To Vancouver: Kral, Woll

To Toronto: Schenn

We need NHL defenceman and we are at 50 contracts. Frees up a roster spot for us and we add a defenceman with a little sandpaper and playoff experience.

Leafs_67

1.) 23 Nov 2022 22:12:06
I think people are really under valuing Schenn. He has 75+ hits in 20 games, plays a defensively sound game and makes 800k.

If Schenn agrees to move, it won't be this cheap.

2.) 24 Nov 2022 10:31:01
I like the acquisition of Schenn.

To NYR: Kerfoot

To Toronto: Reeves, Schneider, Harpur

New York is looking to get rid of Reeves, they are also a little thin at Center, in steps Kerfoot. Schneider is a solid young and physical defenceman, who is also a right hand shot. Harpur is a depth defenceman who is 6'6". Reeves, well we all know what he brings to the table. Teams might leave our stars alone if we have the Heavyweight Champ... I believe we would have to move a contract or 2 out, as we are at or near the limit, but easily do able.

1.) 23 Nov 2022 18:30:53
*Reeves to the Wild for a 5th.

2.) 23 Nov 2022 18:37:55
Can’t happen now Reeves was just traded.

3.) 24 Nov 2022 00:51:56
Schneider was a 1st round pick a couple of years ago and is already playing in Rangers top 6.
He is big, physical, skates well and is right handed.
I can not see the Rangers trading him let alone for Kerfoot.
There is also the cap hit difference between Kerfoot ($3.5) and Schneider ($925,000).
Though it is a nice thought it is highly unlikely to happen.

4.) 24 Nov 2022 16:20:37
I was hoping we drafted him instead of Amirov.

To Calgary: Engvall, Kerfoot, Robertson, Holl, 1st round pick

To Toronto: Tanev, Zadorov, Toffoli.

This move helps Calgary clear out some cap space and some players that may be under performing on their contracts (Zadorov and Toffoli). Leafs get some defensive help and some more sandpaper for a playoff type of roster. With Muzzin on LTIR we can afford the extra 3.95M.

Leafs_67

1.) 18 Nov 2022 00:44:45
Swap out Engvall for Benn, I think makes it more balanced for Calgary. We can still take on the extra cap.

2.) 18 Nov 2022 03:56:36
Calgary is definitely not letting Tanev go anywhere!

3.) 18 Nov 2022 05:56:03
If you can convince CGY to give up Tanev for our spare parts I'll agree it's a solid deal.

So Kasperi Kapanen has been a healthy scratch recently..

To Pittsburgh: Kerfoot

To Toronto: Kapanen

Kapanen has 2 years at around 3.25M, Kerfoot is UFA. I'm curious where people stand on Kapanen. I've always liked him.

Leafs_67

1.) 12 Nov 2022 11:38:49
I like kappy, I'd love to have him back, but, we're solid at rw. And kerfoot tales important faceoffs on the PK.

2.) 12 Nov 2022 12:18:33
I think he’s a L4 RW’er with Malgin ahead of him on the Leafs and he has shown he can’t play LW.

If Nylander moves to LW replacing Robertson (who needs to build lower body strength and balance since he’s always on his bum) and Malgin moves up, Kapanen might be RW L3 and Jarnkrok RW L4.

Or find a better target for Kerfoot’s $3.5m in a package with Sandin who continually hands the puck to an opposing player.

3.) 12 Nov 2022 17:50:08
Kappy has always struggled with consistency. He can look like a top 6 forward and then the next shift/ game like he could care less and is completely unnoticeable. Not sure he is a good target at his cap hit.

4.) 12 Nov 2022 19:04:15
Sorry, but the fact Pitt is benching him makes his value low.

To TOR: F - K. Kapanen (25% retained)

To PIT: F - P. Engvall

The 25% retention makes Kapanen a $2.4M player, but the Leafs are also on the hook next season for that too.

5.) 13 Nov 2022 00:05:07
I have never been a fan of Kapanen.
He brings nothing to the game except speed.
His hockey IQ is stuck in the minors.
Kerfoot’s contract expires next summer while Leafs would have to absorb another year of Kapanen’s.
Kerfoot will score more points than Kapanen this year and bring a defensively responsible game.
I do not see any upside to this trade.
Can’t imagine why Leafs would do this.

09 Nov 2022 13:45:30
Some UFA swaps.

To Toronto: Schenn and Horvat

To Vancouver: Holl, Kerfoot, Hirvonen and a 1st.

Salaries are very similar, we now have the room to take on a few hundred more k. I know Horvat is their Captain, but they've got some decisions to make on who to keep with their cap situation. Kerfoot would resign there in a heart beat, I feel.

Leafs_67

1.) 09 Nov 2022 22:46:56
I like this. Would be nice to get it done a few days before the trade deadline where Vancouver could turn around and flip holl and kerfoot elsewhere for more picks.

There is a second possibility that leafs ask for 50% on Horvat and toss in a sweetener while still keeping keefoot.

2.) 09 Nov 2022 23:11:53
Horvat is tops in the nhl in goals right now so I think it would take a lot to land a player like that I have thought about a nylander horvat swap.

3.) 09 Nov 2022 23:19:56
Schenn and Holl are basically a flip.
Horvat is 2nd in the league in goals right now.
What you are suggesting is Kerfoot (a “B” player), a “B” prospect (Hirvonen) and a 1st (that will be in the 22 - 32 range) for Horvat who is currently the Canucks #1 center.
If you want an elite player you must offer an elite player in return!
I think you would have to up the anti substantially to acquire Horvat.

4.) 10 Nov 2022 00:05:42
Robertson or Knies has to be added you think? Or more.

5.) 10 Nov 2022 01:44:28
Agree with Goat and WB49. Leafs have to add.

6.) 10 Nov 2022 05:19:25
I would go one step further and say VAN just won't trade Horvat.

Reports awhile ago said the players were upset Miller was resigned and not Horvat. With the way Miller is playing, I'm willing to bet they regret that decision right now and tying to rectify it.

7.) 10 Nov 2022 12:40:26
Fair enough. So what does it take to swap Schenn and Holl?

8.) 12 Nov 2022 00:08:27
Actually, Horvat is 2nd in NHL goal scoring behind a fella named Connor McDavid.
Love Horvat but that offer does not come close to prying him away from Vancouver.
It would take Nylander to begin to generate any interest on Canucks part!

If the Leafs are to make no more major moves before the season starts, I'd like to see them atleast give this top 6 a try.

Bunting Mathews Nylander
Robertson Tavares Marner

The thought is that Mathews can score 50+ goals with just about anyone playing with him, this move should also elevate Nylander's game. Playing with Marner was a big reason Tavares came to Toronto, he had 47 goals in that first season playing beside him. A guy like him could benefit more from playing with Marner. Add another scorer, in Robertson, to that line. Should give you a pretty well balanced 2 scoring lines. I don't see a use for Robertson playing outside of the top 6, it's finally his time to step up to the show full time. To make all of this work, they would need to trade atleast Holl, to get under the cap. Not sure if trading him for a pick and sending Clifford and Simmonds contracts to be buried in the AHL, is enough to sign Sandin and hope he can play the right side. I still think he's a big part of this team, especially with the age on our left side. Otherwise, Kerfoot would have to be moved. They'd have enough to re sign Sandin in that case. My question is what do you think Kerfoot is worth? A 2nd?

Leafs_67

1.) 14 Sep 2022 12:52:26
I have said this a few times. If you want to tick Matthews off, put Nylander with him. Nylander has the talent, but his lack of drive and compete would just drive Matthews nuts imo. Matthews has grown into a guy that plays like he wants to win, like he wants to be great. Willy just likes to have the puck, otherwise he is disinterested. Willy reminds me so much of Kessel and we have seen how teammates got tired of Phil no matter where he has played.

19 Jul 2022 17:57:30
So we're 1.5M over the cap and still haven't signed Sandin. We basically need to trade Holl for a pick/s just to be cap complacent. As it stands, our RHD group is not very strong. Losing Lyubushkin really sucked. I'm not sure Brodie is our top RHD, but what other options do we have?

I would suggest a Holl and a 2nd for Weeger. Florida needs cap space (maybe worst then us). We would have to trade Kerfoot for a pick/s to make this work, still wouldn't be able to re sign Sandin though. I'm really hoping Dubas has a trade/s lined up and is waiting for free agents to get off the board and teams will then come calling. Because currently, I'm failing to see how we got better this year.

Leafs_67

1.) 19 Jul 2022 19:53:00
Weegar will fetch a good return for them. I'm not so sure Holl and a 2nd gets it done.

2.) 20 Jul 2022 11:22:23
If the Leafs now want Weegar, think Sandin (possibly +) or at least a 1st+ is my guess.

3.) 20 Jul 2022 22:39:11
@RLF can we still give up the equivalent of Dermott and Johnson? Lol.

4.) 21 Jul 2022 11:44:35
We could try, but now Fla says no and not Dubas.

5.) 22 Jul 2022 05:09:28
@RLF I know no one says it, but I wasn't sold on Weegar when you were. Good call.

6.) 22 Jul 2022 12:46:23
@LL. Thanks, I get the odd one right.
If the Leafs can get him, they should do what they can to move whomever to get him. If Leafs could move Kerfoot and Holl out without taking back much or any cap and then acquire Weegar for Sandin (and a plus I would think), I'd be thrilled. Especially if we could then get Kolesar or Trenin and fit it all under the cap. Goaltending would be the only major question left imo.

7.) 23 Jul 2022 04:33:36
@RLF if you were GM we could have the Toronto Maple Panthers now. Forgot about Bennet as well.

10 Jul 2022 16:17:16
Any chance the Leafs call Minnesota about Talbot? Apparently he isn't happy about the MAF signing and they are desperate for cap space. What would a trade for him look like? I personally can't get the Edmonton days Talbot out of my head, but it looks like a decent scenario for both teams, seeing as our goalie options are dwindling down by the day.

Leafs_67

1.) 11 Jul 2022 00:05:03
I don't mind Talbot in a tandem, but man is it concerning when Can Talbot is your last hope.

Edit to above trade. Cap going out of Toronto: 7.5 M

Can we send them Engvall with Kerfoot. They add a pick. Helps us with our contracts situation aswell.

Brought this up a few weeks ago. I've always liked Kappi, just have to assume there's a reason he's a healthy scratch. At the very least though, he's faster and plays with more edge then Kerfoot. He's also signed for an additional year. I would make them add a pick or prospect, to help them get rid of him.

They don't want Simmonds and we don't wanna trade Knies. Not for that, atleast.

I feel that is very light on our side. Anyone could of grabbed Simmonds off waivers, twice. Holl is a bottom pairing guy on a good team.
