, but if you go to the advanced stats, you'll find the same thing.

He is not that good. Maybe one day. But not right now.

As for JVR. He will get his 60 pts + whatever he gets from playing with a better center, if he's not stuck with Bozak.

6.) 01 Jul 2016 11:36:23
lol. if JVR could play an entire season, he's the #1 LW on the Jets. IF he could. It's that simple.

14 May 2016 23:37:41
To Calgary. JVR and Leivo plus 31 pick

To Tor.6th overall and some older salary dump.

Leafs use the pick on Tkachuk or one of the top 3 dman.

Maluko

1.) 15 May 2016 15:46:38
Not a chance! So you want to trade JVR ++ for a 6th pick who may or may not turn out great! JVR has tremendous value right now, way too much from the Leafs!

2.) 15 May 2016 17:48:26
it's been said that the leafs were offered more for JVR than they were for Kessel around the time they dealt him. Meaning:

1st
Kapanen = late 1st
Harrington = 2nd
Spaling = 3rd

Though both firsts were late, they we got a large return for kessel, JVR is worth more due to contract.

3.) 15 May 2016 21:54:57
The Kessel trade was a disaster and only made to release his contract (most of it) and his attitude. The Leafs essentially gave up Seguin, Hamilton for a question mark in Kapanen, a Marlie in Harrington and hopefully a nice goalie/defender in the late first round. That's it. JVR's value depends on his health, production and what other teams' needs are.

4.) 15 May 2016 22:35:44
Finally!!!!. a decent proposal. I'm not that sold on Tkachuk but this Dubois kid from the Q is the real deal. just my opinion. well thought out though.

Matthews, Marner, Reily, Nylanderaside
Anyone else remaining should be used in attempting to land a young defenseman stud who would be a top 2 or 4.
Ie in the likes of a Trouba, Dumba, Rathie etc.
Obviously without those 4 best assets in the mix, might require a little more quantity then quality. But still enough there for both teams coming out happy.

Maluko

1.) 30 Jul 2016 17:38:26
That's the Leaf problem. After those 4 players Tor doesn't have enough to offer any team to get a young top 2 d-man. In the cap world teams don't want to take on big money contracts, so 3 for 1 deals would be hard for the leafs to make due to the $ they are paying some of their players. Most teams would not want a lot of the Leaf prospects as Tor would not part with their better players not in the NHL. It would take one of their 4 untouchables to make a big deal.

2.) 31 Jul 2016 12:55:55
I think the Leafs will want to see how well their current roster of D men play before making any big trade for a top D man.

3.) 31 Jul 2016 13:59:30
Also the current situation is that the Leafs have run out of cap space
so it's cap friendly trades and waives and buyout time. Most of the Leaf D men are cap friendly

4.) 31 Jul 2016 16:59:18
Leafs do not need nor want to give up medium prospects for medium Dmen. They have time on their side and next year; money.

Trouba will be a decent Dman; but he's way over rated (mostly by Winnipeg fans) and is a 3.4 at best (21 pts - 3rd season/contract year - sheesh!). Same may go for Dumba; he didn't fail but didn't amaze either. Who on earth is Rathie? Even Larson; a favorite trade target of mine before "The Great Western Brain Fart", is all but a good, bland, d minded, d man.

But these guys are clearly not OEL, Jones, Klingberg, Hamilton, Karlsson, Murphy, etc. Not even close as of yet. They may still get to that group; but I doubt it.

Ok, Phaneuf of that.

The Leafs however, do not need to give up the farm or draft picks etc. They have lots of prospects, and they have time. Next July they have money, and no exp. draft. Lot's of time to develop and evaluate what they have; and make sound and measured changes as they go forward.

Overpaid, under-performers, are far too common on every team in the NHL. Let's take the Jackets; David Clarkson(hurting the team) - they were better off with Horton(cap relief).

The Leafs have just stripped their team down, so the prospect pool is just starting to re-develop. They need time to siphon off the crud.

Get one of these Dmen now and risk losing Carrick in the exp. draft.

Time to be patient, and not make the same mistakes again especially at only 1 year into the rebuild.

5.) 31 Jul 2016 22:15:23
Dermott and Nielson will be very good d-men in a couple of years and there is no rush

6.) 01 Aug 2016 06:42:10
From what I have seen in the reports on Dermott and Nielsen is.

Dermott is good at everything but not great either. The best part of his game is his skating. Good hockey IQ, good shot, good positioning on defense. Reports say solid NHL defenseman in a sporting roll. (meaning #2 or 4 roll)

Nielsen on the other hand has a canon of a shot and loves tthe physical side of the game. He needs to work on his skating but he is a big guy and that always takes them longer to develop that. Reports say 1st power play and bottom 4 Dman with potential to move up if skating improves.

I think Toronto will have no choice but to draft a defenseman next year with their 1st pick because they are impossible to trade for.

7.) 01 Aug 2016 12:41:40
Lou says to Shannahan "if I draft another center give me a slap"

8.) 01 Aug 2016 14:06:18
@ macreeves

You always draft the best prospect available regardless of position.

You could argue that they should have drafted Haniffan instead of Marner, but Marner may actually be the most skilled in that draft; just too small. We will find out in the next two years.

@ SBS

Agreed. But he will become a 3/4 Dman; he has some offensive talent besides the shot; he can make plays.

9.) 01 Aug 2016 16:57:20
lab16

I used to think that way about drafting the best player available but then I seen what happened to the Oilers. They drafted the best player available in their draft and they all were the same type/style of player. They got a bunch of highly skilled but soft players. I have to admit that the last two drafts, they didn't have a choice but to draft the players they did because of the drop off in talent difference between Conor/Jesse and any Dman out available.

I thought they should have taken a Murphy instead of Yakupov at the time of the draft and even though it hasn't work out for both players, it might have been enough to stop that crazy trade of Hall. I don't think there is much of a drop off between Murphy and Larrson. It might have been enough to have kept that trade from happening.

So, as the Oilers found out, you can't trade for a top pair D-man. I think if your at the draft and a gift falls into your lap, you have to take it but you can't go wrong taking a d-man. Look at what you can get in trade offers. It's easier to trade a d-man and you can get a lot more in return for him.

I can believe other teams didn't get in on the Hall deal! I think St Louis, Minn and NYI really missed out here.

10.) 02 Aug 2016 13:45:19
Drafting the best player available is a good rule of thumb. However by next draft the Leafs will be a better club and be good in some areas. The leafs will still have a good shot at drafting early and getting someone that can help the team right away.Since the Leafs have an excess of centers, you draft best available big wingers or D men

01 Jul 2016 02:41:33
Marner produced double what Laine did, while playing against non NHL teams.
Or teams with one or two on it.
Laine 4 points against France and 4 against Hungary.
Then thought it was enough to bump off Matthews for number one?
Lol.

Maluko

1.) 01 Jul 2016 14:28:04
Matthews has the complete set of skills and has size. Laine is a scorer with size.

Marner played in junior. If he can translate that game to the NHL, he will do better than just fine. He just needs to bulk up.

01 Jul 2016 02:31:42
I love when everyone talks about leaf fans overvaluing our players for trade ideas!
Especially most recently, jets fan talking down leaf prospects.
To them, I ask. ever actually look into Laine huge point production, this summer at the world's?
If so. What stands out?
. his zero points or in the minus, while benched for most of the 3rd period against the USA. Or the zero to one assist (if that) in the 2 games against Canada. How about the one assist against Russia? Dare I say more?
4 points against Hungary, and 4 against France aren't exactly a good challenge for first pick.
On the flipside. Matthews actually performed better against the best teams.
Just wanted to let that out while we're on the over hyped values.
If don't believe me. Easy to look into.

Maluko

1.) 01 Jul 2016 14:36:58
Every teams fans over rate their teams players. Except Chiarelli. Apparently A. Larson is the next coming of Bobby Orr.

Next Chiarelli trade:

McDavid for Chara

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

21 Jun 2016 06:53:01
Amazes me how every year some hype on a player gets blown out of proportion becehe had unexpected stats?
This year definitely belongs to Davorak. Some crazy posts have been so hilarious. That suddenly he's worth a trade for Matthews? Obviously a little more added. But he would be the main piece?
Really love to know if anyone even knew about him, a year ago?
My guess is no. Because like most other 3rd rounders, they don't get the hype as first round (top 5 in particular) get. Unless they play as an overaged junior on a line with one of those prized top 5. Been that way for decades. From pearsons success as lindros winger in Oshawa. Right till our own Browns stats as a wing with mcdavid. Not saying they're not good assets. But at the moment, that's all they are. So people if you want to start a half decent rumor worth reading. Maybe a Brown for Davorak is more in the realistic way. Then for a franchise center.

Maluko

1.) 21 Jun 2016 19:22:25
Dvorak was injured in his draft year which is why he fell to the 2nd round. He has put up major points in junior as well while leading the team to a memorial cup with Marner.

I'm not saying that he is worth matthews in a package because there is no way i'd trade matthews for anything at this point in the leafs rebuild.

Don't discredit Dvorak because of those crazy rumors. The guy has earned more respect than that with his accomplishments at a young age.

I do agree Brown for Dvorak would be a good starting ground because Brown has proven the ability to put points up at every level he has played at including the NHL albeit for a short stint

05 Jun 2016 15:48:47
I'm 100% certain JVR will be used in a trade to land us a top defenseman. Could be a top ten pick or another teams young dman.
At first I was thinking he would be used more for landing a goalie. However, under the circumstances of the upcoming expansion. Puts us in a better position to get one from the teams who have 2 starting goaltenders and forced to trade one, or risk losing for nothing in return.
In my opinion, that time won't come at least till Midway of the upcoming season. Maybe teams still unsure of whom they want to keep. Etc.
Thus now is the best time to fill our top 2 or 4 dmen.
Having said all that, 2 teams come to mind. Who would love to have JVR as a bigger need then defenseman.
Calgary s 6th o/ a pick would definitely land us a top d. Obviously JVR alone may not be enough. Filling in the rest wouldn't be a great deal.
Next, would be a team like Nashville. Deep on the blue line. But lacking on forwards. Especially one in JVR, modest contract and couple years left on it.

Maluko

1.) 06 Jun 2016 00:27:20
Your on to something, but I think some more time would need to pass as I can't think of anything realistic right now.

2.) 07 Jun 2016 01:19:11
JVR is a former #2 overall who delivers EVERY SINGLE YEAR, with a complete game, and on a cheap contract. He has never played with a #1 center yet and his best opposite winger was PhatDog.

He is worth much more than just a high draft pick. Veterans win cups, just take a look at who goes at the trade deadline. Look at who's in the cup! Even Phatdog!

Add a decent prospect coming back to the Leafs with the 1st OA, minimum.
_________________
Read on for fun.

You, like a ton of people on this site, over rate the draft picks. They are all a gamble at best, even the #1 a lot of years.
Half of these first round picks will fail. Even a few of the top 10.

I like to use the Alexander Daigle Scale for this 1.0 AD = complete flop; and 0.0 AD = NHL star.

For Example: (There are a lot, but these are some of the best ones)

Alexander Daigle (1st OA OTT) Trumpets were sounded for the kid who scored 137 pts for the Victoriaville Tigers in 93. He would amass 327 pts in 616 career hockey games; unfortunately after being touted as the next Gretzky, that kinda sucked. So he became the poster child for flops.
[1.0 AD] [Garth Snow Award](defn at end)

C Yakapuff (23 pts), peaked out at 33 pts but the +/- are really scary. ON AN OFFENCE ONLY TEAM NO LESS.
[0.9 AD] [Garth Snow Award]

C RNH (1st OA EDM) 56 pts best yr 2 yrs ago/ bad =/_. ON AN OFFENCE ONLY TEAM NO LESS. RNH and maybe Yakapuff may recover; but don't hold your breath). Both should be on their way out of EDM soon.
[0.6 AD]

G Al Montoya (6th OA 2004) 89 games played to date.
[0.99 AD]

Hugh Jessiman (12th OA 2003) gone to KHL.
[0.95 AD]

Thomas Hickey (4th OA 2007 LAK) AHL total 74 pts.
[0.95 AD]

Cam Barker (3rd OA 2004 CHI) 96 pts 310 games.
[0.8 AD]

Alexander Svitov ( 3rd OA 2001 TBL) 11 pts in 74 games and off to the KHL where he has also flopped.
[0.95 AD]

Rick DiPietro (1st OA 2000 NYI) 15 yr./67.5 M contract some reasonable seasons, but basically a flop. The Islanders traded away Luongo.
[0.95 AD] Because Garth Snow's an idiot giving him a contract like that.
[Garth Snow Award] No explanation necessary.

And so on and so on. These are some of the premium losers since 2000 but the % of failures gets huge as you go deeper into the drafts. Success in the NHL is rare and fleeting.

So what is your Calgary 6th OA worth: Certainly not worth a player who delivers every year. Not even close.

People have to remember some facts regarding Davorak.
He was a 3rd round pick that Arizona passed over 3 times before selecting him on their 4th trip to the podium.
Reason being, until this past year, his performance wasn't anything more.
This year he played on a line with Marner,a huge reason for the success he had. Secondly, most overaged players have good years. Due to the fact, most rising stars rarely play the full term in junior.
Arizona may want to overvalue him all they want. But any good GM is all to aware. Unfortunately majority of hockey fans need more time to catch up

Y in hell would we consider that trade? When we can sign Stamkos ( similar type of players. Only Stamkos miles ahead) and keep Nylander, all at the same time?
That's the kind of deal, both sides wouldn't do

I still don't trust Laines skating. Especially in the smaller NHL rinks. Or his overall game.
At the moment, he looks like a bonafide powerplay guy. Unfortunately, that's an average of 4 mins a game.
The how will,in the other 56 mins still remains a big reason, I have him 3rd. Behind Matthews and Pulvy

If we were to trade up for another top draft. Tkachuk is even more appealing then a dman. Simply because his familiarity with both Marner and Matthews.
Just the idea of that line is crazy to think of

How on earth has Laine passed Mathews? Oh wait. Your basing it on Laine scoring two 3 point games against those weak teams, everyone racks up on. How did Laine do against US? A very weak US team, I may add. Or how is he going to do against Canada, Russia etc? If it's anything like the game against US. He barely played the 3rd period. With a one goal lead.
Hell a player from France got a hat trick against Hungary today.
Guess he's better than Mathews and Laine? How about mcdavid, zero goals. Must mean he sucks this year?
Dude, try learning the game before making a fool of yourself
