To Toronto: Petry

To Detroit: Brodie

Who adds in this scenario?

The only team I really see Brodie accepting a trade to (maybe besides Calgary) is Detroit. He lives about an hour away, if I'm not mistaken.

Brodie 1 x 5M (33)
Petry 2 x 2.34M (35)

It seems a bit risky to bet on Petry for 2 more years, especially that he's 35. But is saving 2.66M this season and a fair 2.34M cap hit next year worth it? He is a bigger RHD who put up decent numbers last year.

1.) 30 Aug 2023 02:44:47
He actually lives less than an hour away. I’d rather keep him than have Petry.

2.) 30 Aug 2023 04:11:13
My bad, 55 minutes according to Google maps lol. Brodie > Petry, yes. But Petry plus a pick or prospect, to save us 2.6M this year, I'd definitely consider it.

3.) 30 Aug 2023 15:21:38
Without Brodie you need a shutdown RHD coming back. Brodie probably shouldn't be expected to do as much as he does, but he's the only one capable.

4.) 30 Aug 2023 16:12:17
It's unfortunate that he is our best defender. It's also unfortunate he makes 5M a year (not his fault) .

5.) 30 Aug 2023 22:45:02
@L67 that's the whole thing. He's a good enough top 4D, but he's the only pure defender.

6.) 31 Aug 2023 01:22:29
I think I would lean towards keepin Brodie over Petry but the cap savings would certainly go a long way towards making Leafs cap compliant.
For that reason I would say the Leafs might have to add a later round pick or ‘B’ prospect like Abruzzese or Steeves.

7.) 31 Aug 2023 14:46:04
I would lean towards the wings adding. Brodie is younger and the better defender. If that was the case, it'd certainly be tempting.

30 Aug 2023 00:12:50
The only team I see Brodie accepting a trade to is Detroit. I'm fairly certain he lives in the Lighthouse Cove area, which is probably an hour from Detroit, as opposed to 3-4 from Toronto.

To Toronto: Petry

To Detroit: Brodie

Who adds here?

Brodie 1 x 5M (33)
Petry 2 x 2.34M (35)

Petry at 35 with 2 years left is a bit scary, but is it worth it for the 2.66M savings this year and a reasonable 2 34M next year. Much bigger RHD, had decent nunber last year...

To Toronto: Saros, McDonagh, Lauzon, Evangelista

To Nashville: Nylander, Brodie, Liljegren, Samsonov

Simple math is we send out 16.8M and take on 14.5M. You could swap Tomasino and Evangelista if you'd like, basically the same cap hit. My biggest concern is the McDonagh contract. He is 34 and has 3 more years, but his playoff pedigree is worth the risk. We could also include a 3rd team for retention. I would think Chicago for Timmons and a 3rd, retain 30-50%.
Simple question, who adds in this trade? Or am I way out in space lol

Leafs_67

1.) 11 Aug 2023 16:18:02
We may have to add a pick or prospect. But I like the trade, I think it helps both teams. Rangers were also talking about buying out Trouba. That could be fun to watch.

2.) 12 Aug 2023 01:10:30
The only player worth acquiring in this trade is Sarros.

3.) 12 Aug 2023 13:08:56
Agree with WB…. Don’t want anyone of those guys except sarros.

4.) 12 Aug 2023 13:08:59
What would it take for Saros?

5.) 12 Aug 2023 15:19:19
Nylander snd samsonov.

28 Jul 2023 02:29:58
To Toronto: Tanev, Zadorov (both 50% retained from Arizona)

To Calgary: Liljegren, Brodie

To Arizona: Murray (LTIR)

Calgary saves 1.85M moving 2 UFA's.
Arizona retains 2 contracts for Murray's (LTIR) insurance pays. Toronto saves 2.2M and is cap friendly. Who adds in this trade?

Reilly Tanev
McCabe Klingberg
Gio Zadorov

Timmons

More size and better defenders (imo). Can keep Nylander for a cup run, hopefully resign him to a "fair" contract.

Leafs_67

1.) 28 Jul 2023 05:45:58
That retention is going to cost you more than ltir.

2.) 28 Jul 2023 07:36:09
One of the things people forget, Yotes can only have 3 retained contracts.
They also aren't having an issue hitting the cap floor. The LTIR for them, was to hit the floor without paying anything in real money. Not an issue now.

3.) 28 Jul 2023 14:11:35
This would be 3 contracts for them. You're right though, they are within the cap floor. Someone like Chicago or Anaheim might need the help. Murray and Timmins to Chicago to retain these 2 contracts?

4.) 28 Jul 2023 20:39:24
@Leafs67 my whole thing with retaining 2 deals, is it gives them zero flexibility to acquire assets at the TDL.

5.) 28 Jul 2023 23:36:24
In that sense, you're absolutely correct. They could probably do much more with those 2 remaining spots.

26 Jul 2023 02:31:45
Different spin on a previous idea.

To Toronto:Martinez (50% retained)

To Vegas: Brodie

To Chicago: Timmons

This would make us cap compliant and earn a better defender, imo. Vegas can try and have a team retain on their end if they'd like, to help with their cap problems. Both are UFA's Martinez (35) Brodie (33). Who says no or adds?

Leafs_67

1.) 28 Jul 2023 01:10:49
What benefit is there for Vegas in this transaction.
Did I miss something?

So that was Ugly! What changes do you think Keefe should make for game 2? I'd like to see them run 7 defenceman and play the big guys uo front more. Not against starting Woll either.

Leafs_67

1.) 19 Apr 2023 12:23:44
I don't see big changes. The lines etc wasn't the issue. The he issue was nerves. Imo

They need to relax, but play with intensity. Sounds contradictive, but when you are relaxed you play more confident and loose therefore not afraid of making mistakes so intensity can now be upped. The game flows and you don't overreact to plays. I saw very little of that.

When nervous, you are already playing intense but too rigid and start fumbling the puck and overreacting to plays and end up chasing to get back into position.
I saw a lot of the latter last night.

Samsonov was just plain bad. The D core in general were poor. Especially Rielly and Gio. I thought the big boys were pretty solid, but the bottom 6 were all bad except Lafferty. The bottom 6 got badly outplayed.

That's what I saw a anyhow.

2.) 19 Apr 2023 14:47:07
Well I think this crap performance lyes directly on Keefe.
All his screwing around with the lines, this 11 and 7 bull and playing Hellboy Kerfoot instead of Kives.
Tampa out skates them because they were off to long and DOUGHNUT eating Coach didn't skate them hard enough and he doesn't enough know who should play with each other!

I coach is a bum and needs to pack up and leave.

Same old bull crap after the game by the players, WE HAVE TO TRY HARDER, THAT IS CRAP.

I AM GLAD THE FANS BOOED THEM AND TORONTO SHOULD REFUND THEIR MONEY FOR THEIR TICKETS!

GLAD I STAYED HOME AND WATCHED THAT COMIC SHOW.

3.) 19 Apr 2023 15:37:45
@PG. I agree with you on waaay too much line experiments and not trying to build line chemistry after the TdL. I wrote a few times about my frustration with that. Knies or not, they weren't winning that game with the way Samsonov pland they way many of them played though.

I think we all know change is coming this summer if they don't get out of this round. This is the weakest Tampa team in years when looking at that D core. Leafs should be able to exploit them and didn't/ couldn't.

If the Leafs are to make no more major moves before the season starts, I'd like to see them atleast give this top 6 a try.

Bunting Mathews Nylander
Robertson Tavares Marner

The thought is that Mathews can score 50+ goals with just about anyone playing with him, this move should also elevate Nylander's game. Playing with Marner was a big reason Tavares came to Toronto, he had 47 goals in that first season playing beside him. A guy like him could benefit more from playing with Marner. Add another scorer, in Robertson, to that line. Should give you a pretty well balanced 2 scoring lines. I don't see a use for Robertson playing outside of the top 6, it's finally his time to step up to the show full time. To make all of this work, they would need to trade atleast Holl, to get under the cap. Not sure if trading him for a pick and sending Clifford and Simmonds contracts to be buried in the AHL, is enough to sign Sandin and hope he can play the right side. I still think he's a big part of this team, especially with the age on our left side. Otherwise, Kerfoot would have to be moved. They'd have enough to re sign Sandin in that case. My question is what do you think Kerfoot is worth? A 2nd?

Leafs_67

1.) 14 Sep 2022 12:52:26
I have said this a few times. If you want to tick Matthews off, put Nylander with him. Nylander has the talent, but his lack of drive and compete would just drive Matthews nuts imo. Matthews has grown into a guy that plays like he wants to win, like he wants to be great. Willy just likes to have the puck, otherwise he is disinterested. Willy reminds me so much of Kessel and we have seen how teammates got tired of Phil no matter where he has played.

19 Jul 2022 17:57:30
So we're 1.5M over the cap and still haven't signed Sandin. We basically need to trade Holl for a pick/s just to be cap complacent. As it stands, our RHD group is not very strong. Losing Lyubushkin really sucked. I'm not sure Brodie is our top RHD, but what other options do we have?

I would suggest a Holl and a 2nd for Weeger. Florida needs cap space (maybe worst then us). We would have to trade Kerfoot for a pick/s to make this work, still wouldn't be able to re sign Sandin though. I'm really hoping Dubas has a trade/s lined up and is waiting for free agents to get off the board and teams will then come calling. Because currently, I'm failing to see how we got better this year.

Leafs_67

1.) 19 Jul 2022 19:53:00
Weegar will fetch a good return for them. I'm not so sure Holl and a 2nd gets it done.

2.) 20 Jul 2022 11:22:23
If the Leafs now want Weegar, think Sandin (possibly +) or at least a 1st+ is my guess.

3.) 20 Jul 2022 22:39:11
@RLF can we still give up the equivalent of Dermott and Johnson? Lol.

4.) 21 Jul 2022 11:44:35
We could try, but now Fla says no and not Dubas.

5.) 22 Jul 2022 05:09:28
@RLF I know no one says it, but I wasn't sold on Weegar when you were. Good call.

6.) 22 Jul 2022 12:46:23
@LL. Thanks, I get the odd one right.
If the Leafs can get him, they should do what they can to move whomever to get him. If Leafs could move Kerfoot and Holl out without taking back much or any cap and then acquire Weegar for Sandin (and a plus I would think), I'd be thrilled. Especially if we could then get Kolesar or Trenin and fit it all under the cap. Goaltending would be the only major question left imo.

7.) 23 Jul 2022 04:33:36
@RLF if you were GM we could have the Toronto Maple Panthers now. Forgot about Bennet as well.

10 Jul 2022 16:17:16
Any chance the Leafs call Minnesota about Talbot? Apparently he isn't happy about the MAF signing and they are desperate for cap space. What would a trade for him look like? I personally can't get the Edmonton days Talbot out of my head, but it looks like a decent scenario for both teams, seeing as our goalie options are dwindling down by the day.

Leafs_67

1.) 11 Jul 2022 00:05:03
I don't mind Talbot in a tandem, but man is it concerning when Can Talbot is your last hope.

Edit to above trade. Cap going out of Toronto: 7.5 M

I'm looking forward to seeing Brad overhaul our defense. It is our weakness and he has built some strong defensive groups in the past. I understand it might not entirely happen this season. I also think he did very well on the Tkachuk trade. Knowing he would lose him for nothing, he got a very solid package in return.

Leafs usually run 1 defenceman on the P. P. So I don't think Timmons would be with McCabe on the 2nd unit. If Klingberg is healthy, it will be him or Reilly on the top unit.

We need to add to get that package, in my opinion.
