Never going to happen but would marner for Eichel+ make sense could have surgery and be placed on ir for season and be ready for playoffs freeing up 11 mill in cap similar to what Tampa did last year.

I don't think you would get Eichel+ for Marner. Maybe straight up but even then, they want to dump everything and start over.

I keep hearing the Eichal talk and wonder why, with a team that in my view has very little heart would anyone want yet another player like that. What this team needs is players who sacrifice for the win. Tavares and Muzzin getting knocked out is what doomed the team in the last playoffs. Eichel is another Mathews, great when things are going well but folds when times are tough. Call it selfishness or lack of grit but they won't sacrifice for the W.

There is a really intelligent trade. Trade your best player for someone who may never trade again. Mariner is their best player. He plays the most minutes on the team. He lead them in points, was second in plus/ minus only to a dman.

I Will admit, I was not a Mathews fan for awhile but he has become an absolute beast. He is a perennial rocket candidate and better defensively than any other top 5 forward in the league.
Marner can lead in an outdated stat all he wants too but +- doesn't mean a while lot.
In terms of importance to the team I put Marner at 5A with Nylander as 5B.

I must respectfully disagree, Leafslife. Last year was Mathews chance to put the team on his back and lead them which he didn't. Up 3-1 to Montreal who just made it into the playoffs? The post season is a different animal as we can all agree. We need those players who will fight, claw and scratch for every puck and aside from Johnny T, we don't have it up front. Hopefully this year is different but how many times do we say that? Dubas made this team a Euro type skilled team which is great, in Europe.

This trade happens after July 1st so Toronto can pay bonus marner,dermott for Cale Makar this opens up cap space to go after Pietrangelo. Yes in 2 years going to be in cap hell but maybe trade Pietrangelo or worst case a team offer sheet's makar and Toronto gets picks to retool until then they go from having week d to a top 3 d core in the nhl

This is a good trade offer that both teams would come out with a player that would really help them and they each lose a good player. However I don't believe that either GM would have the guts to make this trade.

Good trade. Not sure if anyone accepts this but it does seem fair overall. Most GMs just have no balls as a general rule when it comes to blockbuster deals. Case in point; Dubas signings. He was never willing to make the tough decisions and trade someone.

First off its fair value Ottawa got a 1st,2nd and 3rd for 27 year old rfa in pageau had 27 goals, 16 assists in 67 games , nylander is 24 years old has 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 pts in 68 games hard to think not worth 2 mid to late round 1sts and Pittsburgh would be lucky to get a second and 3rd for murray as teams know that if not traded will loose for nothing in expansion draft.
