These trades seem like an overall improvement in both skill and toughness. Out of curiosity, with Boston's first pick, plus Holl and Kerfoot, who could Dubas trade for to put the Leafs over the top?

I’d go after bertuzzi.

Toronto T Barrie, C Ceci, Bracco.

Blues C Parayko.

Blues need more defensive scoring for current Stanley cup endeavours and a future like Bracco will help future endeavours. Parayko is big and somewhat defensively minded.

Thoughts? I think I paid too much because Barrie is a UFA at the end of the season. But Blues need him.

GrinningWolf

1.) 21 Jan 2020 15:38:31
I’d rather keep Barrie. Parayko is already regressing from his one good season. He is signed past next year, which means we would have to expose either him or Holl. He’s not going to fit Keefe’s system at all. I think it’s obvious Leafs are going with the smaller skilled type guys, and Parayko lacks in both departments.

2.) 21 Jan 2020 15:41:33
Yeah cause the second best team in the nhl and best in the West needs that trash for their best defensive Dman. Great troll post.

3.) 21 Jan 2020 16:18:01
I don't actually think Dubas wants a big, hulking Defensive D-man anymore than Army wants Barrie.

4.) 21 Jan 2020 16:56:55
Lol this right here just goes to show that you have no freaking clue what type of player Colton parayko is. Is is by far one of the fastest dmen out there is long stride allows him to catch even the fastest of guys . No skill lol this actually made my day. Just when I couldn't think you guys could get any dumber you completely redeem my faith. Lol.

5.) 21 Jan 2020 17:48:17
I forgot. The great Parayko. Future hall of famer. Norris reincarnated as an even better defenceman.

6.) 21 Jan 2020 20:27:05
The great parayko Stanley cup champion. Killer of goalies with his slap shot. Lol this offer doesn't even get you parayko jock strap lol.

7.) 21 Jan 2020 23:16:05
You would. kmow what it takes to get his jock strap. Always sniffing it ain't ya?

09 Jan 2020 15:45:45
Not my Idea, I read this one in editor in leaf.

To NJD Ceci, Bracco and 2nd

To Leafs Sami Vatenen.

Personally I can't see why NJ would want Ceci, and for the Leafs, Vatenen is a tiny, but decent RHD.

At the end of the year we would have 3 UFA dmen.

Thoughts how to tweak this? Or just trash the idea.

GrinningWolf

1.) 09 Jan 2020 17:45:59
Vatanen is a big upgrade on Ceci.

2.) 09 Jan 2020 21:08:08
Yes. Why not? Take out the pick and it’s a deal m.

3.) 09 Jan 2020 21:44:19
It does make the Leafs better though I am still hoping they can get a solid top 4 RH defensive dman with term though not many of those types available. Dillon on SJ might b interesting though he is LH and also a soon to b UFA. Then there is the usual suspects Pesce, Manson. in order for a team to take Ceci I feel the Leafs need to include a 2/ 3 rd rounder so this part is for salary space, then it’s pretty much Bracco for Vantanen which is not to far off. All and all this trade proposal is realistic.

23 Mar 2019 14:21:23
Leafs trade Nylander and Brown.

Edmonton trades Kassian and First round pick this year. I don't know if Oilers can afford this dump of Salary, but it replaces our lost 1st round pick for Muzzin, gets some grit for next year, and we can resign both Johnsson and Kappanen for a few years.

Then we can add a free agent like Ferland and not worry about Marleau.

But I assume my math might be wrong.

GrinningWolf

1.) 23 Mar 2019 14:58:33
Lol this is just bad.

2.) 23 Mar 2019 15:43:09
If by math, you mean Logic, then yes, you are a little off here. If you mean Arithmetic, then I’m sure your addition and subtraction is just fine.

Brown for Kassian is questionable. Nylander for 1st is very questionable unless that puck is 1st overall. Even then, Hughes might be a while away from nhl still. Even though Edmonton will rush his development and force him to play right away, Leafs will not. Result is we are weaker next year until Hughes starts putting up numbers similar to Nylander.

3.) 23 Mar 2019 15:55:47
Good grief, it isn't just your math that is wrong.

4.) 23 Mar 2019 23:42:59
K for once DGI i agree with you lol!

27 Feb 2019 15:48:50
At draft.
Toronto trades Brown, Zaitsev and 2019 2nd or third pick
Edmonton trades their 2019 1st pick.
Edmonton Really wants Connor to play with Connor. But maybe not as much as their first rounder.
Any ideas how to tweak this? Sign Gardiner and send him too?

GrinningWolf

1.) 27 Feb 2019 16:45:34
For one thing, I think you need to be sending money back our way, or Edmonton can’t afford to make this trade. Since Chiarelli brought in a handful of depth defensemen before getting fired, an easy solution might be just to take back a defenseman. If any of Edmonton’s interest you.

I don’t think Edmonton will cough up their 1st round pick when it has a chance at being a lottery pick. I know Edmonton will just waste it, but that’s beside the point. It’s still a valuable asset in their eyes and is worth much more than Brown and a cap dump.

2.) 27 Feb 2019 21:12:43
Maybe instead of 2019 1st edmonton gives a 2020 1st lottery protected.

3.) 28 Feb 2019 02:20:40
yeah neither brown nor Zaitsev are worth a mid to early first

Actually it would cost TOR a 1st just to dump Zaitsev. this is a nother bad prop.

For a short while our defense got better. Our goalies did not. I don't forsee a Felix Potvin out of our system, so we are stuck with so so soup.
Let him walk and we are left with what? Keep him and we are left not signing who? Time to trade Nylander, Kerfoot and Mrazek.

GrinningWolf

1.) 20 May 2022 05:47:40
Soup wasn't the issue. The second line was.

Nylander was his usual self, Tavares was a ghost 90% of the time, I'm not sure why people blame Soup.

2.) 20 May 2022 12:54:25
@GW. I agree with your last sentence.
If Soup could be had for around $4M, I think the Leafs should re-sign him. If he wants more, yes, let him walk.

20 May 2022 01:13:50
At trade deadline I was hoping for a trade for JT Miller, possibly for Nylander. Unfortunately even only one point separated them at that time, but that current cap space would have put Vancouver way over. And by the end of the season, Miller rocked a hell of a lot more points while Nylander was relegated to third line.
I don't know if Vancouver fans were the only ones coveting Nylander, or if their management did too.
Opportunity lost.

From the beginning, Nylander asked to be a centre of Babcock. Not a chance with Matthews and Tavares available. The guy will do great anywhere else, so who do you think we need to trade him to?

GrinningWolf

1.) 20 May 2022 05:50:30
Nylander will be Nylander. He has it in him to be a top.5 player in the league, but only if he wants to be. He is far more talented and physically gifted than Marner yet, Marner is the better player.

Everyone knows I always say Nylander needs to be the play driver and I still believe this to be true with a caveat. Nylander needs to be the star of a team. He needs to go somewhere like Detroit where he is the centre of all attention. If he does, he wins a Hart.

Trade him for a bag of pucks for all I care at this point.

2.) 20 May 2022 13:01:44
@GW. I think I had put out a list of teams earlier that I thought were the best option for Nylander. Off the top of my head, I think it was Nash, LA, NJ, Buf.

@LL. I know you feel that way and you have me thinking about if Nylander were the star piece, would it create a different attitude in him? I keep coming back to no as my thought. I can't think of a "Hart" type of finalist that isn't a player that already has drive. Sid came in when Pitt was not good. McDavid, Matthews etc are all players that are driven to be great. Nylander just gets driven to his next photo shoot.

3.) 21 May 2022 01:15:52
@RLF I'm thinking Taylor Hall.

4.) 21 May 2022 12:12:26
@LL. Hall was considered too wreckless with his body when he was young in Edmonton and why he was hurt so much. He had good drive. One great year in Jersey when traded.
Doesn't really remind me of Nylander who I cannot imagine any one saying "Willy, you have to be more selective with your physical play, you are a little wreckless with your body ". Maybe his mom.

5.) 21 May 2022 23:17:08
@RLF lol. They play a similar style imo. It's a really odd style that needs the right linemates to compliment.

03 May 2022 15:49:35
Line brawl with Clifford already out of the game.
It was a thing of beauty.
Keep in mind Simmonds barely outweighs Marner.
And everyone stood up against Maroon and Perry. Leafs were up 5 to 0, so naturally shennannigans.

To any of your knowledge, do we have another scrapper or boom checker in the minors?

GrinningWolf

1.) 03 May 2022 16:30:45
Douglas would have been your best option, but he is not on the playoff roster, so basically no one is stepping into the lineup for that role.

2.) 03 May 2022 18:25:37
Simmonds may not be a huge guy, but neither is Floyd Mayweather. I wouldn't count him out.

17 Feb 2022 20:36:59
Muzzin is reminding me of Ron Hainsey. Muzzin needs a break. Without a break he will get injured in playoffs. Leafs need Muzzin at his best. Rest the poor guy.
As for Holl, we need a good defensive trainer for him, or a good trade. We need good shut down defensemen.

GrinningWolf

02 Feb 2022 18:51:33
Leafs need better defense. Unfortunately Muzzin is an injury prone liability having a bad year. So give him rest but we do need a net presence.
Leafs can score whenever needed, but the Leafs need another tough guy on defense. And Muzzin seems too fragile.

GrinningWolf

1.) 03 Feb 2022 00:29:16
How quickly Muzzin went from a hero to a zero in this city lol. No wonder so many refuse to play in Toronto.

2.) 03 Feb 2022 07:17:49
Right, he had a rough start but since the first month I haven’t really minded muzzin, holls play hasn’t helped muzzin be the stud he was either. Hard to play well always worrying about what your partner is doing.

3.) 03 Feb 2022 19:20:40
Muzzin has not been the train wreck many have made him out to be. He just isn't what we have come to expect. He is playing like a 4/ 5 and we expect him to be a 2/ 3. He is a vet. He could still turn this season around. LA was notorious for coasting through the first half of the season and then turning it on the second half when Muzzin was there. There is hope that he gets back to what we expect.

With guf having a pretty good year, this might seem an off season trade unless Dubas has a plan. But there isn't much left out there to improve the leafs.

Would Miller be a good fit considering how he treats his teammates? Great stats but do we need acid in the locker room?

How about Nylander and Lilly? Maybe add a high pick? Miller has a few more points than Nylander, however he plays harder than Nylander. Miller also plays Centre and Right wing.

Schenn eats up a lot of minutes but I am not totally sold on him.

It seems Kerfoot can play anywhere the bottom 3 lines. Salary might look desirable for trade, however it seems better to keep than unload.

Tavares and Marner have been injured a fair amount this year, and are 4th and 2nd in team points respectively. They might have been 3rd and 1st respectively without the setbacks.
I don't think these four are a problem.
Ceci, Marencin and Hutch seem to be failed experiments, and we have significant prospects to fix one or two of our problems. Although I should point out Ceci has 7 points and is a plus 7. Not the best stat, but an eye opener.

Could you imagine a Marner/ McDavid combo? Edmonton makes the playoffs and we can pick up a couple of cheaper players, a good prospect, a first round pick and maybe another pick.
Any thoughts?

Keep Marner as long as possible, he is one hell of a creative playmaker as well as a decent finisher. If anyone on that wing needs changing, trade Kappy and Brown, Or Nyllie. Nylander has been a beast for team Sweeden.
