Lehner is a UFA this year. Chicago is probably going to give him what he wants. But maybe Leafs can try to sign him instead. We would be able to keep Kapanen that way, or trade him for someone else instead.

Send Mathews and his overpaid contract to the Montreal Canadiens and we will see how fast Montreal fans take and send him the message you can't show up when ever he feels like it. Take off the diapers and pull your underwear up and start earning your overpaid windfall. At least you can't get the fans fired.

I agree. somewhat about Mathews. When Mathews shows up to play he is up there with Mcdavid and MacKinnon as best in the world. That's a very hard thing to trade away. Especially when we factor in the 40-50+ that he is good for when healthy. On the other hand I have never personally cared for Mathews. He takes entire games off at times. I have always Nylander has another level and he seems to have found that in some ways this year. Mathews reminds me of all the same players as everyone else; Have, Bure, Kessel, etc. The guys that could be the best in the world if they gave a rubbish every night instead of when they are in the mood too. Sometimes when Mathews is in the D-zone he even looks like a selke winner with the plays he makes (rarely) but other times just skates in circles waiting for the puck.

Why does mckinnon have such a good deal?
Due to the fact his first 3 years were very very ordinary at best that colorado took the risk on him. sure paid off in year 5 and beyond
Why does draisatl have such a good contract?
Due to fact his first 3 years were just above ordinary he didn't even hit 30 goals yet
Edmonton took risk on him then it started paying off just last season
Why did matthews and marner get such huge contracts, because they showed up and did amazing before their elc was up so got paid
You can all thank mcdavid for these contracts. yes he deserves this kind of money but not until after his contract 2nd rfa contract . Like crosby, ovi, malkin, kane. they all took reasonable deals for 6 seasons then won their cups (except ovi at the time) then got paid huge the next go around while still rfas

Yes matthews and marner are still overpaid but once year 3 hits and the cap is around 100 million their deals will look paltry compared to others signing at that time.

If the cap hits 100m you are correct this will all go away as an issue. Right now that's hard to see though. It will go up 1-2 next year but probably not 10-20 the year after.

After expansion it goes up 6 million minimum. with the gambling thing in affect expect a 10% increase over 3 years. that's 98 million. this year their hits suck but in time they'll look normall. problem is by then rielly will get fair market value at 14 million. yikes. that's the buisness
Guess if you don't like their cap hit you can be mad at bettman. if someone is willing to pay me 11 million to do what i love i know i won't say no. i'm guessing 99% of you have the same answer.

Nylander I don't want to lose. He has looked really solid this season and his contract isn't a boat anchor.
If Mathews was ever traded. The return we would get would be insane. I mean Brady Tkachuk++++++ not just one for one. The days of even a one for one C for D are long gone.

I think not only should the top management personal of the leafs be fired. They should trade the big 4 and hire someone with NHL hockey sense and rebuild. The leafs will go nowhere with the lazy overpaid sucks they got now. Put the four in the press box for the rest of the season and bring up forwards from the Marlies who would do a much better job then what they put on the ice now. SHAME!

Been a huge JT fan his whole career. Toronto is just a black hole apparently. I'm not certain what happened to him this year but he just looks like he doesn't care half the time along with the rest of them.

I think not only were the leafs useless as usual, but when the canes lost thier goalies the leafs were to scared to take hard shots at Ayres in fear of hurting him. l think it was a mistake to put him in goal. Although it made a good story, l think it was an embarrassment on the NHL to allow such a unsafe and dangerous situation to take place. How would the NHL explain to the family of Ayres if he were to get seriously injured. Shame on everyone who was involved.

leafs always seem to have excuses why they didn’t win and what they need to do blah blah blah. Pitsburgh had five of thier top players out of the line up for weeks and still found ways to win because everyone stepped up and did thier jobs unlike the overpaid whinners the leafs rely on .
The more l watch them play just makes say why bother cheering for the leafs anymore. After 45 plus years cheering and hoping they would win the cup some day Is just wishful thinking.

Leafs should have named Mathews captain, never should have signed Tavares, and should have sent Nylander packing and signed a pair of talented defencemen, and a back up goalie, and still would have had money to spend. It's the same thing every year. Leafs are done this year and probably for the next three to four years.

Got to remember every team Babcock coached were all talented with stars and future star players. That's why his resume looked good. He is now coaching one of the best hockey team that was ever put together, and no one seems to get it that the players don't respect him. Until leaf fans realize this the leafs are going no where. I want the leafs to to win the cup as l have been a leaf fan over40 years. If there is no change in personal, we will be talking about what happened they should have one the cup, and continue to talk about what went wrong when we all know what went wrong.

What l don't understand is the amount of money spent on Mathews and he can't even play a 83 game season because he will burn out. l sometimes hear people compare him to macdavid lol mathews is no where near the caliber player macdavid is. l would trade mariner mathews nylander for macdavid But do you realy think Edmonton is that stupid. mathews after he got his money he laughed so hard on the way to bank his pants fell down. And mariner just runs in circles wondering where he will spend his money lol.

Unless the leafs get a coach to use his top players in critical moment's and stop with his bull of benching young stars and give them a chance to shine and give them confidence they eventually won't play for thier coach and and then where do they go? Like kadri seen the light and is glad to be out of Toronto now he can play hockey and not be insulted like he has been since Babcock started to coach him.3rd line and fourth line what a joke. And to be honest l believe the rest of the players are starting to feel the same way. I am all for firing Babcock and get rid ofhis egotistical ways. not sure how much longer l can watch the leafs with that ignorant ahole behind the bench.

I think Toronto now has to many young stars and its all about them. They expect someone else to do all the work as they are stars and supposed to score. Why would anyone want to stand up for them when it seems they realy don't care. They got thier money now they show up when they feel like it. They need a tuff presents in the room to keep them honest. when martin was on the team guys like Mathews Nylander grew an extra 2 feet now they have no protection teams banging them up and leafs GM doesn't get it. with out some physical presents and toughness they are going no where.
