Why is JVR always being used as trade bait on this site if he is such a great player? Wouldn't the leafs want to keep him around to mentor their young players, or is his reputation being used to get a better player in return for JVR who is not the player he once was? Trade JVR but don't expect more than a draft pick.
JVR to anyone for a 1st round pick.

JVR will be traded before his contract ends. It's just prudent business for a rebuild. The Leafs won't challenge in the playoffs for at least another 3 - 4 years and JVR will be 30-31 and have to be paid at a higher rate.
Makes sense to get something good for him now, while he's easily tradeable.
You clearly undervalue JVR, and that's fine, it's your opinion, but it's not the opinion of most fans or gm's.
On the flip side there's Chiarelli who will massively overpay for any average player.

Nylander is only worth $9.5 mil in delusional Toronto.

Andersen is over hyped by the Leaf media and some overzealous fans thus he can't live up to what they expect from him. He's an above average goalie not an elite one who can win many games on his own.
