To Carolina: Kadri

To Leafs: Pesce and Rask.

Leafs get shut down right handed defenseman and third line center who is only going to play a max 10 minutes. Carolina gets a top scoring center to fill their need. Also salary comparison will not matter too much although Leafs spending a little more, however Kadri's contract is a bonus for Canes.

Not bad.

Kadri has a good contract for his skill and will be a really good leader playing between two young players who are looking to have their first full NHL season (Johnsson and Kapanen)
I want both of these players but I don't think we give up Kadri unless we absolutely have to
What I would do is trade Brown, a 1st, Leivo, Pickard, and maybe another top 9 forward prospect (Moore, Brooks) to get them because leafs already signed Ennis so they have room to spare on the wing, although Brown has a good contract too.

No way Ladri is going anywhere.

Leafs have the best trio at center in the league right now. We can roll out three credible scoring lines. Kadri is effective both as a scoring threat, and as a shutdown center, having played most of his career on the third line shutting down the other team’s top players. With a very cap friendly contract for one of the games best two way centermen and possible future selke candidate, I expect Kadri will remain a Leaf for a few years still.

Shut down center because of one good game against McDavid 2 years ago? Can you think of another team in the league that has blown more third period leads than the Leafs. ( Don't listen to the media on this subject. ) With a one goal lead and the faceoff in the Leafs end with one minute left in the game, I cringe, because I know you know who will lose the faceoff. Get a shut down center for 10 minutes a game and a great shut down defenseman like Pesce.

Kadri is not going anywhere. One of the best contracts in the NHL for his production. The Leafs will trade prospects and picks to grab a RHD.

Home games with Babs dictating matchup, putting Kadri out against the opponents top line and letting 34 or 91 feast on a third line? That will be disgusting. No way Doobie trades kadri when the Leafs can do that for the next four years. It's going to be gnarly.

Idk why people keep putting Rask in these trades, the Leafs have no use for him and we are not trading Kadri.

I watched Babs in the playoffs last year matching lines at home. Why was it every time Matthews was on the ice so was Chara? Maybe this is why Mathews was upset. Look, here is the deal. This year Kadri gets much less minutes because of 1A and 1B. You trade his 10 minutes a game and not close to another 30 goal season, while his contract and he is still valuable.

Get a Pesce and Rask in return. Pesce plays 20 minutes a game and your defensive game (almost last in the league in shots against) is solved. Not only that but you get a good faceoff guy in Rask, who has to be better in his own end than Kadri ever was.

Dave watts

Lets look Pittsburgh playoffs last year

Crosby 20:18
Malkin. 18:57
Sheehan 15:35
Brassard 13:29

Your giving Kadri 10 min ice time

Give me a break

Kadri gets 15 plus minutes a game.

And his 15 minutes is better than a shut down 3rd line center plus Peske's 20 minutes? Remember Leafs blow leads with Kadri shut down center.

As a great GM once said 'Don't fall in love with your own players. " Folks have you not noticed that Kadri is not a great shut down 3rd line center. The Leafs need one and a sh
ut down right handed defenseman. What would it have looked like going into 3rd period against Boston with this instead of Gardiner doing his usual thing?

I like the players you targeted but Kadri isn’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Our 1-2-3 punch is the best in the league. After that we don’t look good, even with Rask. We have other assets to aquire what we need.

Mathews and Tavares will both play ~20 mins a night. Kadri ~15, fourth line ~5 in a very limited role. It obviously fluctuate game to game to match up with opposing teams.

I could see the 3rd/ 4th line wingers getting a more split rotation considering the depth, with 34/ 91 double-shifting. If Kadri is going to take on a shut-down role, I'd rather have Brown on his wing since he's also strong defensively. And with Kappy and Johnsson having so much speed and chemistry, they could take a few shifts a game with 91 and 34. I'm guessing we see 8-12 mins/ game from Kappy/ Johnsson/ Brown/ Ennis but only about 6-8 from the 4C, whoever that ends up being. Assuming no bottom-six winger gets moved for a top-4 RHD, obviously.

I couldn’t agree with you more MarsBars.

I imagine Johnsson will only be used in the ozone against bottom 6. Unless he gets the golden ticket to play with 34/ 91 @ 5v5.

It’s going to be an exciting season. Even if we don’t aquire a dman I’m not concerned.

Kadri is becoming one of the best shut down centres in the game. I doubt the Leafs trade him for Rask and Pesce but you never know.
