To Tor
Rakell $5m
To Pitt
Rielly (if willing to wave) $7.5m
Groulx
2nd 2027
To Tor
Melanson RFA
3rd 2027
To Sea
Joshua $3.25m
Cap relief of $5.75m - $2.75m = $3m
Plus Domi’s $3.75m plus I’m sure Lorentz will be traded or put on waivers cause he’s not making this line up so there’s another $1.35m if traded if passed waivers it’s a $1.2m saved. Almost $8m in cap space. You don’t sign anyone let training camp go through see what happens with your bottom pairing dmen.
I know already you are all going to say he won’t wave, that’s not enough to get Rakell blah blah blah. So change the package but I see it being enough the guy is 33yrs old and has had injuries. Or replace him with Rust instead. Either way good targets contracts are done in 2yrs which is Chayka’s contention window.
Knies Matthews Rakell/Rust
McKenna Tavares Nylander
Cowan Paul Roslovic
Duhaime Blueger Sissons
Mcewen
McCabe Raddysh
OEL Tanev
Andrae Stecher
Villeneuve Danford Chadwick
1.) 24 Jul 2026 10:50:20
I’m definitely listening. The Leafs offence gets better.
But what about the Leafs defence?
I think if the Leafs pulled this move they’ll have to use that extra money on another D-man.
2.) 24 Jul 2026 18:15:41
Yes, you have that luxury to go get D-man but like I said why not wait till training camp and see what u got first. Then with that cap space u can go get one either an FA that is still unsigned or maybe swing a trade for one with that cap space.
I don’t think u need to just grab one right away. My thinking anyways.
3.) 25 Jul 2026 14:31:55
My concern is what’s plan “B” on defence?
1) If the Leafs pull this trade Rielly is gone. So now down 1x D-man
2) What is Tanev can’t get past the abdominal surgery or concussions? Now down 2x D-man
3) Definitely gonna have injuries during the long season with aging D-man.
So now down 3 or 4 D-man
4) In my opinion, Danford needs a full year in AHL to develop under Giordano and to get bigger, stronger and pro confidence. So now we’re down possibly 5 D-man
The Leafs most obvious weakness is D.
I don’t see a plan “B”.
Do you or anyone see a plan “B”?
4.) 27 Jul 2026 01:00:15
Leafs sign Logan Stanley!
22 Jul 2026 13:00:20
To Tor
Dunn $7.35m
To Seattle
Rielly $7.5m
Joshua $3.25m
2nd rd 2027
Quillan
Dunn is a UFA after this season. With Rielly they r guaranteed a LD signed for the next 4 seasons at similar price tag. Dunn will surely cost more than $7.5m on his new deal.
They get cost certainty and a similar player to replace him. Not sure if package is good enough or too much but it makes sense. Then Leafs can work on extending him b4 free agency.
1.) 22 Jul 2026 13:21:17
@Champ
Like I said above, I like ur thinking D-man. I’m not sure what the package would be either but if the Leafs pull this trade I’d be ok with it. I like it gives the Leafs options.
1) If the Leafs suck trade Dunn at the deadline.
2) If Dunn has a good season we can always talk extension.
3) Or, don’t resign Dunn and free up cap space.
This in my opinion is what the Leafs need to do go’n forward. Creating options!!!
18 Jul 2026 12:49:06
Just read that Rielly added Nashville to his approved trade list. Don’t see the fit there as they have 3 guys signed to multiple years on the left side in Josi, Skeji, and Hague. Josi does play the right side so that could be the only way this works. Just thinking of a return. Unless we take back an unwanted player I don’t see them trading for Rielly.
To Tor
Stamkos $8m
Perbix $2.75m
To Nash
Rielly $7.5m
Joshua $3.25m
No cap savings
Or
To Tor
Marchessault $5.5m
Perbix $2.75m
To Nash
Rielly $7.5m
Joshua $3.25m
2.5m cap savings
Thoughts on better ways to maneuver it.
I see the reason why he would choose music town. Non-tax state plus Nashville is super cool place. I definitely don’t want to swap Skeji for Rielly.
1.) 18 Jul 2026 12:39:28
Nashville can fit him in (Barely) without moving a roster player. We know as far as Defense prospect they won't give up Cameron Reid but I would take Alex Huang. He had a great season and fantastic playoff run with Chicoutimi. Could be that offensive d-man prospect we have looked for, for a long time.
See how he does at Harvard in a different environment.
We could then give a shot to whoever shines best at camp of Danford, Chadwick or Villeneuve and failing that. We will have some cap opened up from Reilly so we keep our eyes on the waiver wire.
2.) 18 Jul 2026 12:47:21
On a side note. Nashville for all their steps back in the past few years have somehow managed to do what hardly any teams in the NHL have been able to accomplish. If you look at Puckpedia. They literally only have 7 players on that roster with No movement or restricted trade conditions. Not sure how they managed that but good on them.
3.) 18 Jul 2026 14:17:44
Rielly for Marchessault.
Like you said though I don’t see a Rielly fit in Nashville….
4.) 18 Jul 2026 14:35:52
And I certainly don't see them giving Stamkos in a package for him. I mean, Stamkos even on a lousy year is pretty much a 30 goal guy and he and the other old timer O'Reilly gave them a pretty good bang for the dollar last year and only $12.5M between the 2 of them.
5.) 18 Jul 2026 17:20:46
Nobody to take Rielly's spot and more forwards, not sure what the gain is.
6.) 18 Jul 2026 18:09:29
U r getting rid of Joshua in the process. I'm not just proposing a D for a forward, LeafsGM. But I would be good for a Rielly Perbix swap. Gain some needed cap space and Perbix only one season left on contract. McFarland, new GM, has already started transforming the team by adding Drury, Colton and Bourque.
I’m sure he would be happy to unload the older guys. Plus reconfigure D core as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if some kind of proposition has come up for him to add Nashville to the list.
7.) 18 Jul 2026 18:43:34
Turns out the site that first reported the Reilly to Nashville speculation and names like Stamkos and Perbix according to Yahoo was "Heavy.com". So for now, based on the way Heavy has not a great track record. Let's wait until we hear from the reliable guys.
8.) 18 Jul 2026 21:33:22
All the rumour sites are based on stuff they hear from us ?
So we all know we are all full of baloney…so… there’s that ?
9.) 18 Jul 2026 22:10:09
When it comes to Rielly’s trade list it’s all based on speculation cause they haven’t come out and specifically said these are the teams everyone is assuming cause it’s Western Conference it’s those teams that have the most needs. So why not Predators. Lol.
10.) 19 Jul 2026 01:34:11
Honestly, don’t even know anymore, I’ve given up on guessing ?♂️. The one article we’re all referencing, I don’t see a fit for either team.
12 Jul 2026 17:51:14
To Tor
Pettersson ($3.6 retained) $8m
1st 2028
Willander $940k
To Van
Knies $7.75m
Rielly $7.5m
15.25m out and $9m in. $6.25m in cap space.
Would u take a chance to get Pettersson at $8m to be your 2c if it means getting rid of Rielly with no retention but losing Knies? Plus getting a 1st rd pick back for 2028 plus a RD in Willander. Even with the overage there is presently it would erase that and still leave u with $3.5m in cap to grab another LD to replace Rielly or just role with what u got.
Lines based on getting rid of Joshua as well as Lorentz for more cap flexibility. $4.6m to be exact. $8.1m cap space plus Domi’s $3.75m. That’s $11.85m.
McKenna Matthews Roslovic
Tavares Pettersson Nylander
Cowan Paul Sissons
Groulx Blueger Duhaime
Forward lines can be juggled around.
McCabe Raddysh
OEL Tanev
Andrae Willander
Stetcher
With that cap space you can go out and get
Stanley to help on the left side. And still have lots of space to work with through the season and at the deadline.
1.) 12 Jul 2026 17:05:37
A few positives to this (money and draft pick), but I can careless for Pettersson. Not worth the risk in my opinion.
2.) 12 Jul 2026 17:07:59
No way on trading Knies for that package.
Even with ridding ourselves of Rielly.
3.) 12 Jul 2026 17:42:31
Lmao isn’t this the guy that chirps everyone else’s trades? Hehe
4.) 12 Jul 2026 18:43:53
Again, if we do Cowen Reilly and our 1st I'd be in for sure and this will be my answer to any Knies trade: I'd do Cowen and a plus plus instead of Knies. Here’s why the Leafs aren’t just putting names on paper: they’re building very roster spot oriented puzzle pieces.
Knies is a specific puzzle piece, whereas with the addition of McKenna and Cowen we have similar players, one of whom will be in the top six and one that won’t be, so that’s my answer to any Knies trade.
5.) 12 Jul 2026 19:41:50
Finally @LeafsGM someone gets it. Well done sir
6.) 13 Jul 2026 00:34:05
Don't see Vancouver's powers that be biting on this. They send out $9 M, they add $15.25. But worse... they retain $3.6 of Pettersson to add to $4,766,667 of OEL's buyout this year and $1,500,000 this year retained of Tyler Myers.
That would be $9,866,667 of your cap gone to players no longer here. No matter which way you slice it. When the year-end books are done, no matter how wealthy the owners are, they hate seeing that.
7.) 13 Jul 2026 03:00:41
So what u guys r saying is Tavares transferred to the wing doesn’t compensate the loss of Knies? He had 71pts last season. Plus h still have McKenna and Cowan there as well. Willander is a 11th overall pick in 2023. So it’s getting 3 1st rd picks for Knies and Reilly. Pettersson is only 27yrs old. At $8m I’m definitely taking a chance on him to fill my 2c spot. Him and Willy on the same line plus Tavares on the wing will definitely bring back his scoring. FYI Vancouver has $17m in cap space why wouldn’t they take on the 6.25 if it meant getting Knies and Rielly which they need cause their left side is weak with just Buium(20yrs) and Pettersson(22yrs) and Oleksiak(33yrs).
Knies(23yrs) fits their rebuild perfectly. It’s already been said they are willing to retain on pettersson so why u talking about what they already have there which Myers is only one more year. If the owners were not good with it they wouldn’t have come out and said it. Secondly to get a 23yr old stud like Knies plus a viable LD which they need of course they would retain. Willander is a 21yr old RD who put up 21pts last season. He will only get better.
8.) 13 Jul 2026 10:40:06
Champ, Just have JT replace Knies and all is good eh. ?
9.) 13 Jul 2026 16:04:00
Well, the management in Vancouver has not publicly said they will retain salary on him. It is speculation by the same insiders who are fed so much false info from agents etc. to try and keep the real truth from leaking too soon. Reilly, these same insiders swear, will never go to Vancouver or Seattle, but other insiders swear Seattle is the spot he wants to go too. It all comes down to what is real or not.
If somehow, someway, he does decide Vancouver is the spot. I would rather do the Vancouver teammate of Elias Pettersson, the other Elias Pettersson defenceman, straight up for Reilly. I think he has some upside. Big hard-hitting dman that will be a 4 or 5 slot guy. Hey maybe if he is gone from Vancouver. The original Elias has a resurgence not having another Elias Pettersson there lol.
10.) 13 Jul 2026 16:23:40
Read the articles suffering not just what your buddy the janitor in the arena or your cousin’s wife uncle who just happens to be related to the Zamboni driver tells you. It’s come out that Vancouver is willing to take a low level prospect for pettersson right now so don’t tell me if leafs presented this deal they wouldn’t jump at it.
Yes Clarky Tavares can and will replace Knies on the left side for the next 2 years of the Chayka plan while Cowan and McKenna develop more into the elite wingers they can be. Wake up buddy from your afternoon naps and join the rest of civilization. So that Pettersson has upside but Willander an 11th overall pick doesn’t?
11.) 13 Jul 2026 22:08:45
Try’n to be polite here…..
Still a Hard no on Pettersson!!!!! (Even at $8m per)
Imagine Cowan and McKenna learning from Nylander and Pettersson.
Hell no!!!!!
12.) 13 Jul 2026 22:38:21
Produce the actual acticle with a name from Vancouvers People actually saying it them Champ? Let us see the actual proof you preach.
13.) 13 Jul 2026 23:02:07
No need to be polite, KingMatty. Look who you are dealing with lol.
14.) 14 Jul 2026 01:16:37
This guy rips everyone all the time and he is here thinking Petterson is our saviour. lol. Trades like that would put you in the Ferguson Jr. group of worst GM’s we ever had. Even if they did make playoffs, which could happen, they will be bent over dry with no lubrication from any team in our division. Don’t you watch playoffs?? What part of the Leafs team in playoffs jumps out at you saying, we need another soft forward that will under produce when it matters most and not only that pay him 8M and give them Knies??? Crazy.
I don’t want to move Knies but some peoples trades make sense and I see where they’re coming from. But this doesn’t fill any voids and makes us worse.
15.) 14 Jul 2026 11:39:49
@Clark17
Preach on, brother ?
No point battling these guys (Champishere2627 or Realistic_gm).
16.) 14 Jul 2026 15:00:46
You just proved my point Clarky going back to the stone ages of John Ferguson jr. ??
Suffering the best part is you asking for proof. Like I said b4 your proof when asked is you either have a relative or buddy in every city across North America that has an inside on every team in the nhl.
Please read articles coming out of Vancouver they are all talking about the lower asking price for pettersson and retaining salary for the right trade.
KINGMATTY you say no point battling but that’s all u do every time it’s not your proposal put on a pedestal. ??
17.) 15 Jul 2026 00:17:39
This I don’t want Pettersson!!!!
Get over it!!!!!!!
?♂️
18.) 15 Jul 2026 00:18:57
The thing is I do have friends and family around North America and the world. Some are very connected and I never share anything told in confidence by the very connected. The fact I do have many friends around the globe comes with age and always keeping in touch and being social.
08 Jul 2026 17:41:01
The more I look at it and the more I can see a Pitt and Tor trade.
To Tor
Karlsson $10m
To Pitt
Reilly $7.5
Joshua $3.25
No retention on either side. I know u still have your overage but that can easily be solved. U r gaining $750k which brings it down to $2m. U send Mcewen down, and in my eyes Lorentz, there’s $2m plus Domi will be LTIR $3.75m that u can actually use.
You’ve gotten rid of the 2 guys u don't want and u got Karlsson for only one year at that cap hit. With Alfredsson and Sundin now in the office and behind the bench I could see this happening. Only question is would Rielly wave to go play with Crosby Letang and Malkin?
McCabe Raddysh
OEL Karlsson
Andrae Tanev
Stetcher
1.) 08 Jul 2026 17:10:44
The only question should be, would Karlsson waive his no trade, not whether Reilly would. Pittsburgh doesn't have anyone even close to briging what Karlsson does, and they don't want to lose him and would want to keep him after this year. The only thing is what they do before the season and during on whether by trade deadline he wants to stay.
If anything, he would be the one requesting a trade at some point to try and get his cup. Are we that cup contending team? Or.... does his last team San Jose come knocking at the Deadline or before?
2.) 08 Jul 2026 18:11:29
He would wave to be with his buddy now. Alffie behind the Leafs bench and Sundin in the front office. The Swedes stick together.
3.) 08 Jul 2026 18:37:34
As a Leaf fan, I’d take that trade all day!!!
Love the money it’ll save the Leafs after this season especially w the cap go’n up ($8m-$9m) next year. ? ????
?
4.) 08 Jul 2026 19:04:26
Not saying I don't like the return. I had Karlsson packaged way before the trade deadline when it looked like both teams needed a change. I just don't see him waiving for this configuration. Whether he and Alfie and Mats are buddies or not.
He wants to win a cup and if he wants out he will want a very strong team. I think if they let him go Pittsburgh will want a younger D Prospect rather Reilly. I think they are still a contender for Reilly now but not at giving up Karlsson in return.
5.) 08 Jul 2026 20:38:05
Pittsburgh also has extra money to spear. If they retain money in a Karlsson trade they’ll have lots of teams calling.
6.) 08 Jul 2026 22:12:20
Like it, champ.
Although before I thought you had said we were set on the right side?
7.) 09 Jul 2026 00:59:34
Yes I did but this is Karlsson we r talking about and it’s only for one year. Plus Andrae is really a LD and with Tanev moved down to 3rd pairing I feel good about them together. Remember he was a +15 last season playing 3rd pairing minutes of 15 mins. With Tanev beside him that will only get better.
8.) 09 Jul 2026 01:28:40
If you could swing this. And he was open to re-signing and the team had turned the corner. If Karlsson still puts up great numbers. Why not bring him back at another 3 years at $8.5 Won't find anything comparable next summer on the UFA market. We already know we would be out on Makar who will be in the $20m range.
9.) 09 Jul 2026 01:35:41
Suffering…
I’m wondering which cup contender can take his cap hit?
50 percent is still 5 million.
That’s my quick math calculation ?
I’m guessing Carolina would want in on the discussion... They need a rh dman but still need to sign Nikishin.
10.) 09 Jul 2026 02:43:29
They don’t need to do the trade now. Pittsburgh needs to see how their season progresses znd the same with others. I see Karlsson being a trade made 2 thirds of the way in if it gets done. Then you only need to handle a third of that contract cap.
11.) 09 Jul 2026 02:54:27
@LukeFox…Karlsson's old team, the Sharks, have room and they will be a thriving team this year with the moves they made. They are already paying part of his salary anyway, might as well take the whole thing. Add him to Stenberg, Celebrini, A healthy Will Smith, a second year Misa and Dickenson and you have one potent fast tradition team.
12.) 09 Jul 2026 10:52:49
Transition team I meant.

Matthews going to resign in a few years b4 his contract is up and McDavid will sign as an FA to play with him. Then let the dynasty to begin. Leafs new management will align the team and cap space to make sure it happens. So everyone Matthews not going anywhere. All I have to say.
1.) 18 Apr 2026 21:08:31
So who else other than Matthews is going to Entice McCavid to sign with Toronto?
27 Mar 2026 20:50:33
More of a comment on our Managemrnt and the big mistakes that were made at last years trade deadline giving away 2 1st rd picks for duds. If he wouldn’t have panicked and kept them. This summer he could have grabbed a serious RFA with an offer sheet.
Look at who’s available it’s mind blowing. Carlsson, Gauthier, Bedard, Robertson, Fantilli, Clarke, Edvinsson, Nemec. It’s crazy. I’m sure if Armstrong was our GM last year he would have seen it and not done what Trev ? did.
1.) 27 Mar 2026 22:16:59
Hindsight is 20/20. Always easy after the fact to analyse. At the time most people were pumped we won the Laughton sweepstakes as they referred to it at the time. Even some were excited with the Carlo trade. I wasn't as I was and still am a Minten fan and hated to see him go. No-one was panicking as much at the trade deadline because they thought Marner was also not going to leave. So yeah it was a overpay, but we weren't the only teams trying to get both of those players, so who knows.
My problem with Treliving was not as much those picks and yes they have hurt us huge, but his inability to chase any real worthwhile free agents or to address the Reilly issue. It's not like Reilly suddenly went downhill, it has been a progression and last summer would have been better to have done a trade than for another year of him declining and now we have a player we almost have to give away or use as a throw in on a trade to get rid of that Contrract.
2.) 27 Mar 2026 22:26:28
Hindsight is definitely 20/20. I liked the Carlo trade, but was never a fan of Laughton. I change my mind on both of those (although an overpay for Laughton).
3.) 28 Mar 2026 11:47:03
It is only a mistake because of how this year has gone and hoe last year ended. If the Leafs had of beat Florida and made it to the Conference final (which they were one win away) and this year not been a mess, hardly anyone is complaining about those trades.
Also, lots talking about offer sheets. They are so rare. It's not like it was definite the Leafs would do them if they had the asset compensation. Most GM's have never offer sheeted a player.
Historically speaking, it is highly unlikely the Leafs would offer sheet anyone. That goes for all teams.
As for Rielly, yes, it would be nice to move on. He has a full NMC. He controls what happens and has said int he past he wants to stay. Unless that changes, Leafs are stuck with him because you can't send him to the minors either. It's either he accepts being moved or he is bought out.
4.) 30 Mar 2026 09:04:51
Throwing the idea of offer sheets is a stretch. It’s so uncommon for those to happen. If you want to know where this all fell apart I’d say Tavares first year with the Leafs…. They overpaid for a guy right before the big 3 were up for deals and I think they all used JT’s contract as leverage.
Then I’ll go back to trading Kadri at 4.5 mill per for a bag of pucks. They had Matthews Tavares and Kadri up the middle. Let that sink in. The Leafs then struggled to draft well and neglected the blueline for most of Matthews and Marners and Nylander youthful years that’s where this went wrong to me and now with money hungry Rogers running the show it’s hard to see this team doing what they need to to become the team that can be competitive again but we will see.
To me the first moves are simple fire Berube and the entire coaching staff. Then move Brad to president seems more like a business guy then a hockey guy then bring in Jim Nill and Cassidy just my opinion tho
5.) 30 Mar 2026 19:14:58
I was so incredibly ? nted after last season's deadline. My top price on either of those pieces would've been a second. I would've rathered us do nothing. But I was in the minority and there would've been people calling for his head had he stayed pat last year.

Maybe do your homework b4 posting. Read the same article but what u didn’t look at is Capitals cap space can’t take on Joshua’s $3.25m have only 75k and Maraschino only makes 925k.
So that’s not happening at least not for Joshua. Second, Laine will never score even 15g never mind 30g. If teams thought he could he would have been signed already. PTO best he’s going to get.
29 Jul 2026 20:38:33
Suffering, I hate to say it but thank u for backing me up. I agree with king Matty on the idea but the targets are all wrong for what u r giving up.
29 Jul 2026 20:36:20
Couldn’t be more wrong LeafsLife.
29 Jul 2026 12:18:04
It’s called having a balance. Klapka doesn’t even make opening roster. You have him on the third line ????? Whitecloud is a bum. Getting 2.75m to be a 3rd pair Simon Benoit. Get real. 12pts plays 10mins a night if lucky but he’s a third liner lol lol you r a dreamer. It’s a trade that doesn’t move the needle makes u worse offensively.
29 Jul 2026 12:25:29
I believe Chayka moved Woll cause there was no interest in Stolarz and his contract. Devils have a similar goalie in Allen with a better cap hit, not going to give him up to make a parallel move in numbers and add more cap.
FYI, AA not stepping up unless one of the 2 get hurt, which most likely will be Stolarz after his first start. That’s why he’s not tradable; made of glass.
