Off season trade: this team is not the same with Matthews in the lineup. So many times players should be shooting but they always look to pass to Matthews. It’s like other people feel guilty shooting when he is on the ice. So I’m putting together another package for him in the offseason.
To Tor: Hertl, Barbashev, Kolesar, 2026 1st rd pick
To Vgk: Matthews, Reaves
Next year roster:
Patches JT Nylander
Knies Hertl Marner
McMann Domi Barbashev
Lorentz Dewar Kolesar - Kampf, Holmberg.

Unless it's Makar coming back, I don't see a winning trade that involves Mathews.
Definitely need to stop looking for him on every possession in the O-zone, bur their is a reason for it. He's an (almost) 70g scorer.

I think I could get behind a few trades, but this one isn't enough.

Just throwing out some different ideas but I think we as Leaf fans can’t ignore how much better this team plays when he isn’t in the lineup. We all have our reasons why but we can’t dispute the facts of our record when he is out. Whatever the package is or wherever it comes from, we should keep an open mind to this topic IMO. If we have another early playoff exit, I’m sure more people would be on board and if they go far, I’ll eat my words.

Matthews to Buffalo for Dylan Cozens and Buffalo’s unprotected 1st round pick in 2026.

Ludicrous to even consider trading the generational Center
Enough already.

Is it on Matthews tho I mean I put it more on marner.

I think both Marner and Matthews benefit greatly from playing together.
Matthews needs a setup man and Marner benefits from a great shooter.
Marner is a co-MVP this year with Stolarz.
If one HAD to go (which may happen) I would trade Matthews. I think he commands a better return and as stated Leafs have shown they can win without him.
I don’t like the Vegas trade much but I’d want Tuch with Cozens and a 1st.

Only problem for me RSears is that Matthews has NTC and I don’t think he would accept a trade to Buffalo. Has to be a contending team, but maybe there is way with a 3 team deal? That would get interesting.

Don't need to trade Matthews. Just put him with Knies and McMann. 3 big bodies that can skate, go in corners and can shoot the puck. I think the whole idea of Matthews "needing" a set up man is over stated. He can score 40 without Marner. Then, as I have said before, I would put JT, Marner and Nylander together. Then Domi in the middle of Pathces and whoever is going well if a trade doesn't happen. Get McBain and he plays with Domi and Patches on the 3rd line. Dewar, Kampf and Lorentz as the 4th line.

It’s a tough choice to make for sure.
Don’t need to trade either IMO.
40 without Marner is certainly do-able I agree but far off his 69 last year!
In that case at $13.5m I’d rather have Tuch and Cozens; 2 for the price of one plus something for the empty cupboards. Both Tuch and Cozens are big men with physicality.

Rsears. That's all fair. But if it's Buffalo, to me, it starts with Thompson and Cozens then likely a 1st + prospect.
