So first you’re going to completely rip Minnesota off, then you’re going to put Zucker on the third line behind Hyman and Johnsson? And Marleau is our 4th line center?

There is so much wrong here. At minimum, I’m just glad you’re not the coach.

2.) 12 Jul 2018 08:21:32
@LeafsGM
Minny lacks some cap space and Dumba is getting a raise and so will zucker. So they actually save some cap space because Zucker should get close to 4 mil per season.

And, so the way I see it, Yes I slide Johnsson on the second line where I feel he can skate with Marner, gain zones and drive back D while JT comes in a little later giving Marner some options.

And sure, Zucker could be in that spot too but I decided to slap him on the third line to boost the goal scoring more. Remember we are a 1-2-3- punch forward motion team.

I also realise that Kadri's line use to take on number one lines.

This year I give that to Matthews line, and it becomes a learning curve for them, while the JT line gets to see weaker opponents, then, . Next year I throw the JT line out on the first line, give Matthews line a break while he gets paid and now feels the competition from 2nd tier lines.

Marleau gets to sit back a bit, get paid stay healthy in case of injuries while we let some piss and vinegar take over.

haha, Glad you are not the one that hired me to be the coach cause if you do not see my light, I'd have to leave you in the dark.

( to be totally honest however) I can just sit back and enjoy this team as is with no trades and enjoy the ride. Probably the same as you and many others.

3.) 12 Jul 2018 16:19:20
You’re paying all these guys big bucks to “sit back and get paid”? These guys get paid to play, and play hard.

I understand what you are trying to do is roll three scoring lines, sure, but Johnsson has less than 20 NHL games played, and you want to put him on Tavares line and expect him to produce?

The 4th line is shutdown line and defense first, and sees limited ice time. Marleau has spent the last several years (I don’t know how many exactly) playing as a scoring winger and makes $6.25M a year. It’s definitely not the right position to be slotting him into.

I like the addition of Spurgeon for a couple years. He’s a little smallish for my liking, but it’s hard to argue against results, and Spurgeon has played excellent hockey since coming into NHL. I think Zucker is a good choice as well, having had a career year last year in Minny, he will be looking for a big pay raise, though $4M is probably a little low estimate here. Targeting Minny because of their cap situation is a good choice, but I really don’t see Minny taking this offer. They can find cap relief some other way I’m sure. At minimal, another team can make them a better offer.

Zucker/ Matthews/ Nylander
Marleau/ Tavares/ Marner
Johnsson/ Kadri/ Kapanen
Hyman/ Lindholm/ Brown

Reilly/ Spurgeon
Dermott/ Zaitsev
Hainsey/ Carrick
*Ozhiganov
(Sandin/ Liljegren)

I think these lineups make a lot more sense. Now you can roll three scoring lines and a very effective fourth line with offensive potential as well.

I moved Hainsey over to LHD, and inserted Carrick and Ozhiganov over Borgman because of experience factor.

5.) 13 Jul 2018 01:00:26
I would prefer to have Skinner over Zucker but Jared Spurgeon would be a great add to the Leafs defense.

Take away Nylander and Johnson, replace with 2020 nd and 2021 5th.

2.) 09 Jul 2018 02:16:15
Do you have Parayko’s autograph or something? Maybe he lived down the street from you growing up? Because you obviously idolize the guy to value him that highly.

These trades are terrible. You just set the Leafs back by ten years.

3.) 09 Jul 2018 02:19:09
Are u kidding me all of that for Parayko, no way, maybe without Nylander.

4.) 09 Jul 2018 04:39:18
Parayko is a great dman.

He’s not super human and certainly not worth half of what your saying.

Nylander for Parayko would be a fair trade both ways if Nylander is signed to a good contract (6x6 or better) . I wouldn’t be interested in that trade though.

5.) 09 Jul 2018 05:12:00
@ThatGuy

While you've definitely offered up way more that his objective value for Parayko, I'd bet you're closer to what the Blues would demand than people realize. Without young depth at RHD, why would the Blues be motivated to move Parayko? He's unbelievable. One of my favourite defensemen, and if he was on my team I wouldn't want to see him traded for any less than a King's ransom.

6.) 09 Jul 2018 11:25:44
Leafs aren’t giving up nylander and only need 1 defender. They would prefer to have more than 1. However, they could get another in next free agency. The Nylander + Others for Parayko is very similar to Hall for larsson, but st. louis wins a lot more. I like Gardiner; I don’t like his line mates. If leafs wanted petrovic they could have offer sheeted him. Dubas will not overpay to get a right handed defender.

7.) 09 Jul 2018 19:59:39
@LeafsGm
If he lived down the street or if I had his autograph I would probably not even talk to you.
Sure it seems like a heavy deal, (which it is) and one that soley targets him and throws an offer that most likely assures to score him and imo, he is worth it to us now and in the long run.

Mars Bars
Thanks for understanding that this is closer than what it seems to others in order to gain a guy like Colton

@Leafs Future

I feel that if we are not adding grit up front, add it on the back and let the forward motion carry on while supplying tons of grit on the back end.

I do not really like the offer sheet way as it could cone back on us so, knowing what you get, a pretty decent defender and a shed of cap space on Zaitsev who we do not even know if he can live up to his first year.

8.) 10 Jul 2018 03:55:02
No, too much; seriously?

03 Jul 2018 04:26:02
Leafs trade Gardiner, Carrick and a
2020 1st to: Minesota for: Dumba

Leafs trade Zaitsev, Timashov, Martin 2019 1st
for Barrie

Morgan - Barrie
Dermott - Dumba
Borgman - Hainsey

Thatguy

1.) 03 Jul 2018 09:20:44
I honestly think both trades are on the right track (and are close to making sense) . Min wouldn't want both Gardiner and Carrick, so I'd think instead of Carrick they'd have to throw a FW prospect, maybe Bracco for example. Then also if you're giving those 2 guys just for Dumba, all I think you'd need is a 3rd and 2nd at most, 1st seems strong.
Second trade makes sense in a lot of ways. The only thing I would change is if the Leafs are doing a 1st then COL would have to throw in a 4th or 5th with Barrie.

Leads sign JT for 10.1 mil.

They buy his 6 million dollar house behind the scenes.

JT knows NYI are further away from playoff contentions than the Leafs and NYR whom everyone or most think that they can supply JT the money to start a new rebuild.
JT realizes LOU with the tight grip and good lip will be paying lip service and nothing but.

Montreal is cap friendly wanting and urging a top tier counterman and could possibly outbid us.

29 other teams want to bid too.

Leafs send a promo package
As if he needs it. lol

JT is signing here and he leans on his agent to realise that money may not be the highest priority!

Basically can I get a HELL YA, Tavares has more reasons to sign here than not.

What's with the $10.1 mln?

Seems like a really specific number you chose.

Plus. Jets are tight against the cap and Ny will want or get all of troubas' asking price which will probably be even cheaper.
Since Peg is in tight, I would say for Trouba .1st 2018, Kapanen, Liljegren.
So those two contracts are low prices with high potential allowing the Jets to keep the rest of their main core to workhorse through while Lil maybe steps in a 6th spot to ease in. (after he learns their system)

Maybe Panarin won't sign there long term is because Torts' contract is in the last year, Managements jobs are also up so there is no stability, and maybe in Panarins' eyes (not knowing who and what other than the logo he is signing with long term) does not feel a sense of security stepping/ skating into the unknown.
