Leafs sign Enroth for 750k

Good back up sign, good price - nice job Lou!

Low risk high reward. Keep these great moves coming!

2.) 30 Aug 2016 15:35:37
I think Enroth was a good pickup as well. Good SP

Leafs trade JVR and Percy
For
Trouba and #22

Leafs then trade Gardiner, Leivo
For
Oilers #4

We now draft tzachuk and only have 3 stud d (rielly, trouba, and Zaitsev come expansion draft

We now trade #31 and 22 to move up into top 15 to grab Bean or chycrun

Thoughts?

Here we go again. have you been reading lab16?. just ridiculous

2.) 23 Jun 2016 08:06:41
So I'm not the only one who thinks that lab16 is an closet NHL 16 GM?

3.) 23 Jun 2016 08:42:54
thought is that Edmonton laughs their asses off. Not even close to enough from Leafs.

4.) 23 Jun 2016 12:31:57
The 10 YEAR TANK team's management isn't laughing at all.

After 9 years of TANKING THEY ACHIEVE Dead Last + 1 point.

They are clearly not laughing.

And they haven't been reading Jimmy, because he rarely ever posts anything, just sits there and makes lame comments.

5.) 23 Jun 2016 15:36:28
pretty sure their new GM hasn't been there but 2 years, and yah he'd laugh at that offer from Leafs

6.) 23 Jun 2016 15:45:57
You call whoever you can to get this done

7.) 23 Jun 2016 20:09:52
Besides the personal attacks I like the Winnipeg trade but Toronto has to add. Makes sense. Oilers trade doesn't happen. Edmonton can't trade with the Leafs because they don't complement each other. The Oilers and Ducks match up nicely; defensive depth for scoring up front.

8.) 23 Jun 2016 20:44:57
Well my dear friend lab 16 at least my lame comments are directed at your ridiculous posts. at least when I post somethomg it has some merit when you post most people roll their eyes. wonder why that is?

With Chicago losing and Winnipeg's acquired 1st rder just had a thought - Do you think if the leafs had #2 or #3 and Winnipeg had #4-8 that Hunter trades down for Winnipeg's #4-8 pick plus Chicago's 1st rder?

A lot of really good players in 4-8, and a bunch of solid players in 20s.

In addition to this, perhaps Lou then moves Chicago's and Pittsburg's picks to move into the early teens.

Anyways, just some ideas while I await Saturday with great anticipation!

spitfire191

1.) 26 Apr 2016 06:16:05
I don't think they trade down if they could nab one of the big Finns, they're a significant notch above the next tier. But your strategy might work if we pick fourth. With some scouts saying there are as many as a dozen players worthy of that slot, they might consider moving down a few notches and then packaging the assets gained with the Pens first rounder to get a second pick in the top fifteen.

11 Apr 2016 04:31:18
Just going off of today's article on the Oilers and what they're willing to give up. including their top pick. They are looking for d and size.

I would love that pick, without giving up something we'd regret, thoughts on this:

Oilers pick - let's assume hockey gods are done granting favour to Edmonton, and they get #5

To TO: 5th overall pick

To Edmonton: Percy or Corrado, Lindberg, 3rd Rd pick

as well as Cowan if they wanted a shot at resurrecting his career (perhaps we take a contract back)

Thoughts? Just throwing out an idea as us love that pick.

spitfire191

1.) 11 Apr 2016 04:37:49
Thinking about it more from edmontons point of view, maybe we give up a higher pick to get it done

But it does give them a promising Dman, big winger (the goat could be another option for their 4th line) and say a 2nd Rd pick

We then use this pick to grab Juolevi or Tzachuk

2.) 11 Apr 2016 05:14:48
I think a 5th overall pick generates a lot of interest, and it would cost us more since many teams would be in on that bidding war.

3.) 11 Apr 2016 12:21:50
My thoughts are Edmonton would stand pat and draft Chychrun if they are 4th or 5th in the draft.

Otherwise, I don't think the Leafs have the D-Man needed to get a deal done with the Oilers, unless we give up Rielly which I don't see the reason to do that.

If EDM would accept a package of the following, do it!

To EDM: D - J. Gardiner + 2016 2nd round pick + D - S. Percy

To TOR: 2016 1st round pick

4.) 11 Apr 2016 22:33:28
Totally agree with TorontoBuds; the Oilers draft Chychrun at 5 OR they have to get a puck moving defender in return. Having said that giving up Gardiner and a second and Percy for a question mark at 5th doesn't make sense.

5.) 12 Apr 2016 14:23:00
Well said Chris. How much time would it take to turn a pick into a player of Gardiners skill. If he does at all.

6.) 19 Apr 2016 16:28:10
Defensive prospects are notoriously unpredictable. Lood at Gryffin Reinhart. still waiting.

Detroit usually waits until they are 21 until they break into the NHL (sometimes even longer). Forwards usually take less time but realistically 3 years before they can make an impact at the NHL level (unless you're McDavid or Ekblad)

Browny in at 2.1 Mil AAV for 3 years - Great Signing Lou!

spitfire191

1.) 27 Aug 2017 09:45:29
Yes that's a low number and I think leafs will try to get all future kids signed at reasonable price. Selling the idea that we can be good for very long time if each player takes a bit less.

29 Jun 2017 06:24:59
So with McD rumoured to be north of 13m/yr what do people think will be Lou's strategy?

I think realistically with connor setting a new bar we will be doing well if we can land the following numbers:

Matthews @ 11.75m over 8
Nylander and Marner @ 7m over 7

Thoughts?

spitfire191

1.) 29 Jun 2017 13:01:06
Matthews @ 11 x 8 years
Nylander and Marner @ $6.5 MM x 8 years.

That is 24 MM, and in the first year of Matthews contract Nylander and Marner constitute of projected salary cap of $79 MM.

No projected bonus cap and only 1 year of Nathan Horton LTIR. Three years more of Phil Kessel $1.2 MM dead monies.

By 4 years into Mathews, Marner and Nylander contract, and projected salary of $87 MM an annual increase by $ 2MM approx. 2% increase annually.

The $24 MM will not be as onerous with the core of 11 players commanding $58.5 MM annually of the $87 MM. ( 6 forwards + 4 D + 1 Goaltender) There will be $30 MM to spend on the other 12 players.

Figure 6 players on ELC or RFA totaling $9 MM. Six other players at $20 MM, that is reasonable with a very talented core. Nylander and Matthews are your 1 and 2 Centers, with Kadri at the 3 C. Kapenen, Bracco, Hyman, Brown, Marner, Soshnikov, Gunnerson, GOAT.

So let's not be to be overly concerned about hitting the cap as long as the Union increases the cap by 2.5 % per annum.

2.) 29 Jun 2017 13:04:51
I feel as though they all love the team and know they won't be able to stick together and compete at those prices. 9-10m for Auston and 6-6.5m for the other 2 is more of a goal imo.

3.) 29 Jun 2017 17:51:32
Matthews 10.5m and nylander 6m marner 7m all for eight years.

4.) 29 Jun 2017 20:29:34
Matthews will probably be looking closer to 11-12 depending on mcdavid contract and how he looks over the next 2 seasons. I also think marner will command closer to 8or9 by the time his contract is up. People will pay that for him if he continues to excel. It would be great to get a home town discount. But I think nylander will be traded and marner will play with Matthews.

For a while I've wondered this, and would surprise me if the NHL has not....

As for goal-line reviews, forget cameras....it can't be that difficult to put a GPS beakon in the puck and then just use GPS. No need to "see" it.

I mean even put sensors in the posts of the net, and if the puck crosses past the sensors the goal light goes on....is there something i'm missing here? The way we do it now is archaic, inefficient and sometimes costs teams games

spitfire191

1.) 20 Feb 2017 14:44:17
IMO, I don't think the current system is archaich or inefficient. Video review seems to be the status quo in all big 4 sports and has only improved over the years with more angles and improved technology (especially in hockey) . So in that sense the NHL isn't behind other leagues. I could be wrong but I think soccer/ MLS is just only starting to adopt video review.

The NHL war room in TO also has access to more angles that are not shown to viewers. So on TV when goals seem to be very unclear to viewers, I think that behind the seens the NHL disects all the angles and has a much better picture to make the appropriate call.

Im not sure if the NHL has looked into the tech that you are talking about, but I feel that it would get a lot of opposition especially from long time/ old school hockey fans. The sensors/ gps or whatever would definitely help with plays where the puck is under the goalie and is not visible and believed to be in the net, but the tech would have to be absolutely flawless or else play would go to video review anyway.

Overall, I can see where you are coming from though and I think hockey teams/ fans are often frustrated with unclear or ambiguous calls. This might just be an imperfect quality that comes with the game.

Leafs Sign Moore. another talented forward for the farm. great to be building such depth for competition, injuries and trades!

All this talk on TSN about a work stoppage in a few hrs makes me worry it will be right as we are peaking. I'm sick of these labour issues.

Fact: you both make lots of money on the backs of the working class - don't be so greedy and let us enjoy some hockey.

Also I believe Tavares can only sign 7 yrs with us unless sign and trade. Matthews can only sign 8 yr. Yes, Marner will be 7.5 I’d say Nylander 7.

The steady mean shutdown defensemen won’t cost anything. it is Russian, friend of Zaitsev, and been connected to Leafs, Igor Ozhiganov.

It would take a lot more than RNH to pry away Klingberg. I’d say he’s pretty untouchable.

Trading Gardiner defeats the purpose. he is a good, young top4 defender - we need those, and shouldn't be trading them away. i'd simply do JVR for Theodore. add picks where needed (on #1s)

I would wait till we go after any young stud like trouba. we can only protect 3. Zaitsev is safe but by signing as young stud = lose carrick

My line up would be:

Hyman - JT - Marner
Nylander - Matthews - Kapanen
Spezza - Kerfoot - Johnsson
Moore - Shore - Bracco/ Petan/ Agostino

Rielly - Ceci
Muzzin - Barrie
Dermott - Liljegren/ Sandin

Andersen
Hutchinson/ Sparks

I like it. more balanced than last year.

I think he was referring to the Tampa game. Yes, tonight we were the better team, and i'm glad we pulled it out. How Crosby was left open at the end blows me away. but hey, i'm sure Babcock will correct that.

Lets enjoy this one tonight, the rebuild has been better than anyone could have hoped for, and with a pt tomorrow we will see the battle of Ontario which would make my spring!

Lots to be excited about. Lou will make 1 more addition for the D core (we have great forward depth, lots of picks, cap room - and other teams can't protect them all) and move everyone down a slot. then our D will look great!

1st Pair - ________? and Rielly
2nd Pair - Zaitsev and Gardiner
3rd Pair - Carrick and Polak ( to be replaced by Dermott or Nielsen)

The 4th wasn't for Frankie, it was for taking the salary of Fehr to make room for Streit.

The biggest issue I see going after trouba is if we don't give up Gardiner, than trouba becomes the third D to protect meaning carrick gets snagged in expansion draft

Agreed Nazem, I'd take out greening, and put komarov with the kids, soshnikov with Bozak and Brown

Hyman may also warrant a spot on the 4th line
