Given that Werenski vetoed a trade to Dallas to stay in the East it's a required “all in” for the buds. However I’m not sold on trading Knies. Since Knies can play either wing he could use his size and go to the net. I believe he could be a steady 30 goal scorer on a line with Auston and Gavin.
Therefore Mats needs to stand down and let our prized Swede go for Werenski to allow us more cap to sign more free agents.
We all know Willy doesn’t play a 200 foot game and Knies does. Therefore:
To Clb- William Nylander, Alex Nylander, Dennis Hildeby, Oliver Ekman-Larson, Ben Danford, Cade Webber, 2027 1st(Col), 2027 3rd
To Tor- Zack Werenski, Kirill Marchenko and Mathieu Olivier
Salary Out-(Little over 19 mil USD)
Salary In-(17.4 mill USD)

Still not sold Werenski is sold on Toronto but if the rumours are true and we have a chance I would propose the following:
To Tor- Werenski and Olivier
To Clb-Knies, Robertson, Danford and 2027 1st(Col)
I would love to see Olivier on the fourth line.
No secret the stars play a lot better when there is no fear!

Hey All! Watching the Panthers and Caps go big bodies has me wondering if we can really compete in the next two years and keep Auston!
We don’t have the assets to get Zack Wierenski.
Therefore I wonder if this would work:
To Utah - William Nylander and a 4th round pick (2026)
To Tor - Ethan Belchetz, Lawson Crouse and Terrell Goldsmith
Frees up more cap space and gets more big bodies to play right away.
Adds about 5 million in space after signing Belchetz.
Keep Knies.
Trade - Reilly, Carlo and OEL.
Acquire - Adin Hill (Goalie)
Sign - Jamie Oleksiak (2yrs), Mason Marchment (3 years), Boone Jenner (3 years), Braden Schneider (3 years) and Mario Ferraro (5 years).

I would not be to worried about 2 teams heading towards being bigger. There are still 29 other teams we have to play and get points from. We can't be worried about 2 teams. If around trade deadline it looks like we could be on a collision course with one of them, if we are a playoff condtending team then we might address it with 1 or two select moves.
But don't base your season around it.

Sorry Cujo, but the return on Nylander is ridiculously low! ?? Braden Schneider is an RFA so you’d have to trade for him! Big is great but you just made the Leafs both the slowest and biggest risk for injuries team in the league! ??♂️

Well overall it wasn’t a terrible first game! However, I’m very concerned with Morgan Reilly, OEL and Stecher. What was Morgan doing on the second Montreal goal? He was covering no one! Standing alone beside the net. He left Raddysh to defend alone all night! I don’t know why Chayka believes he can get a good return for him? He’s slow and washed up. Get anything for him and get rid of that contract! He is afraid to go into a corner and won’t take on bigger forwards. It’s the same with Ekman-Larson and Stecher.
Those two guys were skated around by the fourth line all night. The older D are scared and clearly slow. Need to inject some youth into that group. Call up the kids and let them play a few games. Danford, Villeneuve (when ready), Mermis and Rafi! They will make some mistakes, but they will give it their all!
Raddysh/Rafi
Tanev/McCabe
Danford/Mermis
We will see how they handle the Islanders tomorrow night because they can skate really well!

Well no offense Cujo but I disagree with your assessment. Reilly before that goal specifically pointed for McKenna to look out for the slot. Bolduc came through and McKenna was a statue. As far as him leaving Raddysh to defend by himself.
I think Raddysh giving the puck away so many times put himself in scrambling on defense. Also Stecher was very steady and no one was blowing around him. He takes his guys to the outside very very well and I will take his +1 any day thanks.
