I know there is a unwritten rule that teams don't trade within the division and certainly not with a hated rival but I thought for fun why not throw this proposal out there.

To Tor: Kovacevic and Xhekaj

To Mtl: Robertson, Hirvonen, 2X 3rd picks and a 4th round pick.

To Tor: Ferraro

To SJ: Brodie (yes I know he has a NMC), Liljegren

To Tor: 4th and 5th rd pick.

To ANA: Timmons

Thoughts?

Brodie, Liljegren and Timmins are the only defensemen Leafs have who play the right side.
Ferraro is a LHD.
Can’t see this working out too well.

2.) 24 Jan 2024 10:46:58
Kovacevic can play both sides, Xhekaj plays RD.

You can switch McCabe to the right side.

Benoit has been playing the right side lately.

I know I will date myself somewhat with this info but back in the days of the U. S. S. R. their entire team shot left handed and never seemed to have an issue playing their off wing or play the right side on defence. You have players in the league who can play both sides so I am not concerned trading the players I have proposed.

To Tor: Borgen

To Sea: Timmons, Robertson, 5th rd pick.

To Tor: Ferraro

To SJ: Brodie, 3rd pick

Love to add Ferraro. Really like the kid a lot. I think it takes more though.

2.) 08 Jan 2024 03:31:01
Love the Will Borgen trade but you might have to upgrade that 5th round pick to a 3rd round pick.

With Benoit’s ($775,000) play improving along with his confidence each game he plays is Ferraro ($3.25M) really needed for a 3rd pairing defender?
I can not see San Jose having any interest in the expiring contract of 33 year old Brodie as they are early in the rebuilding stage.
The Sharks would be looking for picks and prospects not old men.

3.) 15 Jan 2024 10:00:27
I agree WB Benoit is looking pretty solid and is getting better and better, has a great addition the the evolving Lears D core. leafs should extend him soon.

First thing fire Keefe (which may happen on their west coast trip, most coaches are fired when they are on the road). Let Boucher (someone I don't really like) take over for the rest of the year then make a decision who you want in the summer.

To Min: Nylander,Kampf

To Tor: Hartman, Middleton, Johansson

(Yes I know the money doesn't work)

To Sea: Timmons, Robertson

To Tor: Borgen

To SJ: Holmberg, McMann, 5th rd pick

To Tor: Kunin

The money in these trades may not work but just throwing these out there.

The Leafs certainly need help in goal but not sure what really is out there without spending a ton for.

After last night's goalie meltdown I believe Samsonov has played his last game for the Blue and White.

Just throwing this out there but would signing one of Halak, Beurbe or Elliott to 1 year league minimum contract be the way to go? It would be a cheap option until Holl is ready to come back.

Send Samsonov to the Marlies or even the Growlers.

I would still like the Leafs to do a trade or two for a defenceman and a grinding forward.

To Sea: Timmons, 5th rd pick

To Tor: Borgen

To SJ: Abruzzese, Ovchinnikov

To Tor: Kunin

Thoughts?

Leafguru22

1.) 31 Dec 2023 03:27:51
Borgen would be a great addition.
He is a very good 3rd pairing RHD, borderline 2nd pairing.
He is also a hitting and shot blocking machine.
Not sure that Timmins and a 5th round pick would be enough to interest Ron Francis but it would be worth sweetening the offer a little to get it done.

After last night's meltdown I am at a loss. So I am throwing these out there. Don't know if them move the needle any but new bodies are needed.

To Sea:

Timmons, Ellis and a 5th rd pick.

To Tor: Borgen

To SJ: Kampf

To Tor: Kunin and a 4th rd pick.

To Min: Lilegren, Robertson, Jarnkrok and a 3rd pick.

To Tor: Middleton, Hartman

Try to trade Brodie for picks?

Put Samsonov on waivers when Woll is healthy again?

Leafguru22

1.) 23 Dec 2023 12:54:06
I like the Sea trade. ? I wouldn’t want to move Kampf, way too valuable. I don’t think Minny goes for that but. I would. Lol.

2.) 23 Dec 2023 16:03:16
Yes kampf is just an awesome contributor for that contract
Lol
A Pontus Holmberg is just as well and is 1.5 cheaper
But hey what do I know
I don’t watch hockey at all.

3.) 24 Dec 2023 06:38:25
Like all of the targets.
Borgen, Middleton, Kunin and Hartman.
Not sure those offers are quite enough but each is a starting point for negotiations.

Not sure if anyone remembers but Dubas could have had Middleton from SanJose 2 trade deadlines ago.
Instead Dubas decided on Giordano.
My question at the time was why not trade for Middleton who was cheaper than Giordano and simply sign Giordano that summer for nothing more than the contract price.

4.) 25 Dec 2023 14:13:34
Hey Clarky,

Why do you see Kampf as indispensable?

After yesterday's game I think it time for 2 things. The first thing is too fire Keefe, the players aren't buying what he is trying to sell them and therefore it is time for a new voice behind the bench.

The second thing that needs to happen is the new coach must send Marner and Matthews to the press box for a couple of games, with Klingberg on the LiTR I believe they could bring up Steeves and sign Bellows to a league minimum contract and bring him up as well. The message needs to be sent loud and clear that if you don't give a maximum effort game in and game out then you can sit in the press box.

It's pretty sad that Reaves seemed to have a better game than M&M (yes I know Reaves didn't get the same minutes that those two did) but with the giveaways that Marner dished out yesterday I was surprised that he wasn't nailed to the bench in the 3rd.

1.) 25 Nov 2023 18:49:16
Mathews can stay, Marner can be sent to Rob dias Island with Klingberg. He's fallen apart.

2.) 25 Nov 2023 22:38:13
I happened to catch the Kyper & Bourne show. i know not everyone is a fan but they said a few things after Hawk game that kinda made sense as to why the top line is not working. we have kinda mentioned it here in chat and dunno how to fix it cause we don't wanna mess with the second line. but one point they brough up was Marner is a passer and Matthews a shooter. and cause they are such good friends. it kinda leaves the third guy "out" who in this case is Knies who is different from both of them. you wou almost need another passer to feed Matthews cause 3rd guy does not get to play.

They also pointed out that Knies might be having trouble keeping up with them right now and that he seems to stay on the ice for a little longer even after they have both gone off. has anybody else noticed this and what can be done? is there another good passer out there that can be acquired for cheap?

Also. is it time to think about upgrading the net. thinkin Saros myself.

3.) 26 Nov 2023 11:14:59
I think knies has been the best of that line he keeps his game simple and has been putting the puck in last night every time Matthews and marner stepped on the ice they killed the leafs momentum.

4.) 26 Nov 2023 13:20:44
@Loxley good point. Seems like Hyman is the only one that ever actually fit in well with the top 6. They didn't like Bunting's agitator style, Bert couldn't keep up, and now Knies seems like the only one with an effort.

Marner fell off a cliff this year. He really can't drive a line without a dedicated corner guy, digging out pucks.

I like the target, Roy would certainly be an asset on the first pairing.

I do believe that LA is very desperate for a goalie so the Leafs could get a draft pick as well as a prospect included with this deal.

My only reservation to making this deal is what are your plans for backing up Jones? Jones has done well but like last year he started to fade in the second half of the season.

LOL Mackin, those trades may workout in EA Sports NHL 23 (or whatever) but have no chance in reality.

Once again Mackin knows nothing about the Leafs because if he did he would realize the following;

Bertuzzi has a NMC so he isn't going anywhere unless he wants to, both Kampf and Jarnkrok have M-NMC so I doubt they will be going anywhere.

Only forwards you could trade would be Robertson, Reaves, Knies, Holmberg, Gregor and McMann because they don't have any clauses preventing them from being traded.

So I take it the goalies for the Leafs will be Jones and Hildeby until Woll is healthy enough to return?

Not a bad player to target although I don't like wasting 1st rd picks to get players because sooner or later there will be a team rebuild.

I don't see this team competing for the cup this year or even next year so probably best to skip over Provorov and keep your 1st rd pick.
