Things seem to be positive these days in Leafland. I know it's a bit to ask but here's my Wish List this off season:
Leafs get the #1 Pick - take C - Matthews
Convince C - Stamkos to sign and be the leader needed for our young team. (free agent)
Convince (Hobey Baker Winner) LW - Jimmy Vesey to sign with us. (free agent)
Sign D Zaitsev (free agent)
*Try to put together a package to add another Top Ten Pick - even it means using the Pitt. first as part of deal.
We need to focus on upgrading the back end and Goal.

Love the ideas and would be an amazing dream to wake up to! To trade up into the top 10 would take a lot.
Probably looking at a trade like this
To TOR: 9th pick
To TBD: 25th pick (Pitt) + 31st pick + F - B. Leipsic
It's worth doing as the Leafs still have a 2nd and 2 3rd's to manouever with!

Toronto - JVR to Calgary
Calgary - sends (19 yr old C) Sam Bennett and a 3'rd round pick
Really like the character and age of Bennett - he would grow and mature with Leaf prospects like Nylander, Marner, Brown, etc. Very good center

I think that for the edmonton trade you would need to switch the 2nd for a 3rd and we would have to take a contract back like purcel

As a Leafs fan I love it, which means it's likely not realistic. Draisaitle's value keeps going up, so to combine what is essentially two 1st RD picks (33rd is close enough to a 1st) that's a lot.
Take out the 16th OA, and maybe there is a deal to be had. Leafs may need to take back a bad contract as well to make it more attractive.
Other option is keep both EDM picks in, but Leafs add the 24th OA. Then EDM may like this proposal a lot more.
Leafs should extend Bernier's contract (bridge deal) to make his value even higher, IMO.

Possible. Ari would want Kadri for the third overall. They don't want defenders. A Kadri and #24 might do it

It would be nice for sure but I think Arizona would want Kessel or Kadri going there way for the #3 OA pick.

What would we be gaining by getting rid of TWO of our core players moving forward?
Laine will be a decent player but so will Rielly and hopefully Nylander. In my opinion.

Carolina has already stated that "D" Faulk is NOT going anywhere - he is one of their core players.

Toronto has a lot of forwards in the system - mostly at RW.
IF we DID trade JVR - Calgary @ #6 might be a team that we could work out a deal with.
Then, it might make sense to take one of the top "D" guys rather than a forward.
Preference would be to KEEP JVR and try to work out a deal with Calgary using a combination of other pieces such as C Bozak and prospects / picks - Kapernan or one of the many RW on the Marlies and maybe throw in our #31 OA.
Any thoughts?

Hate the thought of letting Dermott go because I think he will develop into a very good all round "D".
It's a very good thought-out "Offer" - could work for both teams if proposed.
The problem is that they are needing help on the back end already so it seems a bit foolish giving up Dermott.
More quality if you're Drafting at #5 would be a FORWARD - personal preference for Tkachuk - "D" from about #8 or 9 down.
That's my two cents.

Sid Slam, it's like I have a little Angel on one shoulder and a Devil on the other as I go back and forth about "Should we KEEP MATTHEWS / OR / at least listen to TRADES.

IF we were to even consider dealing Matthews to Arizona, we would START the conversation with -
To Tor - OEL, Strome, the #7 OA this year, #22 this year
To Arizona - #1 OA this year, #31 this year
(Switching our #31 for their #22)
So, in addition to OEL and STROME, we would get #7 & #22 this year.
YES, I agree it's a lot but that's what I would need to at least CONSIDER trading MATTHEWS to Arizona.

IF we were lucky enough to get the #1 Pick we would most definitely KEEP the pick and take MATTHEWS.
He is a CENTER with quality that we have not seen since SUNDIN was here.
We have lots of Quality Wingers in the pipeline - so I FOR SURE WOULD DRAFT / KEEP AUSTON MATTHEWS.
What a great core of players going forward.

Spitfire - I'm mostly in agreement with you BUT with a sli ght change - I want FABBRI but instead of the #2, change it to a #3 in 2017 PLUS another #3 in 2018 - Easier for the Blues but it could possibly help the LEAFS depending on what happens to St. Louis over the next year or two.

Kadri does more than just scoring / points - now is more of a well rounded player. His creative play making skills are top notch especially on power play.
At his age, I'd take Kadri ahead of Ladd.
