Ok so we’ve all ready the articles and I’m curious is there a world we could add Schneider and Kent Johnson?
Tor: OEL Colorado first
NYR: Schneider
Tor: Joshua and a 2nd
Columbus: Kent Johnson.
1.) 12 Aug 2026 02:00:34
Way toooo much for Schneider.
29 Jul 2026 23:19:47
You guys are going to eat this up luv ya all lol.
Was. Miroshnichenko.
Tor. Joshua maybe a pick as well.
Sign Laine at 1.5 for one year. Include 1.5 in bonus: 500000 for playing 60 games, 1 million for 30 goals.
Ok, so Washington gets a big forward which I think fits in well with how they are constructed.
We get apparently OV 2.0 lol but for 1st round pick and sign the 2nd overall pick next to Matthews.
If we have to bury Liane on the fourth line, so be it but as a power play option you can’t deny bro can shoot the puck and at a minimum price can’t lose.
I’ve opened my umbrella so let the poo poo begin.
1.) 30 Jul 2026 00:01:53
Maybe do your homework b4 posting. Read the same article but what u didn’t look at is Capitals cap space can’t take on Joshua’s $3.25m have only 75k and Maraschino only makes 925k.
So that’s not happening at least not for Joshua. Second, Laine will never score even 15g never mind 30g. If teams thought he could he would have been signed already. PTO best he’s going to get.
2.) 30 Jul 2026 00:36:18
I don’t want anything to do with Laine... Nothing!!!!!!
Career -75.
How can the Leafs roll 4x lines w him in the lineup?
I’d rather give younger players like McKenna, Cowan and Knies those power play minutes.
Sorry buddy, I’m out! ?
3.) 30 Jul 2026 01:14:26
Laine is in line for a PTO because nobody wants him.
Let the Isles have him as a PP specialist. Currently as possible PP guys you have;
Mo, Raddysh, Mathews, JT McKenna, Knies, Willy and OEL (he did take a few reps last season).
I don't see where Laine fits in.
If Laine will sign a deal which can be buried then I'm fine with him trying, but I really don't have any interest.
4.) 30 Jul 2026 11:47:35
Absolutely not in Laine.
5.) 30 Jul 2026 14:19:44
The only way to approach Laine is with a PTO and to get the most out of him if he makes the team is... $1 million with no restrictions regarding movement or trades. That way if he flops he goes on waivers... If he is claimed, great. If not, he goes to Marlies and cap is hidden. Chances are he would retire instead of going to minors. Re: bonuses, the max he is allowed is $2 million, so structure it this way: $200,000 for 60 games, $200,000 for 30 goals, $1,600,000 for 0 plus-minus or anything in the plus.
For every minus 2 he loses $100,000, so if -32, no bonus. There is a bonus structure that would make him skate hard each shift.
If he doesn’t like that structure, tell him to suck eggs.
6.) 30 Jul 2026 16:09:07
Leafs are at 49 contracts. I wouldn't want to use the last one on Laine.
7.) 30 Jul 2026 20:55:50
Appreciate the feedback I noticed we’re down to one or two posts a day to comment on so wanted to dangle this fish over the fire.
8.) 30 Jul 2026 21:52:23
I'm not a Laine at any cost guy at all.... but if he performed well enough to sign at that suggested contract with no risk to us at burying him and he could perform at that low price with bonuses.
I would take him as one of those 45-50 contracts and wave goodbye to Zack (I can and I will fight but I am actually a bad fighter and a worse hockey player) MacEwen.
9.) 30 Jul 2026 23:06:46
And yes, before people jump on me and recite the NHL Collective Bargaining, I know I can't do a descalating bonus structure, only a Escalating Scale. Regarind my Plus Minus bonus structure, I just feel that is the way things should be allowed to be done.
Another thing that should be addressed in the new CBA, I believe. If you are allowed to reward for good play, you should be allowed to penalize for bad play. I regular jobs, you get or raises for doing a good job. If you do a bad job, you are out the door.
10.) 30 Jul 2026 23:08:32
Right. Even 850000 the guy can shoot. He was a 2nd overall draft pick. He’s not a small guy but yes plays small, but the guy can shoot in the Ovechkin Matthews Hull territory. Call me dumb but if he got 20 goals at $850000, all the comments above, well you know.
11.) 30 Jul 2026 23:14:57
As for the fit and the amount of contacts blah blah you can waive buyout trade for coupons to Keg you know make room cut your loses. At a league minimum or PTO I think you’re dumb not to entertain this. 3rd/4th line is obvious and completely on his back.
Healthy scratch is fine too. Send him to the AHL if he’s claimed, haha. Jokes on you, but what if the pucks go in? What if he enjoys the game again? $850000 all day long!!
12.) 31 Jul 2026 11:37:22
Lmao. I think Suffering just likes to be different. Laine is a joke. Worse than Nylander in corners and defensive side of the puck. Imagine they were on the ice at the same time? Ouch.
13.) 31 Jul 2026 14:14:51
If working a player's bonus structure to the team's benefit, which, if the player plays hard to achieve that bonus, is different, then sure I am different. Maybe GMs need to do that. He would be a much more valuable player if he was a 30 goal guy that played closer to the -8 or -10, don't you think? If he knew his biggest bonuses were going to be related to his plus-minus, he would float a lot less.
14.) 31 Jul 2026 15:54:09
The reason the number of contracts matter is because you send him down, the contract still counts. Buyout windows exist. Can't just buy Laine out whenever you want to. More importantly on the trade front. If Leafs are at max contract limit, they can't bring a player on without moving out a contract.
They will tue their hands on potential deals. In no world is taking a flyer on Laine worth all the possible issues which includes his one dimensional on ice play.
15.) 31 Jul 2026 17:04:32
I never said the number of contracts didn't matter. I do know the contract still counts. That is why I said we wave goodbye to MacEwen. Trade him off for a 6th or 7th round pick. Or if Mo is traded, put MacEwen in as a condition of the trade that the team he is being traded to takes him and his contract in the deal if they have room to bury him in their organization. I mean what's the difference of giving a PTO and a low-end contract if he looks as good as what people are reporting from his workouts.
If he is good enough to make the team then they have room to and other players they can move to make room in the organization. I mean MacEwen is a one dimensional player who won't crack the lineup anyway. My son-in-law has seen him 2 years on and off in Ottawa and said it's painful to watch him. Says he has no awareness on the ice.
16.) 31 Jul 2026 17:25:24
All speculation and hypethecical anyway.
17.) 31 Jul 2026 17:42:15
Hypothetical I meant lol. Don't type when riding a mower lol.
18.) 31 Jul 2026 19:51:34
My comment wasn't directed at you personally suffering. A couple of you scoffed at the only 1 contract left and not using it on Laine as being no big deal. And my comment was based on if things remain the same. That said, I don't want Laine anyway. Keep away from that guy as I explained.
19.) 01 Aug 2026 01:43:56
Who were the ones that scoffed at you?
20.) 01 Aug 2026 13:28:45
If scoffed is too strong a word, insert another. Point was you and Leafs GM both said you would give him our last contract. I said he isn't worth it as even trying to move another contract isn't as easy as just saying do it, which I am sure you realize.
21.) 01 Aug 2026 15:35:25
I don't believe I critized or scoffed at you in the least. I fully understand the 50 contract rule. All I had said is if he performed well on a PTO and you want to sign him. You could easily waive McEwen or someone else that doesn't have a long range fuiture with the organization. If no-one claims then you do the old trade him or someone else for the old Future Considerations. There are 185 available contracts in the league and some teams have quite a few open. Some would be possible destinations for for Reilly with MacEwen or another contract moving in the deal. Personally I would do Reilly with MacEwen and a 2nd round pick to get our 1st back.
Philly has cap, and they have 7 open Contract spaces.
Truthfully though it is kind of a moot point. The Leafs are interested in Laine but now teams are coming out of the woodwork after his workouts in Florida and it sounds like after the Islanders offered a PTO the other teams are now offering Contracts. It just comes down to which team is the best fit for him not as much the money. He is definetely not hurting in that regard.
So perhaps you misread my initial posts. I was never to give him our last contract it was to lose a contract if he made the team and still keep one open.
24 Jun 2026 17:47:13
Ok hear me out, I’m not totally sold on McKenna playing in the NHL next year as he pretty undersized also had thought today that a centre is harder to find and more expensive to acquire so I’m leaning towards Stenberg.
Here we go see if San Jose wants McKenna if so…
Leafs trade 1st overall Reilly 2027 1st (Colorado) maybe add Robertson.
SJ sends all three of their first round picks.
We select Stenberg and have another franchise centre.
If Matthews decides to walk then it won’t be such a huge blow and now bare with me what if we then trade Matthews to SJ for McKenna and a 1st maybe ++.
So essentially we get 5 first round picks including the top two this year and like I said McKenna may not play in the NHL next year so SJ may jump to get a proven Hart Trophy winner.
I know a lot of what ifs here but I’m day dreaming at work lol.
1.) 24 Jun 2026 17:19:57
OK, I heard you out. Now I’m wondering if you can tell me where you got the information that Stenberg plays centre. I keep hearing about him playing either wing, but this is the first I’ve about him being a centre, let alone being a “franchise centre”.
2.) 24 Jun 2026 17:20:34
Stenberg is a winger but many scouts after seeing him play Centreman and wing at the worlds think he could be a very good Centre. I think McKenna will play in NHL this year though. No matter here or anywhere else the 1st line forecast I disagree with.
I would play him with Tavares until he gets more defensively disciplined. To put him with Knies and Matthews would be unfair to Mattews actually. He would constantly be playing top slot to get a jump to cover the rush going back up ice.
3.) 24 Jun 2026 17:40:47
Funny I posted that before HLF post was even up.
4.) 24 Jun 2026 18:59:08
Happens all the time. There is often a delay from when we post, to when it actually shows up.
5.) 24 Jun 2026 22:23:02
I think every single NHL forward would tell you they played centre at some point. Also as Suffering mentioned he did recently, also have heard and read scouts comparing him to Kopitar as his 200 foot complete game dictates. I played C and RW, sorry, just found it to be a dumb remark, like an NHL player has to be typecasted.
22 Jun 2026 23:40:39
This will probably never happen but…
Dal: Ottinger
Tor: Stolarz and Col 1st
Dallas is in cap trouble as we all know. 3.5 for Stolarz could help with that.
1.) 22 Jun 2026 23:17:31
Bro, why in the world would Dallas give up Oettinger, one of the top young goalies in the league, for an old goalie who gets hurt and a late first in 2 years? lmao
2.) 23 Jun 2026 00:22:31
Can’t see Dallas doing that.
3.) 23 Jun 2026 01:10:22
Coming from two guys who keep trying to trade Knies.
4.) 23 Jun 2026 01:14:23
To answer your question with could do with a tandem and save over 7 million dollars.
5.) 23 Jun 2026 01:24:20
Same trade for Adin Hill.
21 Jun 2026 15:14:09
I have no intention on trading Knies but…lol
How about Byram sign and trade Tuch
For Knies and Col 1st.
1.) 21 Jun 2026 21:41:53
So 7 million out and over 20 million in once Byram signs his next deal.
2.) 21 Jun 2026 21:55:29
FYI with Reilly gone Andrae is left-handed left-shot D. Why do u need Byram? You got McCabe, OEL and Andrae now. If anything, I would go and sign Stanley and shift Andrae to the right side.
McCabe Raddysh
OEL Carlo
Stanley Tanev
Andrae
3.) 21 Jun 2026 21:48:50
Good then stop posting dumb trades. Giving up Knies and a 1st rd pick for byram and sin and trade for Tuch. Have u lost your mind. Byram is not that good of a dman. They have him as a 3rd pair guy behind power and dahlin on the left side.
They extended Samuelson as well. They want him gone to keep Tuch. Whoever signs this guy to a huge deal when he becomes a UFA is going to regret it
4.) 22 Jun 2026 00:13:59
I basically posted this so people would stop with the Knies bs. But I think you undervalue Byrum. Ya he’s a third pairing behind two really good players. OEL isn’t getting any younger. Tanev is one mouse fart to the head away from having to retire, and Andrae is a young wildcard.
We should get ahead of the curve if we can, but this post isn’t the way to go obviously, and there’s no way I’d pay Tuch 10 million bucks.
5.) 22 Jun 2026 02:29:14
Now I'm hearing you. Do I think he’s a bad D? No. But I read an article saying Knies straight up for Byram is ridiculous. Need to get rid of Reilly b4 making any move for Byram.
Open up a spot for him on the left side. Issue is you’re getting him for 1 yr then he’s going to want to get paid and I don't think I’m giving him 8 figures and that’s what he will demand.
6.) 22 Jun 2026 03:21:44
Of course Knies straight up for Byram is not an even deal. But if a way of getting Byram was doable, go for it. He was good enough to play second pairing on his off side all year and was second in ice time in the playoffs on d behind Dahlin.
The reason Power played left side and Byram played right side is because he is more versatile than Power. He is also more physical. Power for his big size is not that physical at clearing the front of the net.

17 Jul 2026 22:04:16
Ok, so guys help me out here if you buy out a player their contract becomes null and void including NTC, right? I’m just asking as it’s a slow week lol but here’s my thing: if we wanted Ferraro and or Bunting, if we kept those players in limbo and lost one of them to Winnipeg, yes I botched the spelling. Why didn’t we buy out Reilly? I really love Bunting but I don’t see room for him honestly but the latter went to Winnipeg and I don’t get how the Leafs didn’t say hey man we have your contract ready give us time to move Reilly and if we can’t a weak before camp we will buy him out and you can sign.
1.) 17 Jul 2026 22:41:37
The problem is his cap hit doesn't 100 percent disappear. 1/3 of it does and the other 2/3 gets spread out over twice the years of the remaining 4 years (8 years). So the next 4 years we would lose $2 of our cap paying him and then the following 4 years $4 millions.
We still are allowed to go over our $104 million cap by 10% but it has to be down to $104 by season opening day. So yes we could still sign someone and have 77 days to work with if we did sign another player.
Did that help?
2.) 17 Jul 2026 22:51:56
Actually the buyout for him would be $3.5 million on dead cap for first 4 years and then $2 for 4 years. As per Puckpedia
3.) 17 Jul 2026 23:28:45
Yes, just check Puckpedia. Click on Rielly and the buyout options are at the top.
When you buy a player out, some AAV remains on the team's record for double the remaining term. Rielly has 4 years' term remaining, so if Leafs buy him out, they will be paying some sort of penalty for 8 years.
Buyout amounts are different depending on a player's age, plus how the contract was set up. Rielly's contract was front loaded with the signing bonuses he received, so the buyout is higher.
Frank Vatrano's contract is back loaded, so the buyout will save Anaheim much more AAV.
As Suffering already said
Rielly $7.5M AAV (actually getting paid $6M actual dollars)
$3.5M against the cap (just over half savings)
Vatrano $4.571M AAV (actually getting paid $6M actual dollars).
$571 against the cap (almost 90% savings).
Sorry if it sounds confusing, I'm not the best at explaining things on paper ???.
4.) 17 Jul 2026 23:55:25
@Tags97 KingMatty would have been confused on this yesterday after his soccer outing the day before lol. Hope a little hair of the dog helped later in the day King.
5.) 18 Jul 2026 00:59:12
I’m back boys and thanks for the love ?.
In my opinion, buyouts should only be used on the last year of a contract.
As a Leaf fan, buying out Rielly is not an option.
When it comes to Rielly I’m struggling?
1) Part of me wants him to stay and he has the best year of his career, plays 1000 games and Leaf Nation goes wild.
2) The other part of me says take anything you can get and run.
At the end of the day it’s Rielly’s decision and I’ve got his back.
?♂️
6.) 18 Jul 2026 01:29:07
Rielly is a Class individual and I wish him the best whether he plays with the Leafs or elsewhere.
Anyways, I agree KINGmatty, buyouts mostly with one year left. Although in Vatrano's case, I would have done it with 2 years left (unfortunately Verbeek didn't prepare himself for a potential OS, at least not one for $18M ridiculous)
Philly really screwed Anaheim.
Let's see what happens with Gauthier.
7.) 18 Jul 2026 01:38:03
Hockey is upside down right now. I’d hate to be a GM and reporting to the owner.
8.) 18 Jul 2026 01:41:04
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...
I would have never matched that offer sheet... Never!
9.) 18 Jul 2026 14:00:20
You would have never matched the offer sheet King because there would not be enough money to do the $18M after you went through $8M of it on the Soccer Binge lol.
10.) 21 Jul 2026 14:38:45
Just seeing this now, too funny!!! ???
03 Mar 2026 23:33:14
So what do the Leafs do well? Very little. The media surrounding this team is why we don’t win cups. We can’t recruit top end players cause nobody wants to be here under the microscope. What we can do is fire Craig. As much as I love him, the stars on this team were way better with a run and gun style. Freedom to be creative worked.
If you can get a first for McMann or OEL then perhaps makes sense, but you still have to replace whatever you give up and it’ll cost more than keeping them. Beyond that I don’t have an issue with this team.
Nobody is up the Panthers a** about missing the playoffs because of the injuries. Well the Leafs have had the same luck. How many more games would we have won with Tanev, Nylander, both goalies not missing time? I think they need a new coach and GM, play the kids from here on in and sign a top six guy like Tuck and stop trying to find a guy to play with Morgan. Either get rid of him or sign a UFA top tier defender and move him down the line up.
To sum it up this team is fine, just players in the wrong spot, bad luck and missing a piece or two.
1.) 03 Mar 2026 23:57:43
@Lgm Although I agree Berube probably needs to go and I still liked the hiring, who can "Run N' Gun" now? They are old and slow.
2.) 04 Mar 2026 12:41:39
I pretty much agree with what you are saying as I wrote much the same including the Panthers part a little while ago. The part I am not with you on is the run and gun like LL said. It has not worked when the playoffs have rolled around. Leafs aren't the only ones who have played that style without playoff success.
Management has to make some serious decisions about the star makeup of this team. Rielly obviously needs a change of scenery and they have to decide whether Matthews and Nylander are a pair they think they can win with or does one of them (or both) need to go.
3.) 04 Mar 2026 12:50:29
@RLF, Move in from them both at this point and start rebuilding. Problem is Brad Treliving is the most boring GM in the league and has not made a significant move since he has been here. Doesn’t have the cohonas to pull it off.
4.) 04 Mar 2026 13:16:43
Clarky. Maybe he doesn't, or maybe there isn't anything on the table for anyone of significance that he wouldn't get ripped for.
I mean, if you were the GM of another team and saw how badly the stars on this team collapsed in game 5 and 7 last season, would you offer the moon for these guys?
You may say, just get what you can and start over, but if Tre does that, he will get roasted in the media and by the fans and be blamed for setting the organization back for years and years to come.
30 Oct 2024 22:30:10
So we traded Lilly for 2 6th rounders and a 5th plus 3 million in space???? I would've have taken anyone's post over this lol.
05 Jun 2024 22:47:37
Geez guys I don't know if I were to trade Marner I it's a #1 goalie or a #1 d man and a 1st 2024 for me.
Honestly if possible sign Marner for 1-2 years 9.5 million and mortified no trade and say hey look that's 3 years to show up and get it done or we are done and if you don't perform at any time the leafs can say that's it where's your list
Leafs can't afford to lose him for nothing so either take this pay cut or waive your clause for a year and move on to Calgary or Nashville for instance Leafs gain assets makes it easier for Marner to walk away from whoever acquires him for UFA
1.) 06 Jun 2024 09:07:32
Who's is giving a #1D for Mitchy? This has always been the issue. #1D are some of the most difficult things to find in all of hockey, and you want them to hand one over for a sub 100pts winger making too much, as a rental?
2.) 06 Jun 2024 11:23:51
Why can’t we afford to lose a trade? . I would love to make sense of all this. Guys the whole point is to make your own team better, with Mitch in the team and this core we can’t get past the first round. Who the F cares if we lose the trade to make our team better? If we can get some help back in a trade for Mitch. great but we could also use the cap space to get the D, G and F depth we need. Seeing people suggest to bring Mitch back infuriates me. It’s like the last 8 years never happened. The absolute worst case scenario is Mitch plays out this contract but no way in hell would I hurt this teams chances again and resign him. Is there something that Im missing here or would people rather keep this core than lose a trade and stick to the 1st round exits?
3.) 06 Jun 2024 12:59:54
Why would Marner take a pay cut and only sign for 1 or 2 years to do so? He was willing to hold out on his last deal to get his $10.9M, can't imagine he takes a 1 or 2 year deal now for even less then before.
Best thing for the Leafs to do is trade him. Doubt they get a true 1D or top goalie, but should still get a solid return and some cap space.
11 Aug 2026 20:46:54
Yup, that’s what I’m saying. He, if the crap hits the fan with our goaltending, Bob at 38 years old was brought in to deflect the crap. 7 million was the price to pay for the best available.
11 Aug 2026 20:43:40
Dude had 30 points in the regular season and 23 playoff points. Just way too much potential to throw away on a guy who would make the Marlies.
11 Aug 2026 20:27:40
Not a chance. We have plenty of players to fill that I’m definitely not retaining on Mo's salary. We’d need to upgrade our defensive lineup if we did this.
08 Aug 2026 14:45:16
Agree to disagree I guess I know he’s a really good goalie we’ve seen what he brings as for made of glass if you played on a team that allows guys to crash into you full speed with no repercussions what would you be made of. I’d really love to see someone run our goalie and all five guys on the ice get ejected for once
08 Aug 2026 14:46:23
That was supposed to say I don’t get it but it autocorrected to that lol
