Seattle wants to get better now. Toronto gets 2 top prospects for 1 of the better goal scorers over the last 2 years. Toronto takes Smits at 7th overall (Early comparisons to Seider).

This one is a swing. I know poeple don't want to give up Knies but Hughes is a top 2 d-man in the league. Toronto sells Hughes on playing with Matthews and McKenna.

I like the idea. But we must get a solid D somehow in this draft. Trade/draft, don’t care. I’m big on Chase Reid. I’d trade down a few spots, get some compensation, then go for Chase. Personally don’t think Minny would move Hughes. Maybe Faber for a solid return like Matthews. I suggested earlier that Matthews, Carlo would be a good trade for Faber and Boldy.

Don't get me wrong I want to pick McKenna as much as the next guy but what if we just explored what a trade for #1 would be.
Tor - 1st overall
Van - Buium, 3rd overall
Toronto takes one of McKenna, Stenberg, or Reid and gets a top d prospect
Tor - 1st overall, Reilly
Clb - Werenski, Fantilli, Olivier, 14th overall
Toronto gets #1 d-man, 2nd line center, best power forward in league and a high pick. Salary will be an issue here.

Cal - 6th overall, Parekh, Wolf
Toronto gets a starting goalie, a good d-prospect and drafts Smits at 6.

Considering the massive overpays by the other team. All I of them lol lol. There are a few I think if a piece or 2, were removed could be considered by the other team.

There were more basis for trades. Also, I would think it would take an overpay for a team to give up a #1 overall pick.

There are some like Calgary and NJ that have a good basis. The issue I see with most of the other teams is picking up the #1 and trading all those valuable pieces isn't where they are at in their team build. Many are looking to contend now and giving up those pieces would be a step back. Van is rebuilding, it seems, so giving up a young piece they want to build around to get another young piece to build around doesn't seem to help them move forward.
They could keep Buium and still pick 3rd and now have 2 pieces to build around.
The Columbus one seems like a massive overpayment from them, imo.

Our captain has decided that he doesn't want to commit to this team next year. Honestly, trade him asap.
SJ- Misa, 2nd overall
Tor- Matthews (Leafs retain 25%), Reilly
Toronto gets a young center and the pick they will use for a d-man. SJ gets a puck moving d-man and a defensive center to play in front of or behind Celebrini as their 1-2 punch.
Next, Sundin raved about Petersson back in the day and Toronto might be able to acquire him for cheap if they take the full contract. Toronto gets their 1st line center and Vancouver gets cap space and a 1st.

@vancream Now Matthews agree done gone! Knies for Nemec no way! I know we need another D but not trading a Knies for that. Nemec will be an excellent dman but I think we can offer next yrs first Col Robertson ++ for Nemec or look at other moves or UFA’s to sign. We build around Knies, Misa, Cowboy, our first this year McKenna, and if your prop happens Reid/Verheoff should be back in a good spot soon.
As far as Petterson man no! Not at full pop if Van retains idk 40% maybe but that guy looks a shell of what he once was, kinda like Matthews tbh.

Nylander waives to go play for Keefe again and have Hughes as a linemate. Tor gets a puck moving d-man who is a threat on the powerplay and a big prospect.

Heck ya. Zykov really looks like he has potential. Real shame to see him getting bounced around so much. Leading scorer in the AHL last year, he never really got a chance at NHL level yet. Leafs could do a lot worse than pick him up. I’m surprised Edmonton waived him so soon considering how desperate they need depth and secondary scoring. He’ll likely be reclaimed by Carolina though.

Its not an overpayment because you've really only traded a latr first round pick and Bracco for one of their too D-Man. Gardiner doesn't count because they don't need and won't be able to afford him anyway.

Promote the first line of the Marlies to the 4th line and keep the chemistry together.
Promote sparks to backup so we don't lose him for nothing.
Need a center and a defenseman. Main trade bait would be Gardiner and our first. I think we should package those two pieces together for the best defensive defenseman available for that price.
For third line center sign Stastny. Nash would be a good second option. Would be great for Tavares but he would get paid much better elsewhere.
My question to you guys is what would 50 point Gardiner and our 1st bring back on the right side of Reilly

I agree that this isn't a great dcore but it isn't terrible. Lybushkin played very well with reilly and if synergy is there between 2 players then it doesn't really matter what space in the lineup he's projected to be. If the leafs can swing tkachuk out of ottawa you do it he's unreal. There are some potential d targets in free agency such as zadorov but the leafs would have to move out more cap.

I honestly think the leafs are waiting on Berube to see if they can pry Rod out of Carolina. If Carolina gets swept for a 2nd straight year in the playoffs he could be available. If it's not Rod I put my money on Berube.

Leafs are at the 50 contract limit and would have to make a trade in order to free up a contract spot to claim him.
