It's time to re think where we are as a team..in my mind there needs to be a major shake up. My theory is as follows:
Toronto : Trades Austin Matthews
Anaheim: Trades RW Beckett Sennecke(19yr)
RD Drew Helleson(24yr)
1st and 2nd round pick 2026

I’d take it if Anaheim says yes. I’d even take Roger McQueen, Helleson a first and 2nd to kick this rebuild.

That’s not a bad return for Matthews as hockey talent goes.
But, if you are trading Matthews that leaves only the 35 year old Tavares as a top 6 center for the Leafs
In my opinion, a center as part of the return package is a must.
Something like:
To Nashville: Matthews
To Leafs, Brady Martin (C), Luke Evangelists (RW), Nicolas Hague, 1st round pick, plus Marchessault to make the cap work.
Or
To LA Kings: Matthews
To Leafs: Quinton Byfield (C), Brandt Clarke (RHD), Liam Greentree, 2026 - 1st round pick
These are just suggestions but include a young higher end center for the future.

I don’t think the Leafs can afford to trade Matthews unless a top 6 center is coming pack as part of the return package.
Two right wingers and draft picks doesn’t do it for me.

At WB, I’d do the LAK trade in a second. Byfield is good not great. Clarke is sick and Greenetree looks like he’s gonna be real good. It’s a solid start after trading Matthews. This new foundation would round into a problem.

I like the targets. Was kinda thinking something like this.
Sounds like Pietrangelo is going to be out all season leaving a big gap in the right side. So, and I realize they just got him.
Leafs trade
Marner sign and trade ( more easily said than done)
Brandon Carlo
Nic Robertson (basically a throw in)
2025 2nd 2026 3rd
Vegas trade
Tomas Hertl (rumored to be a cap casualty)
Nic Hague RFA (now Hague is a lefty but has played a lot on the right side, most recently with Hanifin when Pietro was out)
Hague is going to likely be a more expensive option than Carlo but not much. Maybe 1-1.5 mill, but the leafs have the cap space.
Vegas gets cost certainty (2yrs @ 3.5mill) As well as Marner. Hard parts getting Mitch to play ball.
Leafs get Hertl a 30/ 30 center who's 4 yrs younger than JT. As well as Hague who plays a much more physical game than Carlo and is solid defensively.
Doesn't sound like a sign and trade with Marner is going to happen but one can hope.

I don’t think it’s smart to trade woll without having stolarz locked up and if you trade will stolarz has all the leverage in his next deal both stollie and woll have had injury issues that’s why running a tandem makes more sense.

It's nearly playoff season and there's a couple of issues to deal with before July 1. Just my opinion but it's time to look at dealing Mariners' rights to San Jose for Smith. Love this kid and think he would be a great fit. I would also include Robertson and Holmberg to sweeten the deal. Leafs can't afford Marner with his new contract and you can't pay him more than Matthew's. Resign Tavares at $5-5.5 Aav x 3 years.Knies@7 Aav x 5 years..Also need to trade Kamph and Domi..Any thoughts?

I cant imagine SJ has any interest in that deal. Smith is a great young player and Mitch doesn't even have a contract.

SAN Jose isn’t where Marner will land if he isn’t back in leafland
If Leafs trade the players of least value Kampf &Jarnknok and get rid of Reaves it gives them more than $35 million heading to deadline
Marner $14 million x 8 years
Knies $7 x 4 years
Tavares 6x 5 years
Holmberg $1.5 million x 2 years
Robinson $1.5 million x 2 years
It just doesn't leave them much room to add to this team as you want a depth defencemen. The thing is if they could sign all there really good players next year is the only tight year they are in then then finally have breathing room as the cap goes to $104 million.

Leafs need Marner more than Marner needs the Leafs.
Marner will get the money he wants from one team or another.
I agree that Marner will get Leon Draisaitl money ($14) from the Leafs or he will at least explore free agency.
A lot of pundits are quoting $7 x 3 years for Tavares but also agree that offering him $6 x 5 is the way to go with the cap going up to $104 in two years.
Knies semi bridged at $7 x 4 is reasonable for both sides.
Holmberg is definitely a valuable asset and should be resigned.
Then we get to Robertson.
An RFA on July 1st.
Personally, I think Robertson would be wise to move on.
He seems to have peaked as a Leaf, Berube doesn’t appear overly inclined to play him sufficient minutes to develop and moving to a young team like San Jose Sharks, in his home State of California, would be a terrific fit for him.
I like Robertson and his perseverance through multiple, serious injuries, being healthy scratched or sitting on the end of the bench playing 8:00 minutes a night (until this year) .
I wish him all the best
I don’t see Robertson wearing a Leaf jersey next year.
