Leafs trade: Nylander, Ceci, Bracco

To Habs for:

Domi, Petry.

minnow75

1.) 10 Jan 2020 07:23:41
Rather keep Nylander. Does he not. look good or something? Do doesn't look bad but he isn't exactly tearing it up right now.

2.) 10 Jan 2020 09:38:47
Little more grit and another good defenceman who is have a great year. Domi may not get as many points as Nylander, but I would rather him in the playoffs. And yes I think Nylander is playing Well.

3.) 10 Jan 2020 10:57:07
See trading to a rival is one thing but trading to a team in your own division is just to unrealistic imo I think an older vet like Petry would be great for the leafs but domi adds nothing I still don’t think he’s that great of a player.

4.) 10 Jan 2020 12:41:40
I can’t stand the balding Swedish holdout, but I would still rather have him over Domi, though I do like the idea of having a more physical guy on the team, especially since he is a good center or winger. Perry is older and doesn’t really bring much more to the team than what we have. Holl is looking good on 2RHD and Barrie is excelling under Keefe. If this was a few months ago then absolutely yes to Petry. Right now though there is no huge need for him.

As for trading with a divisional rival, not a big deal if we were going to meet Montreal in the playoffs, but that won’t happen unless they make it to the conference finals. Our first two teams we play will be Tampa and Boston. Not necessarily in that order.

Good prop Minnow I’m a big fan of Domi. He would be a more than adequate replacement for Kadri. I just wouldn’t want to have to give Nylander up for him when he is playing so well this year and Domi isn’t.

5.) 10 Jan 2020 14:40:59
Leafs would have to add a bit more though I like the balance this would bring to the Leafs.

6.) 11 Jan 2020 08:36:30
Would love to hear why the leafs add to this lol. As far as I see it Nylander is worth both of them alone as he is tearing it up right now. Domi is doing the exact opposite and petty isn't exactly Gordie Howe. I'm assuming Bracco is in there to make them take Ceci. I'm not even sure if MTL wants anything besides a 1C. If they had a 1C they would be right behind the leafs in a wild card spot right now.

04 Jan 2020 13:19:05
I really think we need to go after Kreider. He is a realistic target. He does everything the leafs need. Speed, big body who hits, and he gets points and scores.

I read that he loves the Rangers and would probably go back.

Not really sure what it would take to acquire him as a rental but maybe a package of

Bracco (born on Long Island)
2020 2nd round pick.

minnow75

1.) 04 Jan 2020 15:58:00
Don’t kid yourself. Kreider is worth a 1st+. But the idea is good. I agree with it completely. Just have to cough up a bit more is all.

Would Kreider for our system though really?

I’m starting to have doubts about is “needing” a big honking brute like Kreider. We are all about smooth skating and skill. A good power forward like Kreider kinda lacks in both.

2.) 04 Jan 2020 16:52:26
He is one of the fastest skaters in the league and he's great in front of the net. You think Rangers will get a first + for a rental? Maybe, but remember, due to cap constraints their really might not be that many teams in the market. Leafs too obviously would have to be creative.

Bracco might jump right into the lineup and teams that would want a rental would only be able to offer a late first round pick. The difference between that and a 2nd round pick is pretty small.

3.) 04 Jan 2020 17:26:49
I like the target but bracco and a 2nd may not be enough. Toronto would need to up the price to a 1st and that wouldn't be until 2021 so rangers will probably take offers from other teams that have this years 1st. upcoming ufa top 6 forwards get 1st rounders plus prospect upcoming ufa top 4 dmen get 2nd-3rd rounders plus prospect

Krieder would fit better on a team like st. louis or vegas. i'd love him on the leafs but just can't see him staying in the east.

4.) 04 Jan 2020 20:44:28
I didn’t know Kreider was so fast. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Everyone is fast these days. Even the slowest guy in the leagues is probably a better skater than Paul Coffey ever was.

I like Kreider. Absolutely. And with both Johnsson and Mikheyev hurt, it would be a good idea bringing in another LW. Our LW is so depleted right now we had to put our 3C on wing. It’s worked out well so far. So far.

I’m inclined to think Kreider will get a 1st from a playoff bound team looking to shore up scoring before heading into the playoffs. He’s too good a player not to get a 1st.

5.) 04 Jan 2020 23:28:56
If the Leafs give up a 1st for a rental it will be another mistake in a long list of trades dating back decades.

6.) 05 Jan 2020 01:01:59
A little off topic, but this posts seems to have run its course. Who is the best skater of all time? Federov gets my vote.

7.) 05 Jan 2020 13:40:42
Pure speed is pavel bure
Speed once around rink gartner
Acceleration no puck Coffey
Speed with puck McDavid
Agility with puck D. Savard

Overall best skater Federov

Skates sucked back then. put mcdavids skates on any of these guys and youll get a real taste of skating.

8.) 05 Jan 2020 15:45:05
All the equipment sucked back then. The pads were so heavy too. Useless in today’s nhl. A big part of the reason these kids can skate so fast is that the equipment has be designed to optimize every last minute detail imaginable

I forgot all about Feserov’s best buddy Bure how good a skater he was too. All those injuries really brought him down. He was definitely one of the most electrifying players in the game.

9.) 05 Jan 2020 20:36:54
Best skater?
Man I loved Paul Coffey.

Leafs trade Nylander and liljegren to Wild for Dumba.

minnow75

1.) 28 Sep 2019 20:26:40
I don't think Dumba is really as needed right now. It's a good prop but it's a major risk as he is coming off major surgery is he not? Oddly enough this actually saves salary as well.

2.) 29 Sep 2019 00:04:46
Dumba is healthy. Nylander is not needed and Barrie will be too expensive to re-sign. Dumba is the play off D we need.

3.) 29 Sep 2019 01:24:37
This proposal is very respectable.

Before the leafs give up on liljegren give ceci a chance. You may not like his 4.5 but if he and reilly click and ceci gets back to more the game he played in Jr he might surprise everyone.

If Ceci doesn't work out and Dumba shows he has fully recovered then and only then should this trade be discussed.

Im also predicting nylander 30g 50a this season. He will beat Connor for points this year and for 200g less not a bad contract.

Again a very good proposal.

4.) 29 Sep 2019 02:12:01
Nylander for Dumba straight up. Defensemen are going cheap right now. An elite forward is more valuable than an elite defenseman. Even Nylander himself seems like a real overpay compared to what defensemen have been getting traded for lately.

Dumba is a big risk right now. Assuming he has a bounce back this year, he might be worth it. And there is little doubt in my mind Minnesota does this. They need forwards so much more than defensemen. The new GM in Minny is probably wishing he had a player like Nulander in the team right now.

5.) 29 Sep 2019 15:41:43
@Minnow

I wouldn’t necessarily say Nylander is not needed. He is. And trading him without bringing in replacement would be a big hit to our offense. In fact, when I first read the trade, my first thought was that it should be expanded to include Zucker somehow. He’s a good player, and Minny was offering him up for cheap last year. He’s probably still available and would be a big help to offset the loss of Nylander.

6.) 29 Sep 2019 17:17:14
Dumba is coming off major surgery
Nylander is signed and primed and you give them liljegren as well.?
Easy pass from Toronto.

Matthews to Avs for:

Landeskog, Jost, Makar.

Before people Balk, that is two top 4 picks and 1 Top 10 pick.

All Young players, Makar is a beast, Matthews MAY always have injury problems, seems to be a little selfish and only signed a 5 year term with many thinking he will bolt after.

minnow75

1.) 09 Jul 2019 11:57:18
So the Avs trade for a top C who is much younger than McKinnon, not as good right now, and gets paid almost double. It also puts Kadri back to 3C which is why we traded him (Too good for 3C in Tor. ) . Does not make a lot of sense to me.

2.) 09 Jul 2019 15:07:05
A hard NO from the Leafs! The Leafs do not need that package.

3.) 09 Jul 2019 17:51:43
I think Colorado is looking for wingers.

26 Feb 2017 22:37:23
Leafs trad: JVR-2nd 2017

To panthers for:

Smith-Petrovic.

minnow75

1.) 27 Feb 2017 01:39:35
JVR isn't going anywhere.

2.) 27 Feb 2017 02:51:13
Why would you not want him to if your a leafs fan? He's not part of the long term goal and he just ain't that good. Yeah he can get a few points on the PP but what else is he good for?

We need Defense. Go get one.

3.) 27 Feb 2017 06:10:30
JVR is tied for 3rd for points on the leafs, and his point totals doesn't describe his physical play that he brings with most shifts. He was drafted 2nd overall for a reason and you're trading him away for spare parts, terrible trade proposal.

4.) 27 Feb 2017 11:05:31
Spare parts? Those are quality pieces coming back from Florida. Babcocks kind of players.

Embarrassing loss vs. the Sabres. We need a jolt of any kind right now.

minnow75

1.) 17 Feb 2020 23:53:29
Kind of where we needed Clifford to throw a big hit or drop the gloves even a guy like Marchment who can fight had a chance to maybe spark the team.

2.) 18 Feb 2020 10:39:38
Marchment isn't an NHL player. I have lost all faith in him ever playing in any beyond a mediocre 4th line role on a non playoff team. He and Hollowell are personal favorites of mine but it is what it is.

I don't think a big hit or fight was coming because it looked good in the third until the 3 unanswered goals 90 seconds apart. Not much time to react.

3.) 18 Feb 2020 11:05:13
There was a lot of game left not to mention at any point of the first two periods where we had nothing there could of been a spark look at the Dallas game we lost that game but right after that fight the leafs out played the sharks for the new handful of shifts.

4.) 18 Feb 2020 14:19:37
When three unanswered goals go in in the span of 90 seconds everyone just slows down. Don't expect a spark in that situation. It's just to deflating. It's done. Some teams can rally and the leafs have before but, you could see the way they played all night before that. Wasn't happening. Surprised it wasn't 8-2. Could have been if Freddy wasn't so good for the first 40 minutes.

01 Dec 2019 16:34:27
Is anybody else as high on Engvall As me. He's big, skates well, good shot. I feel if he was on a scoring line, he could produce an all around good game and get some points.

minnow75

1.) 02 Dec 2019 01:24:24
He’s doing really good actually. I know I didn’t expect him to play so good in his call up here. Making a case to trade someone like Moore or Timashov and give him a try full time next year.

2.) 02 Dec 2019 05:06:08
A couple of surprises this year including Engvall. Looks like a good player, I like Timashov game, Mikheyev been better than I expected and Dermott/ Holl have stepped it up. One thing Keefe seems to be great at is development. He knows how to get the best out of these young guys.

05 Jul 2019 01:06:01
Let's get better on the back end and a little tougher up front. Let's face it, leafs moves have made them slightly better but not exactly more of a playoff team. Ie. Boston, st Louis.

I still think we have a perfect match with Carolina, they are extremely deep on the back end and have 3 really good ready now prospects in Bean, Fox and Fleury.

Let's trade Nylander and Ceci and try and pry a Pesce (or Bean) and a good prospect like Mattheos.

If we get Bean, we will save enough to sign Mitch and grab a guy like Ferland for some toughness and scoring ability also. And still more room to improve later on in the year if necessary.

Or let's trade Marner and get more like Bean, Necas and more picks/ prospect

My choice, trade Nylander.

Hyman Tavares. Marner
Johnsson Matthews Ferland
Moore Kerfoot. Kapanen
4th line fill in

Reilly Barrie
Muzzin Pesce
Dermott Liljegren/ Sandin/ Harpur etc.

minnow75

1.) 07 Jul 2019 04:50:15
I don’t think trading Marner for Bean, Nexas, picks/ prospects appeals much. To me anyway. I don’t see how this improves the team any over keeping Marner. We want to win now. So unless the trade makes us any better, we keep Marner.

Dubas has already shown he will stand firm, even sitting the player out. Nylander was a fiasco last year. In the end he signed for virtually same offer Dubas originally offered. His comeback was a sensational flop. Now he’s one of the most alienated athletes in the city. Does Marner’s camp ant to risk that?

Unless it’s a good old fashioned hockey trade of elite athlete for elite athlete, I don’t think Leafs trade Marner. I like the thought of loading up on futures. Especially high quality ones like those you mention here. But the demand for a cup is stronger. The glories of the past are long ago. It’s been 10 years since Sundin retired. Are we turning into a different sport town now?

27 Jun 2015 20:54:51
Ok so leafs really don't do that much as far as trades go. draft is over. what happens now?

DBF-you seem to be the expert,do why don't you start us off with a suggestion, proposal,trade.anything.

Come on let's see what you've got!

Barrie and Ceci will be UFA's this summer. Even if they weren't, these trades look to be terribly lopsided in the leafs favour.

I'm not sure how old you are Leafs GM, but go to hockey DB leafs draft history. It is unbelievable how bad the draft history of the leafs have been.

All this being said, don't give up on Bracco yet. He's in an unfortunate situation where there is so much competition in the org. I think he and Dermott will have productive careers.

I think Dubas is doing a good job drafting, his negotiating skills, on the other hand, not so much.
