Anaheim are likely to rebuild, Tavares is not a fit.

Canucks:
Justin Holl D (2 million)
Ilya Mikheyev RW (1.65 million)
Petr Mrazek G (3.8 million)

Don't think Van has the cap room, nor do they need a $3.8M backup. Toronto doesn't need another high price forward either. I don't think your values are really off, it just seems like a deal that only helps the Leafs this year, but may need to move Boeser in the off-season because they can't afford him.

2.) 07 Dec 2021 23:43:27
Border seems to be injured far too much for him to be the centerpiece of the trade.
Chronically injured players are a no go.

"Here take my garbage. I promise they're all great"

Benning is gone. Nobody in their right mind does this except him.

Toronto:
E. Kane LW

San Jose:
J. Holl D
N. Ritchie RW
I. Mikheyev LW
(50% retained on Kane salary)

LesHabitants

1.) 02 Dec 2021 03:28:09
The Leafs aren't desperate, so they should have no interest in E. Kane.

2.) 02 Dec 2021 13:59:09
I've been trying to say leafs want nothing to do with Kane. But then I think, what about 1.75m for 3 seasons of Kane. Plus we can get rid of Ritchie, and save 500k cap space.

Don't get me wrong, the off ice issues need some work, but if Kane can still do what he does on the ice, he could just be that final peice of the puzzle for the leafs stanley cup.

Kane Matthews Marner

This could just be like Boston's perfection line 2.0.

3.) 02 Dec 2021 17:01:09
Just my opinion, but the team is getting to be a pretty tight group and a guy like Kane is the last thing this team needs off the ice. The locker room don't need a guy with a gambling problem that misses meetings/ practices, breaks C19 protocols and is really just a selfish individual who can't control himself and won't put the team success ahead of his own self centeredness.

4.) 03 Dec 2021 22:08:35
Kane's current teammates hate his guts and can't wait for him to be gone. Why would you ever want him in Toronto? Hard pass.

5.) 04 Dec 2021 21:38:28
He'd ruin team morale.

J. Chychrun D (4.5mil x4)
L. Crouse LW (1.5mil x 1)

Not bad for a Habs fan. lol

As a Leaf fan, I would do it. We get about $2M in cap space. A cost controlled 1LD, could move Tavares to Matthews wing and use Dvorak as the 2C who is also cost controlled. Crouse is a solid bottom 6 big man. Then we move Rielly for prospects/ picks and open up another $5M to use to make the roster even better either through FA or more deals.

Not sure if ARZ should or would.

2.) 28 Jul 2021 17:33:10
Cap space is only good if you already have stars. Trading stars does not make you necessarily better.

3.) 28 Jul 2021 18:43:08
And no cap space is not good if you overpay your stars and have no money to surround them with half decent talent. Sometimes not trading a star doesn't make you better.

Islanders:
JVR LW (4.25/ 1yr)
Frederik Gauthier C (.900/ 2yrs)
Brendan Leipsic C (RFA)
2nd 2018

Leafs:
Mikhail Grabovski C (5/ 1yr)
Nikolai Kulemin RW (4.2/ 1yr)
Jaroslav Halak G (4.5/ 1yr)
Michael Dal Colle LW (.900/ 2yrs)
Mathew Barzal C (.900/ 2yrs)

Leafs take on over 9 million in salary and prospects and Islanders can sign UFA around Tavares.

Leafs can probably flip these players at Trade deadline for 3rd 0r 4ths.

LesHabitants

1.) 27 May 2017 22:15:19
Grabbo may be damaged goods.
Kulemin will never play here; not ahead of the players we already have.
Halak, the Leafs don't need.
Dal Colle has not produced to date, and can't even make the Islanders.
Barzal is the only good piece here and I doubt they will give up on him.

It's too much to give up for so little in return, and to pay the extra cap on top of that; it's a non-starter.

The Leafs need to solve the RHD issue first, your the above doesn't deal with that. All other positions are of secondary importance for now and can be upgraded later. We will need to add about 4 or 5 RHD pieces in total over the next year.

So how are your Habs doing with their dreams of glory busted.

Take it easy there garth snow,
Might want to sit the next few plays out.

Cheaper to sign him to an offer sheet of 7 million a year (not worth it by the way) and trade JVR for picks and/ or prospects.

With an offer sheet you'd loose 1st,2nd and 3rd.

There are very few D that are worth that much if not more $$$. (Drew Doughty, PK Subban, Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns, Alex Pietrangelo, Victor Hedman, Seth Jones and in the future maybe Rasmus Ristolainen and Zachary Werenski)
