Washington looks like they are going all in for the cup this year with the addition of Shattenkirk. The Hanzal trade has set the bar pretty high in terms of value for players and JVR isn't a rental and is on a good contract.
Tor- JVR, Sj 2nd 2018
Wash- Bowey, 2018 1st, Samsonov
It's a big overpayment by the caps but makes the caps that much better and gives toronto some great prospects and another 1st in what is supposed to be a deep draft.

That's way too much for Duchesne, Only had 1 stellar season and while done well, has never really stood out since. Could also be that the Av's like to shove their best talent on the 1st line instead of spreading it out.
I'd rather keep Brooks @ almost 2 pts/ game WHL and Bracco 1.5 pts. per game (something Duchene never accomplished 1.38), Sosh who has much more worth than just points, and Kapanen who hasn't had a chance at the Leafs yet, plus a 1st No, it's too much to risk.
Mortgage the future on one center @6M that will be the 3rd line center in a couple of years. And he'll want a massive raise in 2 years.
No thanks. And Landeskog is a better and younger player at a position we need more (LW), than another center. But I still wouldn't give all that up for him.
Your 2nd trade is much more reasonable; Dumba is still young and makes mistakes, but that's the norm, and his offense is good, and he's a hitter.

Duchene is perfect fit, where are those prospects going to play? Top 9 is filled for 5 years besides Bozak.
Who is Kapanen replacing, or leipsec. Soshnickov is getting 4th line time and waiting. Bracco, maybe one can take JVR spot or Landeskog with Duchene
Barrie with Dermott is better second pairing.

With the Islanders 1st target Liljegren or Hague. With Toronto 1st select Oettinger/ Skinner or another top rated goalie. If Toronto thinks a goalie will drop to their pick in the second round they might be able to target Foote instead with their pick.

Goalies not generally pick first Rd unless they are considered super star potential flurry task price the islacers selected dipietro who was total bust

Goalies are the one position where draft spot means nothing. Bernier and Pickard were both top picks. There's a long list of first round goalies who never even step on NHL ice. Andersen and Lundqvist were both 7th rounders. Andersen didn't get an entry level until he was redrafted two years later in the 3rd. I'd say that when drafting a goalie, go with your gut and use low picks. the success rate it only marginally higher in the first couple rounds.

With how good Andersen has been, drafting another young goalie is not as high of a priority. They also just drafted Woll who will most likely represent the US again at the next World Juniors.

I think Polak and Hunwick are more the biggest problem. Gardiner is still a solid guy and Marincin is an ok 3rd pairing guy. I really wanna see Corrado get in, could help right away.
