So, there are rumours that TOR and UTAH are discussing Sergachev. He carries an $8.5M cap hit with 5 years remaining. The Leafs have $1.919M in cap space remaining. Let's say they need to shed $6.6M in cap to make this work of UTAH retains salary

To TOR:
Sergachev with at least $2.5M retained (29.5%)

To Utah:
Danford (over Cowan since we're gaining a D but one of them would have to be included)
Robertson $1.8M
OEL $3.5M (a reunion of sorts)
Jarnkrok $2.1M
+ A draft pick (3rd or 2nd) if more than $2.5M retained

This still leaves capspace to add Cowan and another piece. A bigger piece if Kamf could be moved.

Don’t see why Utah does that? Other Danford it’s a bunch of meh in that package. Not to mention retaining 12.5M for us over 5 years?

2.) 03 Sep 2025 17:17:17
Pass from Utah. Bunch of nothing and a D prospect is not enough .

3.) 04 Sep 2025 12:17:51
It's not crazy far off the haul tampa got for sergachev. From Utah. But the difference being sergachev needed a new contract and Tampa knew they weren't going to be able to keep him. Utah doesn't have the need to move him.

Ok, a wild blockbuster idea requiring players to waive NMC

To Tor:
Johnston
Robertson (sign extension)
Harley (sign extension)
Kyrou
2026 2nd
2027 1st

To Dal
Matthews
Reilly
Jarnkrok (50% retained)
2026 3rd
2027 4th
2027 6th

Kyrou plays for st. louis.

2.) 18 Aug 2025 21:38:10
Christian Kyrou is a 21 year old offensively minded RHD in the Dallas system. He’s a puck mover, passer and PP guy. His defence needs work but there is time to develop him. He is 5’11” and 165lbs so he needs to fill out and get stronger. He’d need to be paired with a stay at home D man so he can join the rush. But he’s still a few years away from the NHL anyway.

3.) 19 Aug 2025 01:19:07
Seems rather one sided.
Leafs give up only one player of value (Matthews) while Dallas sends Toronto Robertson, Harley and Johnston plus a 1st and 2nd round pick.

If I’m Toronto I make this deal in a heartbeat.
If I’m Dallas I merely chuckle and hang up!

Marco Rossi (RFA) is not reporting to camp so he should be available. He's small but a skilled 2C.

To Tor:
Rossi

To Min:
Domi
Robertson
Danford

I’d really consider doing this.

2.) 17 Aug 2025 03:26:15
I would definitely make this trade if Minnesota would.
I’ve been a fan of Rossi since before he was drafted and still playing with Ottawa in the OHL.
23 years old.
Short, yes!
But 192 lbs.
Perfect future 2nd line center.
Move Tavares to LW.

Need two players to waive their NMC to make this one work so it's longshot

To Tor:
Hronek

To Van
Reilly
Robertson
2028 3rd

Will never happen. LA is a playoff team. They just have the unfortunate luck of running into Edmonton.

Kopitar and Doughty can still play a d not retired yet. What you are proposing is a rebuild strategy. Maybe in a couple of years but not while they are still competitive.

BUF just drafted 18 yr old in the first rd #9, 21 year old Kulich is also a 1st Rd #28. Both are under control until age 26

BUF also has a roster size of 23 right now. This trade will mean they are at 25 and need to drop two.

So, you want BUF to give up 2 first rounders under control for many years and a pick and then drop 2 players from their roster to make it fit for a 23 year old 2nd rounder that hasn’t yet found himself and two older role playing Bottom 6 forwards with 1 and 2 years of control respectively?

No way Reilly waives to go to PHI that won’t even make the playoffs.

He is still a decent playoff performer

2024-2025. 4+3=7pts in 13GP (6 vs OTT, 1 vs FLA)
Career. 15+32=47pts in 70GP

Other Leafs 2024-2025 playoffs 13GP
Nylander 15pts
Marner 13pts
Matthews 11pts
Knies 7 pts
JT 7pts
Domi 7pts.

And how do you propose the “league pit a stop to it”?

Marner didn’t want to be traded as he was going into the playoffs and that was his best shot at a cup that year. In late June (after the Leafs were done), he asked current Leaf players Reaves and Pacioretty (former Vegas players) about Vegas. So how is that tampering? He wasn’t talking to Eichel, Stone or any current Vegas players. What if he asked Lorentz and OEL about Florida? Or Carlo about Boston? Or Tanev about Calgary?

Don’t overthink it. Players can talk to each other. I don’t think there is anything in the CBA that says they can’t especially if it was Marner that initiated the conversation. But Vegas management cannot talk to him until Free Agency opens up.

Vegas could have traded a mid round pick for the signing rights to Marner and got the 8th year. So, even getting Roy is a win.

This league has too many NMC, NTC, and M-NTC and that is the issue. Some suggest going the NBA and MLB route and eliminate them altogether. NHL players won’t go for it though. Instead, I’d say you can offer those but not in the last year of a contract. That way, the team has the flexibility to move the contract if an extension is not likely. That would have made a Marner Rantanen trade a reality.
