The wild have Jost in their top 6l, have big buy outs on the books, play defence like they're in junior (their words not mine) and are likely to lose dumba to ufa this year .. so let's help them out.

Wild - Muzzin, Joey A, 3rd rounder
Toronto - Dumba

New leafs D

Rielly brodie
Gio dumba
Sandi lilly (holl)

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 16 Oct 2022 21:19:36
If Muzzin and Minnesota say yes, great deal!

2.) 17 Oct 2022 18:42:52
I think it might be better as

Reilly-dumba
Brodie-holl
Gio-liljgren
Sandin

The bottom paring gets time for development, alternating lilgren and sandin in and out, and get gio some extra days off Herr and there on say double headers, or just 3 game in 4 night situations. And still back we have mete available should an injury happen.

3.) 17 Oct 2022 20:18:14
@Hrenklin Lili has shown that he's a better top 4 than Holl. Holl is a train wreck.

20 Mar 2022 15:46:47
This is the one move I think the leafs make.

Leafs - motte, Schenn
Canucks - Dermott, 2nd next year

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 20 Mar 2022 18:03:12
I could see that.

2.) 20 Mar 2022 21:40:59
Darn - had the right team but got the wrong return.

3.) 20 Mar 2022 23:41:10
HfC. Depending on returns for Motte and Schenn, you still may have been pretty close on value.

4.) 21 Mar 2022 03:15:26
Looks like Leafs got a 3rd from Vancouver for Dermot.
I too would have liked to see Motte coming back but with the ridiculous Giordano trade Leafs were forced to clear cap space and couldn’t take back a player.

20 Mar 2022 13:50:42
Simple move.

Claim Myers, waive holl.

We'd all be over the moon if we traded holl for myers so here's our chance to essentially do that.

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 20 Mar 2022 15:48:03
Pretty sure you get get something for Holl.
I like the 6'5 frame but from what I recall he was benched while on Philly for not knowing how to take a hit and coughing up the puck so if we were to do the deal, he at Least better be able to take a hit too especially with that big frame!

2.) 20 Mar 2022 18:23:40
How did Dubas not claim Myers on waivers. he cleared. so now go trade Duszak or whatever and pick him up. he's already in minors.

16 Mar 2022 14:10:30
So apparently NJD would like to move on from Blackwood.

They're in need of picks, depth dmen and scoring wingers.

Enter the leafs

Leafs - Blackwood,

Njd - dermott, 2nd rounder next year

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 17 Mar 2022 01:20:56
If that is true. Send them Nylander for Blackwood, McLeod+.

2.) 17 Mar 2022 03:04:15
Nylander for Blackwood and Severson.

Send them a 3rd if NJ says they want something. Call it done.

05 Mar 2022 12:57:12
Leafs -Colin miller 50% retained and jankowski.

Sabres - 2023 2nd rounder, Ian Scott

Since Dubas has decided to ride our goalie tandem to his own demise and has made it known he's got 1 trade for a dmen in him, I think we can expect something like this.

Leafs have been linked to both players previously.

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 07 Mar 2022 05:19:43
Never mind Jankowski
Just get Colin Miller in a Leaf uniform soon!

Anyone miss the old conference playoff format?

Looking at the standings there'd be some interesting playoff series if that format was still in effect such as

Leafs vs pens

Tampa vs rangers

Flames vs oilers

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 18 Mar 2022 13:19:06
I think they should adopt the top teams choose their opponents.

If florida finishes first and wants to play second place Carolina they can, or they can play 8th placed Washington or anyone in between. Next highest ranked team then gets to pick who they want to play next.

Be interesting to see who certain gms would choose. If you’re in first and a team is hot as all hell and flies into 8th, you could make someone else play them.

2.) 18 Mar 2022 13:51:26
Yea this current format doesn’t favour good teams but I guess it wouldn’t matter this year with the east being so much better than the west.

3.) 18 Mar 2022 14:10:14
Oh that’s an interesting idea Randy, that’d be interesting to watch and it gives teams more incentive to finish first.

1994 agreed - this format makes the first round even tougher but it limits possible opponents, which I find rather boring too.

We’re missing out on the Burke vs Dubas/ pens vs leafs match up because of it.

I’d like to open up the possibility of playing more teams then just getting pounded by a Florida team right off the bat.

06 Mar 2022 13:44:25
Bruins are now only 2 points behind the Leafs. The Bruins are playing a lot of non playoff teams coming up.

Who thinks the Leafs are ending this season in a wild card spot?

Seems like a 50/50 shot to me at this point.

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 06 Mar 2022 17:21:34
Don’t matter really

Florida Tampa Boston Carolina take your pick here cause 2nd 3rd or both wildcards these are the possibilities

1st round looks bad no matter even if they were playing great hockey.

2.) 06 Mar 2022 17:36:28
I'm not sure exactly how you fix the situation anymore. You can go get a RHD but you need a top 4 minute muncher not a Bogo type plug. That's much harder to acquire.

For goaltending, you're paying a lot. I said before I would try for Gibson and at this point I would give up Nylander for Gibson.

3.) 06 Mar 2022 18:17:03
I agree w LL but I think we could use the additional sand paper fwd like josh Anderson, Tom Wilson, a big pwf that’s fast and hits hard someone that is not fun to play against which we tried doing but I don’t think it’s working out.

4.) 07 Mar 2022 22:17:12
@Leafsfguy, I agree that would be nice but, forward isn't really a positional need. They're scoring enough that I really don't think it's an area where you spend to upgrade.

28 Oct 2021 00:30:17
We have to fire Dubas if we lose tonight no?

This insane.

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 28 Oct 2021 01:28:08
I don’t disagree that Dubas has made mistakes but this bad run is on the players, not him.
I believe the team is as strong or stronger than last year but has had nothing bounce their way!

2.) 28 Oct 2021 04:28:57
@RSears the players are the ones he brought in and paid. Who do you blame for this if not Dubas?

3.) 28 Oct 2021 10:49:32
How is this not Dubas’ fault, you over pay matthews and marner, and by extension nylander because he is the one that upped the value on rfa players so much that he had to pay marner that much. If he paid them appropriately matthews and marner still have Hyman and are one of the most dominant lines I. Hockey, FYI Hyman has more points than matthews marner nylander and Tavares combined. Yikes, maybe should’ve paid him 6 million. Not sure about you but pretty sure 6 is less than 40.

4.) 28 Oct 2021 12:20:27
I said Dubas is not without blame BUT I have yet to see him take one face off and folks he is not the one serving up turnovers, watching the puck while the opposition wins battles or take stupid penalties.

I haven’t once seen him lose a check, hit the goal post or make a dumb-ass play.

He has responsibility for constructing the team, which IMO is as strong or better than last year. Yes they have cap problems but that fact, in itself, does not influence the outcome of a game.

No we don’t have Hyman but we don’t have Thornton or Vesey either. Foligno was never a factor.

The players play the game!

5.) 28 Oct 2021 13:45:47
Rsears. I understand where you are coming from and I agree that compete level is on the players, but I cannot agree with some of what you wrote (and I tend to agree with a lot of what you write) .

How does cap problems not affect the outcome of a game? When Dubas gave out big money shorter term deals, he left himself no choice but to trade off some solid depth and go bargain bin shopping. Not sure how that doesn't effect the product on the ice and the probable outcome of games. I think it has a huge effect.

This comes to him not making any dumb-ass plays. Isn't how he handles the cap a dumbass play? Isn't missing out on guys like Bennett, Weegar etc dumb-ass plays? How about trading assets to get McCann so he can keep Kerfoot? That seems like a dumb-ass play. I know you mean on-ice, but since Dubas isn't on the ice, his Dumb-ass plays can only be off ice and are numerous. imo

I agree that the team does look better constructed this year and on-ice product is on the players. Those players though were chosen by the GM, so if they don't get it done, it falls on who thought it was best to put them together and thought they would succeed. No?

I think Dubas has made some good deals, but also missed on many and it is the moves he decided not to make that make me question his ability to build a team. He has made some really good value signings each year, but he is the one that put himself in the position to have to find these kind of deals because of how he managed, or should I say mismanaged the cap. He left himself a smaller window to win then it should be by giving Matthews 5 years and Marner and Nylander 6 years at 8 year term money. The window is already starting to close and we haven't even won a playoff round under his guidance.

To me, he is as responsible as any one for the product we see on the ice.

6.) 28 Oct 2021 20:33:02
A big yes to he’s responsible for the composition of the team and their cap problem. I have never denied that.

I’m simply saying that the players are responsible for on ice results and I do NOT for a minute think they have played to their abilities! This team is not a 3-4-1 record team!

The 7-1 blowout was an embarrassment that has exacerbated everything to date.

This is NOT the fault of Dubas, maybe it’s Keefe whose job it is to create systems that best utilize the skills of the team and prepare them for each game.

Yes I agree it would have been better to sign all the stars to longer contracts and most especially not to have given Marner as much. Have these contracts lost us Hyman? Yes they have!

So here we are. Poor start due to the players IMO but 74 games left to show that we are a cup contender. It’s up to the players to play to their ability and up to Dubas to cleverly find a way to get us out of cap purgatory and find another quality contributor. Let’s see if he can!

7.) 28 Oct 2021 21:36:03
You blame Keefe and the players, before that Babs and the players. Fire Keefe, bring in Torts. Same guys will look the same.

Dubas built a team of hopefuls that rely on 4 guys.

If they don't produce and no one can be added that's 100% on him.

8.) 29 Oct 2021 00:40:04
I don’t think I blamed Keefe, only said maybe. Lol.
I think it’s all those factors: players, Dubas and Keefe. Perhaps this is why it’s a team sport!

9.) 29 Oct 2021 11:44:03
I think the original post could have stopped at - We have to fire Dubas. No need for the rest. Lol.

10.) 29 Oct 2021 13:22:19
So we seem in agreement that Dubas has made a number of blunders that have: a) handcuffed us from adding quality players at the deadline and b) lost us Hyman.

Forget for a moment that the players have played a role in the poor start.

What options do we have to create cap room? I would offer that we have 4 trade options: Kerfoot, Marner, Muzzin and Rielly and might even go as far as saying in that order.

The only reason for seeing Kerfoot being replaced is his value is low. Getting a $1m player saves us $2.5 but would our team be better with this unknown player or a LW replacement in our control like Mikheyev when he returns.

Marner, despite his poor start, has the most value. LA Kings could be a trade target. What about Rasmus Kupari, Matt Roy and a 1st? Is that appealing enough to get anyone excited. A decent D-man, a young talented center with size and a great pick PLUS $6-7m savings!

Does this allow to resign Rielly this year for the max term plus a little hometown discount. Maybe the discount can be bigger if we guarantee him a coaching position when he retires. He seems to have the right mentality and values to be successful in that role.

I’d try to trade Muzzin for Mark Borowiecki.

Would all or any of these work?

26 Oct 2021 01:33:11
Leafs are about to be 2 wins 5 losses.

How many more losses do Keefe and Dubas have left?

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 26 Oct 2021 01:49:20
How many more before Mathews and Marner become healthy scratches?

Mathews may have scored but that was a Freddy special that we all watched for years. Bunting did the work, Mathews got lucky.

2.) 26 Oct 2021 02:21:20
Marner looks like he’s trying to get traded. Just out there pouting. He needs to go right after Dubas is canned.

3.) 26 Oct 2021 03:08:55
Good luck. Who wants to take on 11 million when he looks like this?

Marner can't play without Hyman. I said it many, many times and was rejected by every leafs fan going for saying it. He is probably the worst forechecker I have even seen play hockey he needs someone to do it for him.

JT+Marner does nothing. JT+Marner+Hyman, career years. Dubas pays Marner.

Marner+Mathews+Hyman, career year. Hyman walks.

Marner plays like he needs it to be 3v3 on international ice. He can't work without space and even when he has space, his shot is so bad no one cares if he shoots. Just don't let him pass.

4.) 26 Oct 2021 12:44:58
@LL. Marner struggles when games get heavy for sure, which is why we see him struggle in the playoffs. Leafs should go get Austin Wagner from LA and put him on the LW and Bunting on the other LW if they are not going to load up a line. Matthews and Tavares can play with either Marner or Nylander and a quick guy who forechecks hard should be all they need on the other side.
The system they are playing right now is part of the problem as well. When you add that to the fact the Leafs best players don't have the heart or desire to out-battle the opponent for the puck, they are struggling. Hyman stood out so much in that department because he was one of the only ones willing to do it. I think that gets overlooked sometimes.

5.) 26 Oct 2021 17:46:06
It’s not even that they are losing its the way they are losing I look at Campbell and feel bad for the guy yea he didn’t play well in Pittsburgh but the defence is leaving him out to dry how many odd man rushes were there last night atleast 5 in the first.

6.) 26 Oct 2021 18:02:57
@L1994. Yes, they way they are playing looks like a team that has completely lost confidence. I thought Campbell played pretty well in Pitt. Most of the goals bounced in off of someone. Last night, he let in a real weak one, but followed it up with some great saves. Like you said, Campbell is not the issue.

7.) 26 Oct 2021 21:12:07
Soup has been good in my opinion. Even Vezina winners let in a weak one from time to time, it's to be expected. I can't jump on him for letting one in.

@RLF yes he did. Hyman seemed to drag others with him into making an effort. Watching a guy forecheck that hard every single shift motivates those around him.

Bunting has been close to Hyman but he isn't Hyman. I have actually really liked his game so far as a Human replacement.

24 Oct 2021 00:48:03
Remember when I posed the question - "will the leafs make the playoffs".

Would anyone like to revisit that topic now? LOL

Hymanforcaptain

1.) 24 Oct 2021 01:49:59
Shane Wright that’s the new topic for the Leafs

Worst cap managed team ever

Way to go you anal ytic idiot

I don’t need those kind of stars to tell me this team sucks

Some get wrist surgery and their shot gets better (Souray)
Others get it and their shot never comes back

Sorry Matthews but your shot looks like marners now

Blah.

2.) 24 Oct 2021 02:10:57
@JDB I have to say, of everyone on this team Mathews is the most concerning. He doesn't look like a top 3 player in the world right now.

Marner needs Hyman. Send him to Edmonton and watching him produce again.

3.) 24 Oct 2021 13:23:52
I think he’s looking like a guy into his whacky tabacky

Sad to say but he looks like my kid and his friends comin home from a shot gun smokin session

It ain’t illegal but it ain’t a help either.

RLF you did it! You got mrazek waived! Best news of the day.

Now Dubas needs to let someone analyze goaltenders for him because his choices of Sparks and Mrazek have been embarrassingly bad.

We can’t miss on the next goalie we get.

Not really an upgrade more of depth at all positions play. If we want to upgrade the #4 d spot maybe we can grab Stralman from them at 50% retained.

Fine sir - even if you demoted Kane to the marlies, you can only bury just over a million bucks in the minors.

Therefore the remaining cap hit of E Kane would count against our cap . which would be about 6 million in dead cap for this year.

Plus what about next year? We can’t add 7 million to the cap or 6 if he’s demoted.

The only way to get Kane for the leafs is a 3 way deal where SJ and another team retain 50% of his contract and you can get him for 1.75 AAV.

Even then. do we really want the problems he brings?

My man.

Zacha has never scored 20 goals in the nhl and I’m pretty sure he’s never cracked 40 points either.

The whole package proposed isn’t worth the Leafs first rounder. We can better utilize that pick for a lw who’s actually cracked 40 points.

Then we just give away dermott and kerfoot?

It’s a no from me big dog, but it would be a big yes from the Njd.

Hmmm good question- I could see the defence being close depending if sandin is still out or not.

I can’t see Kefee sitting Blackwell or breaking up his checking line of mikey kampf engval

My guess is

Bunting Matthews marner
Kerfoot Tavares nylander
Mikey kampfe engvall
Blackwell spezza kase

Reilly Brodie
Muzzin lybushkin
Gio lily or sandin

The defence is tricky as we have tons of lhd.

And this 5 or 6 goals against, from teams that aren’t even playoff teams.

We’ve had suspect Defense since the rebuild began and rolling the dice on back up goalie behind this defence is turning out to be a massive blunder.

Agree with LL - the mrazek signing was incredibly poor.

Should’ve just kept Freddie or tried for rantaa for cost half of what mrazek does.
