A few things I'd like to see happen prior to next season.
At the drft:
Tor Trades: #16 pick (pitsburgh) , #60 pick 2016 (wash) 6th rd pick (Tor) and Viktor Loov or Stuart Percy
? Trades: 8th Overall pick 2016
Toronto selects Mikhail Sergachyev or Tyson Jost
Toronto selects G Carter Hart with our 2nd rd pick
Resign P. A Parenteau (hard worker, strong leader, good role model for all the rookies playing next year for leafs)
This adresses the need for a big D prospect, strong goalie prospect, and someone to show the kids how to be a pro.

Toronto selects Mikhail Sergachev
Toronto drops down to take Nylander, but moves up to grab Sergachev. They also pick up an early 2nd rd pick this year. Helps our defense by adding a big D-man with a hard shot, and a skilled winger to play with Nylander.

As a long time Leaf fan. i'm preparing myself that leafs will not receive the 1st overall selection just like yourself. I really think the Leafs want to select Jakob Chychrun if they cannot select Auston Matthews. I would put my money on a drop down scenario just like yourself if the Leafs get the 2nd, 3rd or 4th but I don't believe getting into the top 10 twice is realistic. Hopefully there's an event where we can get the 10th or 11th pick and select Michael McLeod. Since Nylander, Sosh and Kapanen were called up to the big club, I've found myself going to a lot more Steelhead games. Alex Nylander has some impressive skills. Really impressive actually but the speed, hands and overall demeanor of McLeod have me in awe. I like this kid, see a huge Giroux comparison with his game and his competitive attitude. I held high hopes last years draft that the leafs would try to pry one of the top 3 or possibly get 2 in the top 10 but was pleasantly impressed with their drop down tactics to acquire another pick to select 2 guys that can become something rather than loading up and paying for a prospect who in all rights has the same chances if becoming an impact NHLer as someone drafted in later rounds.

I would like to see chychrun too but the Oilers also will want him if they don't get the 1st overall. In the end they may have to choose between him or one of the two Finns.

Juolevi . I am not as big of a fan of him as I am Chychrun or Sergachyov. Juolevi can really move the puck but I think the other two have more of a chance of becoming a number one d man, where I see Juolevi as a second pairing guy. I am trying to figure out what the Leafs do if they draft fourth and dropping down would definitely be the move. There are several players vying for the fourth spot (Chychrun, Thachuck, Dubois). Dropping down two or three picks can still give you a similar talent. I don't think the Leafs can get a second pick in the top ten though. If the pens finish 16th, and the leafs are willing to trade up using a SJ second rounder, this will probably only merit moving up to the 11th pick based on past draft pick trade evaluations. This is a move I think they should still do as McLeod may still be available at 11 or I am a big Tyson Jost fan

If they want Nylander why drop down and risk him going before their pick? Why not just pick him at #4 if that is who they really want?

I'm not a huge fan of the Reimer trade, it didn't further the Leafs rebuild.
This is a trade I would've liked to see, considering that Nashville is looking for a backup goalie.
To Nsh: James Reimer
To Tor: Jusse Saros, 4th rd pick (2016 or 2017)

Ultimately we didn't get much. but we shouldn't really complain he's a UFA at the end of the season anyway and weather we resign him or not he's really not a part of the leafs future plans. We get a pick and a player who can plug a hole that the trade deadline will produce and it allows a better look at Sparks and Bibeau

People are thinking isn't is a lot worse than it is. We trade Reimer because he asked for $6 million on his next contract, and it was unlikely we would sign him for that. We basicallytradd nothing (as Reimer most likely wouldn't be with us, and Jeremy morin didn't have much of an impact) for something (stalock doesn't matter, but we got immediate marlies help in Ben Smith for their Calder cup run, and a fourth round pick).

Swap out Gauthier for Brooks Laich and give him an "A". His presence in the room and on PK will go a long way with developing the young stars in the lineup
