It's a tough call. By trading Matthews you would get Strome (who could be a great centre in his own right, but not a game changer like Matthews), currently the 11th overall pick (landing maybe Keller, Dubois, Gautier, Sergachyov), and then another pick in the 10-20 range next year.
I for one would pass. Getting a game changer top centre is too good to pass up. In today's salary cap nhl teams like the Blackhawks and kings have shown that you put all your money into 6 pillar players, with 2-4 pieces thrown in, drafting a pillar player is more valuable than a bunch of pieces (especially when all the contracts will come up at the same time)

Intriguing proposal. Getting 1st round picks from the Coyotes is always good cause you never know when they're going to be good. Remember they made the conference finals one year than a lottery pick the next? I will tell you this, Stu Skinner is on the leafs radar for the 2017 draft.

What is Morgan Reilly's trade value and potential? Will he become a number 1 D for the leafs?

Leafs are hoping for that and everything is pushing to a yes for that (#1 D). For example, think about the World Cup this past summer with the NA team - with a team based on the best U23 he was on the top D pairing with Ekblad and with McLellan as a coach. Although he hasn't been putting in too many points recently, he's been doing the little things which matter most. I could never imagine the Leafs letting go of Rielly and I can believe Lou thinks the same.

Alright I'm just wondering what are your thoughts on Connor Brown on the Maple Leafs?
Also what were the thoughts on the kessel trade? good or bad for leafs?

Brown still needs another full season of AHL hockey to add strength.
Toronto lost the trade, but it was a trade they needed to make. Kapanen if his consistency improves has an elite skill set and goes to the dirty areas projects to be a top 6 winger, Harrington will be a good 5/6 D and possibly more if his skating improves. The picks are picks, no telling what Mark Hunter will do with them. Finally, Biggs and Erixon are dust and irrelevant.
Marner is who I wanted them to pick, it's hard to be a steal at #4 but I think he will be a Claude Giroux/Patrick Kane type player and play RW, he works at both ends and back checks hard. He will have to add considerable size and strength but I think there is lots of promise there.
Future is bright. There has never been this much skill in the system in a long time. Nylander, Marner, Brown, Bracco, Johnson, Soshnikov, Timashov, Dzierkals, Kapanen, all have good to elite skill sets. Gauthier is a defensive specialist with good size, Bailey has size with a good shot, Leipsic is a pest with skill, Korostelev has a great shot as well. On the back end Dermott leads the group, but Percy is ready for NHL and Loov and Harrington are promising. I like Valiev also, and Finn may show more this year hopefully. Granberg will be injured for seasons begin but will probably see NHL time.

I feel like you should put JVR as first line was winger and drop Kapanen, also I agree and I think we should try and get a solid right handed d to go with Reilly, as far as goaltending goes I feel as if we should draft with our Pitts first or 2nd a solid goaltender to work under Babcock and become the goaltender we needed
