Leafs have a few bubble players that I think they can use to make trades to maybe move up in the draft or just get more picks..
Nielsen: he seems like he's been with the Marlies for a decade and it still seems like he's not made any steps closer towards the big club.
Holl: I think he's an nhler two games two goal honestly don't know why he wasn't given more of a shot he played great with Dermott but if leafs don't wanna use him get a pick
Brown: the reason why I say this is cause with Kapanen and Johnson coming into the mix plus other player I just see him playing on the fourth line like a good part of the season There's just less and less room.
And there's others like Carrick,Rosen Polak etc....
Who do you guys think the leafs should take in the first round the way it looks they may get lucky again with merkly

You forgot to mention Lievo.
We should be targeting a stay at home RHD who can clear the net and chip in on the rush occasionally. According to mock entry drafts, Matthias Samuelsson falls right around where Leafs will be drafting. He’s a real big kid that has a lot of hockey IQ and will continue to grow physically and develop his game. If Leafs can get him, would be a nice pick.

If we could put together a package that consists of a few fringe players and not lose anything of significance off the current roster, then sure, we should trade up. The problem is finding a team that is willing to take our castoffs and a lower pick.
I don’t see us trading into the top 10, but Philly and Ottawa both have two first round picks projected to be higher than Toronto’s. They might be willing to make a trade like that.

So kinda quick thought....
Leafs have options here this offseason I think it is getting a lot clearer that we can't afford jvr if we want to resign the big three..
So here's what I'd like to see the leafs do
Resign Komarov to a one or two year deal 3 mil per and place him as our 4th line center he is naturally a center and if Babs trust him on our top pk as a center why not.
Next I watch the Detroit leafs came the other day and one thing that stood out to me was the speed of Athanasiou I think the leafs can get him cheap...yes this means we lose Bozak but we add a lot more for a third line center between the leafs two bullets Johnson and Kapanen that would hands down be the fastest line in the league
And lastly with the leafs letting jvr go they they have a ability to improve their back end and sign Carlson.
Next years line up if this were to happen

The only thing I see wrong with this lineup is the lack of vets in the forward position

I actually posted a trade suggestion for Athanasiou a while back ago. Everyone else was speculating about Glendening, and I proposed something like Lievo, Carrick or Nielson, and a 2nd for Athanasiou. My proposal didn’t receive too warm a reception. I agree he would be an upgrade over Bozak for 3rd C and would fit well with your suggested line mates. What would you think would be a fair price to pay for him?
I too would like to see Komorov back. He’s a hitting machine. $3M seems a bit much though. His age is going up, while his stats are going down.

I think Leafs give him a 2-3 year deal with the salary being something between 3-4 mil per i think what the leafs do this offseason will show where this team will go from here on out jvr will be missed everyone says he only one dimensional but he takes our power play to the next level.

Athanasiou for picard bracco martin. Detroit wants to get younger they get a speedy small prospect one of the top ahl goalies. Martin is a cap dump for getting two higher end prospects. I also think toronto should run sparks as backup instead of macelhiney next year.

He didn’t come to terms with Detroit until October this season. If Wings can’t sign him, we can always tender an offer. As long as it’s under $2M it wouldn’t only cost us a third round pick.

I have been a proponent of Leo as 4C for quite awhile. Still unhappy about giving up a 2nd for Plecanic when I think Leo could have done just as well. Two years at 2.5M sounds about right. 4C and PK.
Doubt Wings give up Athansiou as a good, young centre prospect on a rebuilding team, he wouldn't come cheap. Some confusion as Stortstrac lists him as a UFA and Capfriendly lists him as a RFA. Reading through the NHL rules, he seems to fall into the RFA category, so still under Wings control.
Stasney would make a good centre between the two speedsters, 6M for 2 years.
I was a Carlson fan, but after looking through his underlying stats and history, I am not sold on signing him to a big, long term contract. Smells like Dion 2.0. Defensively weak, even this year, and his scoring has been up and down in the past. I would pass and let someone else overpay for him. Greg Pateryn would be a better target and fit. Big, defensively strong, agile skater with good first pass. Good pairing with Rielly and only 26YO. $3.0M for 5 years.

Spider you mentioned going after stasny I think he’s a great player but I also think that the price tag is way too high leafs need to use their money to improve the back end and Greg pateryn isn’t the solution yea he’s cheap but he’s also bottom pairing if the leafs wanna keep moving forward our best option is Carlson he’s big can be offensive but can also play defensive I know you said he’s weak defensively but under Babcock I think he going to do well. The other option is wait till next summer and try and sign Doughty if he wants to come.

For one nylander will not play center he’s more of a winger if anything I’d throw Marleau in the 3rd line centersecondly why would the leafs sign a winger they have winger coming out their ass I’d rather ya our money to upgrade our d and fill the third line center spot.

I agree with you with possibly waiting till next off season the only think I would recommend is instead of getting Schenn back why not insert Holl he’s 6’4 rhd he’s good with the puck and has the size to throw around and has offensive upside and he played great with Dermot.
