Knies for Jason Robertson 1 for 1. Who would you prefer?
Robertson has more offensive upside and may be willing to play with his brother but would cost twice as much as Knies.
What about part of a larger package? Ie
To Toronto: Robertson and Bourque (both signed)
To Dallas: Knies, Danford, 2027 1st Colorado
Or if Dallas is willing to part with Harley, then add Cowan and replace Bourque with Harley

Personally I don't care for Robertson, very one-dimensional player and, like you said, costs a lot more.

Robertson turned down 15. If he wants anything close to that I say no. That just sets up another Nylander/Marner situation where two wingers make a ton of money.

To hell with Robertson. My buddy thought I was gonna blow a gasket when he turned down both Seattle and St. Louis. Because they weren’t contenders. 2 teams with very deep depth in their organizations that will be contenders quicker than some realize. Oh… he must not think highly of himself as a player to realize he could have led the charge for either team.
My ultimate karma would be that he signs eiyh a contender that runs into issues in 4 or 5 years and needs to retool or rebuild. He then wants out and has 2 the top contenders on his list Seattle and St. Louis. Who both say“ Sortu dude we needed you then we don’t need you now. Enjoy life in the down elevator.

I know this Zach Werenski stuff has been talked to death but I think it’s quite reasonable to compare this to the Hughes trade last year. Both recent Norris winners, both top 5 defense man in the league (you can debate generational vs great players) and while I would agree that Hughes is slightly better, Werenski flies under the radar even more than Hughes did in a Canadian Vancouver market.
To Minnesota: Quinn Hughes
To Vancouver: -Rossi (C) (2020 9th overall pick 21 points in 26 games at the time of the trade)
-Buium (D) (2024 12th overall pick 14 points in 31 games at the trade)
-Ohgren (RW) (2022 19th overall pick 0 points in 18 games with minimal usage)
-Minnesota’s 2026 1st round pick
To compare to what the Leafs would have to offer, Knies probably has similar value as Rossi (taking into account Rossi is a centre compared to Knies as a winger), Cowan probably has similar (to slightly less) value as buium, Danford is similar to Ohgren and Colorado's 1st is similar to Minnesota’s 1st
So in order to make this trade, it would probably have to look like:
To Columbus: Knies, Cowan, Danford, and Colorado’s first 2027
To Tor: Werenski
Not original I know but is this worth it??? It’s player heavy which Columbus wants, but there’s to Thomas Harley who is being rumoured from Dallas

At that cost I wouldn’t do it. It'd be the same old crap, trade our young players with any value off. Werenski is a good player but I think we did really well in the draft and we may have picked a guy that could very well be the next Werenski.
Honestly our defense has already been improved so I’m not willing to trade the farm at this point.

Knies, Cowan, Danford, and Colorado’s first 2027? That is a big package to give up for one d-main. In a year where there are not many forwards of the calibre of Knies and Cowan in the UFA market. If you are giving up that package you need to have at least one forward coming back.
If you offered that same package to Dallas for Harley and Bourque you might have some interest, especially with their cap situation. I hat giving up young guys like that but the return would fill needs up front and on defense. And possibly allow another trade for a good forward utilizing OEL.

Leafs trade Knies, Reilly, and Colorado 2027 1st to SJ for picks #2 and #9
Trade #2 to St. Louis for their 4 1st rounders (11, 15, 16, 29)
Probably some room to move up again ie #9, #11, #29 for Calgary’s #6 or Seattle’s #7 to have more selection but one of the 5 defence or Bjork will be available at 9 and then the Leafs have 4 more firsts.
I like the idea of getting Chase Reid at #2 but if he’s 1-2 years away anyway I would rather have 5 players (#’s 9, 11, 15, 16, 29) who are 2-3 years away.

Matthew’s to San Jose for Misa and #2 overall
Flip either the first or second overall (whatever it takes) to Calgary for Parekh and #6 overall
Matthew’s leaves, but bring in Misa and Parekh plus drafting at #1 OR 2 and #6
Draft McKenna/Stenburg plus Malhotra or whoever is left of the great defenceman.
Suddenly have the best prospect pool in the league.
