I don't get it. Gardiner is a liability moreso than anything.
Gardiner and 2nd 2017 get you Shattenkirk
JVR and Kapanen gets you Schwartz and Parayko
Kapanen is hardly an asset these days. Parayko is exactly what the leafs need. a 6'5 right handed big and mean disciplined defender, who puts up points as well. Plus schwartz will get you 20 plus goals a year.

Respectfully DISAGREE on your assessment of Gardiner. He's not a liability. He's a solid puck moving defensemen whose advanced stats are hieroglyphs to his detractors. Even the eye test showed him to be a very capable Dman last year. That deal was an unrealistic overpayment from the Leafs perspective.

leafsfan10 how is that weak bro lol. i'm saying based on my opinion Gardiner is a liability, not undermining his worth. He still has trade value, which is why I'm saying him and a second get you shattenkirk. who is significantly better than Gardiner.
On the other hand, I'm loving Parayko too hard and his worth may not actually be as high as I thought. He will undoubtedly be an unreal defenseman, but I don't blame you guys for not knowing anything about hockey.
Anyways the trade value was a little bit of an overpayment since Kapanen actually has some worth (even though its most likely done for him). showing too much love for my opinion these days. So I would say JVR gets you Parayko and Shcwartz.

Joulevi will go 6th-10th probably, and I suggested they target Aho before. I think Carolina hold him in high regards, maybe a 2nd and Kapanen. If the Leafs can get a pick between 6th and 10th though they have options in Joulevi, Chychrun and Sergachyev. They could use Pitts pick and some prospects to move up. I wouldn't mind seeing that happen.

Bozak and Holland will have to go if we somehow land both. And then once Matthews' entry level contract expires, they may have to trade kadri, depending how everything falls into place in the coming years.
