A trade for all;

Tor gets Shane Wright and Ryan Lindgren for Morgan Reilly and Easton Cowan

Both teams seem to get what the want.

1.) 15 Jul 2026 13:28:42
Coukd you elaborate on what each team gets in what they want?

2.) 15 Jul 2026 13:37:38
Toronto get a centre to potentially replace Tavares and a steady d man in his prime. Seattle get a young scorer and a pick moving d man to help on offence.

Also both teams get rid of distractions in Wright and Reilly.

3.) 15 Jul 2026 14:28:59
Or do both teams take on new Distractions? I have always felt Wright had unrealistic expectations on him because of the Exceptional status granted in the OHL. I really did not see the dominance you might expect of someone with that hype. When Seattle lent him to the World Junior team the year after he was drafted. He was actually very ordinary and I noticed then that his skating was not at a par with the best of the crop. Then when he went to Windsor he was ok for the end of the season and then was very, very ordinary in the playoffs. He slowly worked his way from the AHL to Seattle and it looked like he may have turned a corner 2 seasons ago but this year he took a step back as the league like of got a book on him. When pressured hard he doesn't have that foot speed to get separation from the fast forecheck.

I just think Cowan has adapted much more quicker and has a better long term upside.

Wright might have a future somewhere as a 3rd line centre or possibly 3rd line winger. As far as Lindgren he is 40 in a 28-year-old's body. He is beat up and has either been injured or played injured for the last 3 years because of his style of play. Heathiest he has been is when he laid out Bouchard with the Cheap Shot at the Worlds. I would rather see Danford on a ELC apprenticing than Lindgren. Danford is a hard hitter and brings much more foot speed as well.

Sorry I just don't see the fit. Even Wright with all his warts so to speak will still be looking for $4 to $4.5 on a bridge deal next year so with Lindgren and Wright by giving up Reilly and Cowan the Money balances out. The goal with Reilly is to gain a minimum of that $5 or all of that $7.5 at the end of any deal.

4.) 15 Jul 2026 15:39:03
No to trading Cowan. I think he's gonna be an absolute dog for us

5.) 15 Jul 2026 16:15:58
Cowan for Wright is a definite know. Rielly for Lindgren I would do. U save cap space and u get a younger guy for your third pairing or he can move up if someone gets hurt. Seattle gets certainty with Rielly as a replacement just in case Dunn hits free agency.

6.) 15 Jul 2026 17:57:36
I don't mind Shane Wright, but as Suffering mentioned, he was given exceptional status and never really progressed from then. I see him as a 2C if he really hits his stride, but most likely a 3C.

They were asking the Nucks for Buiuum or Wallinder. If that's what they want then they can job on and keep Wright.

7.) 15 Jul 2026 18:35:28
Wow they were asking for Buiim? No law says you can’t sell a product for more than it’s worth lol.

8.) 15 Jul 2026 18:42:25
@Suffering I read that last night and was stunned.

That seems like an insane ask that no one will pay. What's that in Leafs terms, Knies? Cowan+1st? No chance I would pay that price.

9.) 15 Jul 2026 19:26:07
It's almost saying "We want to get rid of him but we really don't so we will ask for the world and hey....maybe someone will surprise us."

10.)

15 Jul 2026 20:30:10
Ya I’m not sold on that kid. I think we keep Cowan, glue him to JT and see if he can play centre this year or next.

Considering this team must stay competitive or else Phil/Bos are going to get some great picks, here is a proposal.
1. Trade Matthews and Carlo to LA for Byfield, Clarke, 2026 1st, 2028 1st, and 2029 first.
2. Trade Robertson to San Jose for Dellandrea
3. Trade Nylander to Anaheim for Sennecke +
4. Trade Reilly and 2026 1st to Vancouver for 2026 1st(3rd overall) and Buium Draft Molholtra
5. Trade Stolarz and prospect to ew Jersey for Hamilton

New lines
Knies. Byfield. Sennecke
Cowan. Tavares. ?
Domi. Molholtra. Dellandrea
Lorentz. Laughton. ?

Buium. Hamilton
McCabe. Clarke
OEL/Benoit. Tanev/Danford

Will
Hildeby

Sign Kozmenko or similar for 2nd line
Sign C. Brown or similar for 4th line
Sign veteran 3rd string goalie who can clear waivers

johnstallard88

1.) 09 May 2026 13:14:00
3 firsts and Byfield and Clarke from LA?
I think that is way too much for Matthews.
Carlo is just a throw in. He has little value.
Maybe even view as a cap dump

Ducks trade..+? What’s the plus
Hard to comment on a not completed proposal

Robertson trade is sideways move.
A trade for the sake of a trade

Any deal involving Rielly is a good one

Devils trade …prospect? Who is the prospect? I looked for that name on their roster and couldn’t locate him.

2.) 09 May 2026 13:23:36
You’d have to protect or lose the 2028 pick.

3.) 09 May 2026 14:14:45
@ Golftown... No kidding on the L. A deal... Do you want to call or should I to approve that deal and you and I will even help Matthews pack lol lol.

4.) 09 May 2026 14:58:50
@LeafsGM Why would we lose the pick?

5.) 09 May 2026 15:05:19
@golftown The Prospect is that new walk-n signing they did from the University of Northern South Dakota. His name is Bear Skinner, distant cousin of Jeff Skinner.

6.) 09 May 2026 20:19:42
Because correct me if I’m wrong but the Flyers or Bruins have the choice of our top pick and I believe ours will be lower than LA's pick.

7.) 09 May 2026 21:47:45
It has to be your actual team owned pick or a pick you have already acquired before you made trade. Any picks acquired after the trade has been done are not put into play. So we do not have our own 2 picks for 2027 and 2028 no matter what.

Unless the unthinkable happened and we traded with Boston and/or Philadelphia a player or players and got our own picks back. But I ain't holding my breath on that.

Leafs trade Matthews and Carlo to Kings for Byfield, Clarke, 2026 1st, 2028 1st. 2030 2nd becomes a first if Matthews resigns.

Reasoning, LA window is now with Panarin coming in.

Leafs trade Nylander brothers and OEL to Dallas for Seguin, Robertson, prospect.

Reasoning, Dallas cannot afford contract of Robertson.

Leafs trade Stolarz to Utah for Morino, Marino to San Jose for Dellandrea.

Reasoning, Each team fills a need they have.

johnstallard88

1.) 19 Apr 2026 12:59:36
I don’t hack on posts ever but, no! Just No! We’re not building around Jason Freakn Robertson ever! Build around Knies cross our fingers on May 5th and start at the back end with Verheoff I think, maybe Carrels I’m not a pro scout but think Verheoff even tho he’s only been a Defensemen for like 5 years his upside is huge.

Go from there building around him Knies and cowboy as well as the Beast and the other one lol can’t spell his name. So off to a good start but the soft Leaf thing is done.

2.) 19 Apr 2026 13:53:58
So in the first trade what is the value you placed on Carlo? Was he one of the first round picks or was he supposed to be even for Byfield or for Clarke? I'd like to know to assess further.

In the last trade I find that one confusing. The only team I see wining in that one is San Jose who gets a very very good defenseman. Utah gets a perpetually injured Goalie, and the Leafs get a Forward who based on 82 game seasons averages 18 points a season.

How about a 3 way trade
LA gets Nylander (Tor)

Dallas gets Turcotte and Kuzmenko (LA)

Toronto gets Robertson (Dal)

A team may have to add a pick or low prospect. I could see sending the other Nylander as well. This is all predicated on players waiving no-trade clauses.

1.) 08 Jan 2026 15:30:31
I don't like the thought of losing our best right handed player.

2.) 08 Jan 2026 18:31:40
I’m struggling to understand why Dallas would agree to their return.

3.) 08 Jan 2026 19:51:28
Definitely a head scratcher. La would have to give a lot more if leafs and stars are giving up those elite players.

4.) 09 Jan 2026 13:22:07
I believe Dallas would be motivated because they have a few RFA that will demand money including Robertson. LA has two second round picks so could move one to secure trade.

5.) 09 Jan 2026 21:34:26
How about a three way lol.

6.) 10 Jan 2026 04:05:41
Turcott and Kuzmenko?
Dallas gets robbed.
Nil doesn’t consistently have one of the better teams in the league
League because he is stupid!

31 Dec 2025 12:28:57
What about a trade with LA

Nylander and Domi
For
Byfield and Kuzmenko

Does anyone add?

johnstallard88

1.) 02 Jan 2026 18:05:01
Yes La.

2.) 03 Jan 2026 00:11:57
Maybe Nylander for Byfield and Clarke
Or
Nylander for Quinton Byfield and Liam Greentree.

I appreciate the desire to move Domi as I am not a Domi fan either.

Move on from Kampf and Jarnkrok, now that bonuses are paid. Dallas needs to clear space, bring in Robertson through trade and he can play top line RW or 2nd with Tavares.

johnstallard88

1.) 02 Jul 2025 14:48:01
I know everyone is high on Robertson, but I don't think another soft, skilled, poor defensively winger is the answer.

2.) 02 Jul 2025 15:38:49
I'm not that high on Robertson, but I can see why the Leafs would target him. He can score, has size and is still pretty young while being an RFA end of contract.

18 Feb 2025 10:46:31
If NYI are serious about trading Dobson then Leafs need to be more than just in on the trade. Here is a chance to get a great young player. If we take Engvall as well do we have the trade pieces to make it happen. I think taking Engvall is worth giving up a first round pick.

johnstallard88

1.) 19 Feb 2025 13:06:21
If they're willing to lose Dobson it means they are tearing it down completely for years to come. That isn't something teams do who wish to contend in the near future. I'd say in that case they don't care about Engvall's contract.

Really like these deals. Stay competitive, get younger.

I like your overall goal of building a young enough team that when McDavid is a free agent that he sees a team that is just missing him. Another thought is the team needs to be competitive as they don’t have their own picks the next two drafts. Imagine if this year's pick was going to another team because it was unprotected.

I believe this is a great start to a deal. I would add Seguin from Dallas and Macelli to Dallas.
