I would love that deal as a Leaf fan. But Columbus hangs up the phone even before you say “and Mateychuk”. Matthew’s is not worth 3 integral roster players of which 2 are 21 years old and the oldest is only 25.
Even Knies for Werenski... The Leafs would have to add to that. Knies is good but not good enough for a straight trade for the Norris trophy winner.

So my question woukd be …. Why would Matthew’s waive his no trade to go to Chicago if Bedard was gone and so was Chicago’s first round pick this year. He would be going to a worse situation than he was leaving. Makes no sense at all.

Huberdeau is a playmaker which should get Auston back to himself. Huberdeau has some down years but also hasn’t been given a shooter/ scorer to play with to perform.

I would rather we hang on to Quillan and see how he develops for another year. As far as the Flames getting 2 younger forwards. That won't be a problem for them. They have a wealth coming from the NCAA after this year. Wyttenbach, Reschny and Potter. Not to mention they will be picking most likely in the top 5 at the draft.
So if they don't have a shot at Stenberg or McKenna they will be probably picking a D-man so Reilly would be a redundant return. Huberdeau would still be valuable as a veteran on a rebuilding team. Reilly is going to be a tough contract to move. He may have to be moved in a creative 3 way deal to a team will to take on Cap.

Bad trade for Leafs. Huberdud is horrible and only get worse. You would be doing a huge favour to the Flames. Only way u do that trade with no retention is if a 1st rd 2026 pick and one of the 4 2nd 2026 comes back with Huberdeau and even then I would question it.
Having a aging LW signed until 38yrs old at 10.5 is ridiculous.

I heard that Kaiden Guhle was on the table in a Montreal–Toronto trade, with Matthew
Knies going to Montreal. Toronto reportedly rejected the offer, which apparently included Guhle.
Personally, I would have tried something like this: Knies and Max Domi to Montreal, with Guhle and Josh Anderson going back to Toronto.
The cap hit would be almost even, and Toronto would get more physicality for the third line with Anderson. Guhle could shut down the opponent’s top players, and Morgan Rielly would have more freedom to play almost like a fourth forward while Guhle provides defensive coverage...

I don’t hate the trade and wasn’t being ignorant, just depleting your scoring to get a top d man doesn’t really solve anything if you can’t go out and get some other forward (Rw) to put up points, maybe instead of 2 bottom 6 forwards, include coranato or farabee.
Stop the hate “try to keep up” stay respectful to others opinions.
