Scenario: Marner signs elsewhere (maximizing his $ and avoiding fans that care) and the Leafs fill in the gaps with upcoming UFA's. Just a hypothetical what could be assuming every free agent wants to sign in Toronto (LOL). Bennet will re-sign in Florida or be too expensive for the Leafs. Paying Bennet 9-10 mill. per for a 50 point regular season guy would be a mistake even with his playoff dominance. Finally all Austin Matthews haters be careful when you quickly jump back on the wagon next year when he is healthy. You will know you are a fraud.

2- Tavares (3year x $5 mill/per.)

Domi is not a first line player. Period. Give him away for whatever you can get just to get the cap savings.

I must confess, I lost interest after I saw Domi on the 1st line instead of the “needs to be traded/ waived/ bought out list”.

I knew that Domi on the top line wouldn't be a popular opinion but Domi has a little sandpaper, great playmaking and two years back him and Austin had some good chemistry. Also balances the lines better than having Knies flank Matthews.

He had opportunities with Matthews this year and did nothing. He can’t defend and takes dumb penalties. Grossly overpaid.

Cgy receives: Jarnkrok(2.1 mill.), Lilligren (3 mill.), Draft pick (2nd rd) and a Prospect (cowan, danford and hildeby NOT available for trade)

Who’s gonna grind for pucks in the offensive zone on your first line? And please don’t say Robertson. He’s not a first line player. Switch him and Knies.

I think not Kadri would be better on the top line with Matthews and Marner.

They won't be digging pucks too often, it will be puck possession no dump and chase with those guys. If it does Matthews is one of the best at stripping pucks from defenders. Knies on the top line does make sense but that third line would be a big strong shutdown type line that could be necessary come April.

As far as a 2nd pairing LHD is concerned I would like to see the Leafs send Nick Robertson plus a prospect to San Jose for Ferraro.
If Seattle balks at sending the Leafs two RHD (which is likely) Leafs should try to sign Matt Roy who doesn’t look like he will be resigned by LA who will move one of their young prospects like Brandt Clarke up to the big team.

That looks like a solid blue line. Something the Leafs have been lacking for a long time. Building a solid blue line will also help whoever we have playing in net. Finally Reilly has never been given a legit top pairing partner. We need to support our core players with complimentary pieces and sorry but Lybushkin is a decent 5-6 bottom pairing defenseman but as a top pairing guy let's be serious.
