Doughty brings a lot more than on ice presence. Invaluable experience and knowledge in the dressing room. Plus La needs a goalie Stolarz fits the bill and we take Kuemper who is on an expiring contract.
Reilly is serviceable in the right situation which would be playing beside one of the veteran guys like Dumoulin or ceci. Stolarz is the main piece here for LA.

Please Bob stick to nascar and let the hockey minds speak. Danford is still a year or 2 away from being ready for nhl. If u want to get younger it takes cap space and assets. Doughty is there for this season but you’ve gotten out from Reilly and Stolarz contract moving forward.
That’s $11.25m gone off the books for the next 3 seasons. Picking up Dunn and resigning him gives you a great 1st pair LD. Him and Raddysh would be a crazy tandem. Plus McCabe and Doughty. Your third pair consists of Blankenburg Stetcher and Tanev when he gets back

Leafs life, are you serious? Dunn is a beast. Look at his stats. He is definitely a first pair Dman. Plays 22+ mins a game. PP PK is almost averaging a pt per game. Has had consistent seasons of 40+ pts for the last 4 seasons. If that’s not first pairing then I don’t know what is?

I don’t see that LA deal as a good one at all. Trying to get rid of Reilly's contract or not. A Dman that’s a year or two from retirement, has slowed down a fair bit the last year or two. We all also agreed that he looked out of place at the Olympics and/or FourNations. Stolarz is better than Kuemper (who is also ready to retire), plus give them our best D prospect? No wonder why we never have good D, it’s because we never develop them, we trade them once they have any value.
What if Matthews leave and we start Rebuild/Retool and we have a bunch of mid 30 year olds close to their hockey death bed?

Not sure if it’s too much for him but you’re giving up to expendable roster players plus a prospect and a late rd pick. I can’t see him costing more than that from what I’ve been reading. You r not giving up top picks or prospects or roster players and the fill the gap left from Tanev. Still like to do the deal for Dunn and get rid of Reilly.

Which with Tanev being put on LTIR which is what I’m thinking is going to happen with what their calling an over extended shoulder injury but I still think that heavy collision also affected his head there’s another $4.5m plus what h already have available you r good to go.

I disagree you r looking at a 33yr turning 34yrs old in Parayko. A 29yr old turning 30yrs old in Dunn. His stats are way better than Parayko and he’s younger. Only difference pending FA. But still worth more than Parayko. STL stacked on right side but not left ORL fills a whole and signed only to one more season.
Only obstacle is 16 team no trade list so he could block it. But Dunn is a better Reilly in every aspect. That’s why u need to give more. Do they take him in the package? IMO.

With Tanev exiting tonight with upper body injury, I believe his days of playing hockey are done. All Jake Muzzin. Your health is more important.
That frees up another $4.5m. Plus including OEL in the package frees up another $3.5m. Plenty of cal to sign Nikishin. He plays both right and left side. Perfect replacement for Tanev or OEL.

More than I would want to give up for Nikishin. The again, I am not as high on him as some others. He had a very good first year in the NHL, but was given some sheltered minutes and can get careless with the puck. Assuming he continues to progress I see him as a #3 ceiling, likely a very good 4 who can play all situations, but not a stand out in any particular area. In the playoffs last year, his ice time dropped and his minutes got more sheltered.
Only member of their D-core who was on the ice for more goals against at EV than for. Leary of giving big money and trading high end assets foe a guy who took until 24 to get to the NHL and was given sheltered minutes and even more so when the playoffs started. The 1 pt in 17 playoff games doesn't make up for the sheltered minutes.

More of a comment on our Managemrnt and the big mistakes that were made at last years trade deadline giving away 2 1st rd picks for duds. If he wouldn’t have panicked and kept them. This summer he could have grabbed a serious RFA with an offer sheet.
Look at who’s available it’s mind blowing. Carlsson, Gauthier, Bedard, Robertson, Fantilli, Clarke, Edvinsson, Nemec. It’s crazy. I’m sure if Armstrong was our GM last year he would have seen it and not done what Trev ? did.

Hindsight is 20/20. Always easy after the fact to analyse. At the time most people were pumped we won the Laughton sweepstakes as they referred to it at the time. Even some were excited with the Carlo trade. I wasn't as I was and still am a Minten fan and hated to see him go. No-one was panicking as much at the trade deadline because they thought Marner was also not going to leave. So yeah it was a overpay, but we weren't the only teams trying to get both of those players, so who knows.
My problem with Treliving was not as much those picks and yes they have hurt us huge, but his inability to chase any real worthwhile free agents or to address the Reilly issue. It's not like Reilly suddenly went downhill, it has been a progression and last summer would have been better to have done a trade than for another year of him declining and now we have a player we almost have to give away or use as a throw in on a trade to get rid of that Contrract.

Hindsight is definitely 20/20. I liked the Carlo trade, but was never a fan of Laughton. I change my mind on both of those (although an overpay for Laughton).

It is only a mistake because of how this year has gone and hoe last year ended. If the Leafs had of beat Florida and made it to the Conference final (which they were one win away) and this year not been a mess, hardly anyone is complaining about those trades.
Also, lots talking about offer sheets. They are so rare. It's not like it was definite the Leafs would do them if they had the asset compensation. Most GM's have never offer sheeted a player.
Historically speaking, it is highly unlikely the Leafs would offer sheet anyone. That goes for all teams.
As for Rielly, yes, it would be nice to move on. He has a full NMC. He controls what happens and has said int he past he wants to stay. Unless that changes, Leafs are stuck with him because you can't send him to the minors either. It's either he accepts being moved or he is bought out.

Throwing the idea of offer sheets is a stretch. It’s so uncommon for those to happen. If you want to know where this all fell apart I’d say Tavares first year with the Leafs…. They overpaid for a guy right before the big 3 were up for deals and I think they all used JT’s contract as leverage.
Then I’ll go back to trading Kadri at 4.5 mill per for a bag of pucks. They had Matthews Tavares and Kadri up the middle. Let that sink in. The Leafs then struggled to draft well and neglected the blueline for most of Matthews and Marners and Nylander youthful years that’s where this went wrong to me and now with money hungry Rogers running the show it’s hard to see this team doing what they need to to become the team that can be competitive again but we will see.
To me the first moves are simple fire Berube and the entire coaching staff. Then move Brad to president seems more like a business guy then a hockey guy then bring in Jim Nill and Cassidy just my opinion tho

I was so incredibly ? nted after last season's deadline. My top price on either of those pieces would've been a second. I would've rathered us do nothing. But I was in the minority and there would've been people calling for his head had he stayed pat last year.
