To leafs:
Kevin Bieksa
Brandon Montour
1st Rd pick 2019 *conditional pick if JVR resigns with Anaheim the leafs get the ducks 1st and TML surrenders a 2nd to Anaheim*
To ducks:
James van Riemsdyk
Frank Corrado.

Umm No and pretty sure that Corrado was just dealt.

To leafs: Matt Dumba rhd 22 years old, 2.55, 1 more year then RFA. 52 games 7goals 24 points +24.
To wild: James van Riemsdyk ( leafs retain 50%) + Matt Hunwick+ 2nd or 3rd Rd Pick or prospect of equivalent value.
I am not 100% sure this works cap wise.
Wild are going to lose a good defenceman in expansion so maybe this would be enough to pick up that stud rhd for leafs core.

Id love to get Dumba. This seems like a lot to give to tho. I know, I know, a young RHD is expensive. JVR is valuable alone tho, if we retain 50% as well than that makes him even more valuable.
Hunwick could grab a 2nd-3rd in the coming weeks. That's basically three picks we'd be giving up, three chances of finding our own man to develop.
Maybe switch out those picks for a current prospect we have. There's an abundance of RW prospects and they can't all play. Kap or Bracco maybe. Maybe Brown?
I'd hate to see so many draft picks go. So would Hunter!

2.) 09 Feb 2017 03:06:06
Honestly, I would give a lot to acquire Matt dumba. I think he's an absolute stud. He's young, gritty and I think he'd make an incredible pair with neilson one day. Couple of sludge hammers.

3.) 09 Feb 2017 15:39:52
Look if the other team cannot do a trade without us retaining salary then they should go elsewhere. especially at JVR's rate.

4.) 09 Feb 2017 18:07:31
JVR has one more year then UFA, so retaining $2 million for 1 year doesn't hurt the leafs much at all. Should be $20 million to spend this summer, are you really worried about 2 million for one season if the leafs acquire a stud dman.

5.) 09 Feb 2017 19:00:20
I was pretty set in believing that retaining salary is a terrible idea as well. I don't think JVR will get traded, I think we'll resign him. But if he's going to be traded why not maximize his value? Retaining salary increases his value. There isn't a team out there who wouldn't want a player like JVR and only have to pay him 2 mill a year. His contract is up after next season and we have more cap space than we need. If it brings back a significant piece, why not?

06 Feb 2017 23:31:16
Leafs
James van Riemsdyk 4.25, 1 more year
Roman Polak 2.25, UFA after this season
Brendan Leipsic
Islanders
Travis Hamonic 3.86, 3 more years
Ryan Strome 2.5, 1 more year than RFA
If the islanders play well the next couple weeks they won't consider this at all, we'll see.

Saulgoodman

1.) 07 Feb 2017 02:47:35
Leafs better to jus keep JVR if they are going to playoffs.

2.) 07 Feb 2017 08:18:13
Goatson

If right trade is there you must move JVR at deadline

The piece you get by packaging JVR will help back end big time

Then you hope like HELL Leivo can put up pts playing with good linemates.

04 Feb 2017 00:02:31
Leafs get: Jacob Trouba
Jets get: van Riemsdyk, Brendan Leipsic, 2nd Rd pick 2018.

Saulgoodman

1.) 04 Feb 2017 04:34:13
loooooooooooooooooooooool funny trouba is not worth that much try:
nylander leivo 2nd round pick=trouba.

2.) 04 Feb 2017 05:29:52
Might not be a popular opinion but I wouldn't do Nylander or JVR for trouba straight up. I think the market for D is so inflated right now. Better to sit tight till after expansion, see where you draft and then evaluate.

3.) 04 Feb 2017 06:38:24
Sauloodman

Would u give up nylander b4 you gave up JVR. I would try to sell jets veteran package JVR Bozak and pick or throw them a Dermott . Leafs have many spare parts they can overwhelm partner to get deal done. Dermott is not a blue chip defenceman

Leafs blue chips dmen

Neilson
Greenway
And kid they draft 2017 draft

Valliev is unknown also a secondary prospect.

4.) 04 Feb 2017 07:37:37
he isn't even worth nylander.

5.) 04 Feb 2017 13:46:09
No @davidmacklin. IMO Nylander is a keeper. JVR, prospects/ draft picks for a top pairing d. Trouba would be perfect but I would go after Chris tanev or Travis Hamonic as fall back options.

6.) 04 Feb 2017 15:47:50
Soulgoodman

I didn't say I trade nylander I said I move veteran package to jets. Players leafs can live without JVR Bozak Komarov and either Dermott or valiev jets can't pick one. But leafs can't do deal now unless they fall out of this with more loses. Next two games leafs must win Boston and islanders.

1 Jacob Trouba for JVR, Polak,3rd Rd pick, prospect of jets choice Bracco, Dermott, Leipsic or Grundstrom
This only works if Jets can flip JVR or another forward/ whatever for help at LHD and maybe center.
2 Bozak to Las Vegas. Let Vegas pick Bozak and Leafs get a 3rd or 4th Rd pick.
3 Martin Hanzal signs with leafs 5 years, 27.5
Andersen Bibeau
Rielly Trouba
Gardiner Zaitsev
Nielsen Carrick
Marincin
Nylander Matthews Hyman
Brown Kadri Marner
Kapanen Hanzal Komarov
Martin Gauthier Soshnikov
Rychel Leivo
Make it happen Lou.

1.) 05 Feb 2017 06:54:49
1st trade is such an overpayment. TROUBA wouldn't fit in the Babcock system with his attitude.

2.) 08 Feb 2017 23:12:37
1) I wouldn't trade JVR straight up for Trouba. Maybe Gardiner + Carrick.

2) As far as I understand it, you can't make any prior trade deals with the Knights until after the draft. At which point they will already have Bozak if you don't protect him.

3) Hanzal's offense has never been that good to warrant that contract; and it's for too long.

3.) 09 Feb 2017 18:37:03
From what I've been reading Mcphee (Vegas gm) can make trades after owner makes final payment to the NHL which will happen before the trade deadline apparently. The trades he can make are limited but draft picks/ prospects could be in play. It's confusing, google it.
Your probably right about that being too much for Hanzal, I appreciate the feedback.

4.) 11 Feb 2017 19:51:30
They cannot trade or sign players with a 2016 contract.

they can however:

Sign unsigned FA, unsigned draft picks, undrafted players.
Trade picks for other picks and un-contracted players,

and the one that gets me:

He can start making deals for the expansion draft.

It kind of defeats the point of having the draft.

But for March 2nd. (the deal doesn't become valid until after the season. )

So the Leafs can offer for the expansion draft (off the top of my head) :

TOR: Nylander, Leipsic, and Dermott + Marincin (as the designated pick for the draft) .

LV: 1st and 2nd.

Nylander meets the 1st and Dermott the 2nd. Leipsic is the extra grease to the wheel, and Marincin is what the Ducks would choose if no deal is made.

By that, I expect Lou to do enough deals at the deadline so that Marincin or worse is the Knights only option. That makes dealing prior to the draft an attractive option for the Knights.

The Leafs get to defer paying a high salary or two, for 1 or two extra years. Get to choose 2 extra quality picks, still have their own.

Manson would be a great fit on leafs blue line. The leafs need his toughness and ability to clear the front of the net.
This is an overpayment by Anaheim, drop the 2nd rounder at least.
I would trade Leivo for Ritchie straight up without hesistation.

Pretty sure the leafs don't have a 3rd Rd pick this year and I'd rather play the kids/ let them gain valuable experience this year while there is no pressure on leafs.

Maatta to ltir (injured reserve) he is not part of the trade posted. It's almost like people here see what they want so they can be critical of others. sad.

Leivo/ Kapanen/ Leipsic replace JVR, Bracco, Grundstrom might be ready next year to. Bozak's ideal replacement is UFA Martin the Martian Hanzal. I agree with the rest of your comments but I wouldn't complain if they made the right deal for that stud rhd we can't shut up about.

Shattenkirk at $8 million is not a good idea for one year, two years, or 50 years. He is worth $5. Some desperate gm will give him $7.
