Toronto trades Morgan Reilly to Oilers in exchange for Evan Bouchard & Philip Broberg. Then attempt to sign Pietrangelo as ufa
Oilers get a number 1 dman, Leafs get two possible top 4 dmen and a number 1 via free agency. I love morgan but we haven't won anything with him, so take the chance on these 2 6'-3 dmen from Oilers a righty and a lefty. You have to give quality to get quality. A draft pick may be needed as well if required.

Reilly isn't the issue and actually think if you move on from Reilly you could squeeze more out of someone in a deadline deal.

Santini was a beast at world juniors, Zacha is a great prospect and Blackwood has potential to be a good NHL goalie. Thoughts?

To Toronto- 3 ova, Murray, and Werenski
Columbus is built to win now, adding JVR and Gardiner should put them in playoffs.
Toronto adds quality young defencemen and gets to choose between Puljujarvi/ Tkachuk/ Olli or some other needed piece.

We take Matthews at 1 and Laine at 2. Winnipeg is set to compete now JVR would set them up and we would be set within about 2 yrs as our 2 picks mature.

Here is my take, yes there r some great 1st overall picks and Matthews should be one of them. However what if he turns out to be a Daigle, a Stefan, a Yakapov, a Dipietro, u only get so many 1st overall picks u can't afford to screw up. If Arizona wants him then I would want Strome (111 pts. ), Dvorak (121 pts. ) and their top 7 or 8 pick. With that pick u take the best dman available. Dvorak and Marner are magic together. Strome may never b as good as Matthews but how much better is Matthews 20?30?40? Pts. / season. Then u add the magic pair I mentioned above, and all of sudden the point totals will surpass that of the one player (Matthews), then we still haven't included that high end dman we could get at 7 or 8. Lou loves to build from the back end out. That's why I say a dman is taken. Look at Edmonton all those 1st overall picks and only one of them looks like success. Just thinking?

You're not wrong, really. But if you have 1st overall you might get torn up by the lovely Toronto media if you give it up.
Matthews provides elite level talent at centre that we need. Laine at 2 also impresses me a lot, and he was not opposed to trying to play C iirc. Strome will probably end up being a great 2C, of which we have enough (Nylander probably isn't elite 1C, would be elite 1W or great 2C imo).

YOU can't be serious. Take the last 3 yrs Trouba has averaged just under 25 Pts. And Gardiner has averaged just over 25 pts. The only advantage is Trouba is younger. I might consider Gardiner for Trouba but Marner is already 10 times better than Petan. So no way do u add Marner for that junk.

Only a 10th is a joke, Gardiner is an everyday top 4 dman on most teams. He is only going to get better. Kadri was a 7th and look how long it's taken him to establish himself. A 10th could be 4 or 5 years from showing up or not at all. Colorado adds or I keep Gardiner all day.

If there is a bad contract that Edmonton wants to get rid of then that can be added.
As far as the dude really. I said at the beginning how bad do u want Mcdavid. That's what it would take to make Edmonton think twice. Yes I believe Edmonton would win in the short term and be well set up for the future. Toronto would lose in the short term but isn't that the point we truly need to start from scratch. If we trade Kessel for the best available non nhl dman and more prospects we would be well on our way to the rebuild.(G.Reinhart, Pulock, draft Provorov or Hanifin) possibly to name a few along with Nurse.

I traded 3 of our young D and Phaneuf. To hopefully pick/get 3 better prospects in Hanifin, Reinhart and Provorov. Philly has been looking for a better upgrade in net I think Bernier had an off year and is probably better than what they have now. So at 7 do they pick an unknown or take a gamble on a known. U can always throw out a bait and see what happens.
