This is really far fetched, but any of these moves would be good.
UFA This Summer.
Sign Shattenkirk 7 million for 6 years
Sign Joe Thornton 6 million 2 years
Sign Daley 5 million Two years
Sign Alzner 5 million five years
Sign Kulikov 4 Million Two years
RFA
Offer Sheet Kuznetsov 6.6 Million for Seven years..... yes that means we would have to give up a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd Rd pick but the guy would be fantastic with Matthews and Marner.... just wait till you see the final line up, method to my Madness. The Draft talent sucks right now anyway.

Komorov, Bozak, and Leipisic to Buffalo for Evander Kane. Sign Kane and JVR to two year extensions 5.5 million each.

It would make the Team extreamly competitive and most older guys are signed to a friendly two year contract to free up cash to sign the Stars in two years, but it will also give the younger guys leadership skills and mental strength. You can still develop your kids in the farm and your draft picks and start adding them to the line up in two years as they develop. Basically I am saying to use your free cap money to bring in defence and leadership right now to compete next year for a cup!!! It's not getting away from the Shannyplan, plan is still the same. Only thing you will see is I did give an extra Million to players on a two year deal.... but you will have to pay that to get them to sign a two year deal in Canada. I Did stay under the cap believe it or not lol Ok.... you can rip me to pieces now.... I know it's not all realistic.... just nice to have fun dreaming and playing pretend GM

Absolutely not for Kuznetsov. First, he's more of C than LW. If the Leafs are going to go an RFA route, it would be better to target R. Johansen instead. Johansen would solidify the C position with Matthews and Kadri, and the Leafs could trade Bozak to recoup some of the picks lost.
1st, 2nd and 3rd out for Johansen
2nd and 3rd in for Bozak trade.

Bozak and Polak to St. Louis for Shattenkirk
Retain Polak's salary for the rest of the year, I know we can resign Shattenkirk this summer.
Then trade Kappanen Hunwick Dermott Mckinley 2017 first round pick 2018 second round pick to Colorado for Duchane and Pickard
I know it's a bit of a gamble, but this years draft is weak and we still have lots of picks and it keeps the team in tact and you can still protect everyone in the expansion draft. but you also have taken care of the immediate needs to make a stretch run for the playoffs and you got a good team to try to do something in the playoffs. making the playoffs would be a big success . going to the second round would be Crazy!

Defenceman are super super expensive you want shattenkirk and he signs extension. The price a first and Kapanan and I say no way. People here think you throw up JVR and get top 4 dman and according to Craig Button cost so high you must develop your own.

The St Louis Blues decide to go for it. They trade Parayko, Fabbri, yakapov, Bergland, Upshall and a 2nd Rd pick in 2017 and ( Parayko would have to be a sign and trade) 2nd Rd pick in 2018
To Toronto. For:
JVR, Bozak, Komorov, Kapanen and Polak
You keep Parayko, Fabbri and the draft picks. the other three are all UFA's so if they walk. they walk. that's how we flex our financial muscle to our advantage!
Now I realize the leafs are playing good . but make no mistake these players JVR Bozak Komorov and Polak are NOT part of the Shannyplan and I say trade em now in case someone gets hurt and you can't trade them. This trade still leaves us in a good position to protect everyone we want to for The Vegas Expansion Draft and gives us a top four right defenceman and a excellent third line centre that could easily move up to challenge Kadri for the second line centre . and these boys are both from Ontario too! Hometown boys! Plus we get a second Rd pick this year and a first next year! The Draft will be a lot stronger next year plus frees up tones of Cap space for the Leafs this Summer to make more moves! The Blues get a good shot at the Cup this year! Trade makes perfect sense for both teams.

Komarov is older and people are all about trading him. Why? Toronto is one of the best in the league on the PK and he's a huge part of that. He'll always be a cheap contract and his style is play is perfect for our third line. Not to mention he's a great mentor for the kids. Keep uncle leo

LA Kings trade Tyler Toffoli and Jake Muzzin and a 2018 first Rd pick
Then Toronto TRADES Komorov and a 2018 third Rd pick . To Detroit for Tomas Tatar who played great under Babcock but now is in a bit of a slump
And Last trade is
Toronto Trades JVR and Hunwick to Calgary for Hamilton and a 2017 third Rd pick.
Cap hit is the same
I think you could still protect all these guys in the Vegas Expansion Draft.
Ok you guys can rip it to pieces now, just fun to daydream, I realize these trades prolly won't happen. But. If you are trading any of these guys this year. You want to get a very solid return. Hopefully they keep the boys and see if they can sneak into the playoffs.

It does not make much sense to trade Komorov or JVR because their contracts are excellent cap wise. I know I have posted trades with these guys involved, but I honestly don't think the leafs will trade these guys unless the return is excellent aswell. I would like to see them trade up to select one more top ten pick and then use the rest on best players available and I'm sure with Mark Hunter in charge of drafting picks they will score one or two gems but hope they find a team to trade up in the top ten with. Now everyone is talking about Stamkos . I hope we do sign him that would be huge. If we do sign Stamkos and select Matthews 1st overall we will still not make the playoffs next year but we can watch Hockey night in Canada again with excitement on sat nights and both would be HUGE assets going forward. Once we develop, draft or sign another two or three good defenceman and a goalie we should be contenders for the next six to eight years and Hopefully and realistically we win a cup here in the next four or five years. Babcock, Shannhan and Lou seem to have a awesome master plan and they are making excellent choices and decisions. I am excited and looking forward to the draft and to July 1st and looking forward to watching this team develop into something special and great. I can't wait for the day BOB Cole says The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the Stanley Cup! Sends shivers down my spine and gives me goosebumps! Take it easy on me folks I'm a Fort Mac evacuee and got too much time on my hands lately. But I do really love this site and reading all your trade ideas and rumours. It's my favorite site cause yes there are some silly ones. But there are a lot of good ideas here that make ya think what if.

I believe the speculation with JVR stems from his current value possibly being at its peak in a cap era. He's is a proven 30+ goal scorer when he is healthy and his contract is cap friendly for the next 2 seasons. Do you risk hanging on to him and hope he doesn't demand more money in 2 years when a few of or Entry contracts come up for raises or do you the value while its high, if you wait until he has a year left he is a rental value player and will not haul the same return as now. He would fit in great with the youngsters but do you take the chance he resigns for another cap friendly contract? Or use him while his value is highest?

Khayward. Sorry about the fire and I hope you get home soon.
I have to disagree with you on a few things.
1. You said that Toronto needs to draft two or three d-man and a goalie (i agree with that part) and we will win a cup in four or five years. It takes most d-man 4 years just to get to the NHL and then there are bottom pair 5 & 6. Goalies take even longer time to develop (most don't become #1 until there are 25 and older.
2. You need high draft picks to have a better chance of drafting good players. By signing Stamkos, you get more win which decreases your odds of getting to draft the good players.
3. Toronto will need to sign Stamkos to a max deal of 11 mil and max yrs which is 7. Stamkos won't be worth the money in the last two years of his contract when we are just about to win and we need the money to sign younger player. If Lou and Shanny are smart (and they are) they will wait two year and keeping add high draft picks and when they are ready to challenge for the playoff, sign Tavares.
4. I like JVR but I think you have to trade him. If you wait until this years trade deadline when his value is at it's max, sure you will get a 1st rd pick but it will be a low pick. If you can trade him at the draft to a team like Calgary or Montreal for there pick plus prospect, do it.

Here is a realistic scenario Toronto gets the first overall pick and selects Mathews, then we trade up to the top ten and select a defenceman, and develop players again all next year make solid moves and trades, but tank again, I know this sucks but one more good draft in 2017 and maybe sign a big fish like taveres in the summer of 2017 hopefully the kids have developed enough by that time to go on a solid playoff run in 2018. I think that's what we're all prolly looking at folks.

Trading Bozak JVR and Komorov and Gardiner will be the only wa to bring in good Defencemen to build a contender. A solid playoff team need strong Defencemen and these guys will have to be traded to get those Defenceman . Plus all these guys will want large pay days in the next year or two
