To Tampa Bay: Sandin

To Toronto: Foote and Killorn

My thoughts are Tampa Bay needs to shed about 7M to be under the cap. Killorn is a UFA making 4.45M, so getting rid of him is a good step in that direction. He could play on the 2nd line with Tavares and Nylander and would provide some major playoff experience. Sandin and Foote are similar prospects (top 15 picks) but Foote is a RHD, which we could use and he is 6'3". Tampa Bay may need to pay to get rid of Killorn, so that is why they make this swap. We send Holl to Chicago, to retain 50% of Killorn's contract. Now all you have to do is deal Kerfoot, which I don't think is a salary dump and you are under the cap.

1.) 17 Aug 2022 20:38:54
They will have to dump more than kerfoot plus your value is a bit off Tampa is not Vegas.

2.) 18 Aug 2022 14:54:08
Kerfoot + Holl = 5.5M out
Leafs are 1.5M over Killorn and Foote are 3.1M combined, 4.6M total.
They have 900k in space. I agree, the Leafs may need to add a pick to this, but just trying to think outside the box, a trade we haven't seen before. Sandin was also 29th overall, my bad.

To Nashville: Kerfoot and a 3rd (we have no 2nd but have 2 3rds I believe)

To Toronto: Jeannot

To Seattle: Holl and a 1st

To Toronto: Larsson (50% retained)

Cap out: 5.5
Cap in: 2.8

Bunting Mathews Marner
Jeannot Tavares Nylander

Reilly Larsson
Muzzin Brodie
Gio Liljegren

I would feel much better about this top 6 and Defenceman and we would have about 1.3M in cap space left. Probably light on the Nashville deal, may need to add both 3rd round picks

1.) 04 Aug 2022 04:34:17
Really like both Jeannot and Larsson as targets for the Leafs.
They would fit beautifully.
Not sure Holl and a 1st is enough to acquire Larson though.
Holl is 30 and Kraken want youth.
It might take Sandin and a 1st but that complicates Leafs salary cap even more than it is now.
Jeannot would be a perfect fit on the Leafs but again, I don’t see Kerfoot and a 3rd round pick being sufficient return for Nashville to consider it.

2.) 04 Aug 2022 11:06:50
I feel like it would take Kerfoot and Knies, who I really wouldn't want to get rid of. Maybe Kerfoot, Robertson and a pick gets it done.

3.) 04 Aug 2022 12:47:08
Jeannot scored 24 last season. He hits (318 last season), he fights, he plays hard and PK's all for $800,000K and an RFA. Why would Nashville trade him unless it is a huge overpay?

4.) 04 Aug 2022 13:21:00
I’d love to find a way to obtain a power forward like Jeannot but don’t think that exchange gets it done.

5.) 04 Aug 2022 14:49:17
Not saying they want to trade him, I'm fully aware of what he brings ti the table. Something we desperately need! Just curious what it would take. Nylander? Would they add to that trade?

6.) 04 Aug 2022 17:47:41
Yes, the Leafs could use someone like Jeannot, but with his contract you will over pay big, it is why I have said many times to target Trenin instead. Next summer, if Jeannot has another really good year and wants $4-$5M is when you get him cheaper.

To Seattle: Kerfoot and Holl

To Toronto: Larsson

I'm not sure how much Seattle wants Holl, more of a dump. But they've been high on Kerfoot i believe, since the expansion draft. This deal would save us 1.5M and make us cap complacent. Still no money for Sandin though, unfortunately. But a much better, more physical RHD. If Dubas can then convince Muzzin to waive his NMC (which i doubt) that leaves some money for Sandin and hopefully a top 6 winger.

17 Jul 2022 18:48:02
To Toronto: Mayfield

To NYI: Kerfoot

Does anyone add in this trade? Frees up 2M in cap space. Trade Holl and now you have 4M. Should then be able to re-sign Sandin and Engvall.

1.) 17 Jul 2022 23:24:31
Why not trade Muzzin and left hand shot easier to replace.

2.) 18 Jul 2022 00:42:48
@DM, does everyone forget he has a NTC?

3.) 18 Jul 2022 02:07:37
He controls his destiny, I don't think he's interested in leaving.

4.) 18 Jul 2022 17:58:58
@L67. I don't see NYI toying with their D. The addition of Romanov helps their left side, which as weakest. They have the space and could use Kerfoot's speed as they are a kinda heavy/ slow team.
Would the Leafs be interested in just clearing the cap space and take say, Bolduc? If so, Islanders might find that more appealing imo.

5.) 18 Jul 2022 21:26:19
I honestly don't know much about him. I see he has good size, but we don't need another LHD.

6.) 19 Jul 2022 00:15:33
L67. Brodie and Muzzin are gone in 2 or less years. At that point, we will all be wondering why the Leafs don't have 1 D prospect with size.

15 Jul 2022 16:43:50
This is kinda comical, but I would do it.

To Toronto: Lyubushkin

To Buffalo: Holl and a 5th round pick.

1.) 15 Jul 2022 17:39:13
And pray tell why would Dubas do that and admit openly his error in judgement.

Or that he wasn’t talking to his agents to know what it would take to sign him!

Sorry don’t see the humour, only the anguish.

2.) 15 Jul 2022 18:40:22
You wonder if he even checked in on him. He was such a good fit with Reilly. Basically our only physical defenceman.

3.) 15 Jul 2022 19:17:37
I don't see why Buffalo does this unless that's a better pick. At the trade deadline a guy like Boosh could get you a 2nd if the bidding gets going.

4.) 15 Jul 2022 20:01:07
I also don't see Buffalo doing it, we could of signed him ourselves and shipped Holl out. Like I believe we should of. Holl is a good 7th D at best, IMO.

5.) 15 Jul 2022 20:59:51
@L67 that's probably why he didn't. Maybe he wanted Tony DeAngelo instead lol.

6.) 15 Jul 2022 22:17:02
He did fetch a pretty good haul for his rights. Funny how we can't seem to get anything for the players we let walk in free agency.

7.) 16 Jul 2022 00:12:35
He was an RFA though, different story. Also, if you ever want someone to pay you for something, call Chuck Fletcher. I don't think another GM alive give Tony a million for 2 year contract.

19 Jul 2022 17:57:30
So we're 1.5M over the cap and still haven't signed Sandin. We basically need to trade Holl for a pick/s just to be cap complacent. As it stands, our RHD group is not very strong. Losing Lyubushkin really sucked. I'm not sure Brodie is our top RHD, but what other options do we have?

I would suggest a Holl and a 2nd for Weeger. Florida needs cap space (maybe worst then us). We would have to trade Kerfoot for a pick/s to make this work, still wouldn't be able to re sign Sandin though. I'm really hoping Dubas has a trade/s lined up and is waiting for free agents to get off the board and teams will then come calling. Because currently, I'm failing to see how we got better this year.

1.) 19 Jul 2022 19:53:00
Weegar will fetch a good return for them. I'm not so sure Holl and a 2nd gets it done.

2.) 20 Jul 2022 11:22:23
If the Leafs now want Weegar, think Sandin (possibly +) or at least a 1st+ is my guess.

3.) 20 Jul 2022 22:39:11
@RLF can we still give up the equivalent of Dermott and Johnson? Lol.

4.) 21 Jul 2022 11:44:35
We could try, but now Fla says no and not Dubas.

5.) 22 Jul 2022 05:09:28
@RLF I know no one says it, but I wasn't sold on Weegar when you were. Good call.

6.) 22 Jul 2022 12:46:23
@LL. Thanks, I get the odd one right.
If the Leafs can get him, they should do what they can to move whomever to get him. If Leafs could move Kerfoot and Holl out without taking back much or any cap and then acquire Weegar for Sandin (and a plus I would think), I'd be thrilled. Especially if we could then get Kolesar or Trenin and fit it all under the cap. Goaltending would be the only major question left imo.

7.) 23 Jul 2022 04:33:36
@RLF if you were GM we could have the Toronto Maple Panthers now. Forgot about Bennet as well.

10 Jul 2022 16:17:16
Any chance the Leafs call Minnesota about Talbot? Apparently he isn't happy about the MAF signing and they are desperate for cap space. What would a trade for him look like? I personally can't get the Edmonton days Talbot out of my head, but it looks like a decent scenario for both teams, seeing as our goalie options are dwindling down by the day.

1.) 11 Jul 2022 00:05:03
I don't mind Talbot in a tandem, but man is it concerning when Can Talbot is your last hope.

26 Feb 2022 11:26:01
Edit to above trade. Cap going out of Toronto: 7.5 M

I think that is their ask, I wouldn't do it either. I don't think he is the answer for us. A solid defensive RHD is what we really need.

I would say we add a 1st and they take out Doan, might get it done. I agree with not trading Nylander.

I think Sandin sees the logjam we have on the left side and wants a guarantee of playing time. I believe he has earned it at this point. If he were a RHD or could play the right side, he'd be signed by now and Holl would be shipped out. I'd make that Peeke deal in a heartbeat, sounds like exactly what we need, especially after losing Lyubushkin, who I'm still upset about.
