A while back a member suggested that we trade up to get Liljegren. A good idea but the suggestion was a expensive for the Buds and based on mock drafts we would not need to move up that high to get Liljegren. Dbone ridiculed mock drafts saying they weren't to be trusted. Folks, mock drafts are important. They reflect revised analysis on drafting kids. It's incredibly uncertain. If the Leafs traded up we would be throwing assets away.

This is a horrible trade proposal. All three pieces have some value to the leafs albeit in depth roles. The potential in Leivo is middle six. I think Marincin makes $1.25M. If we need space just bury him and save $1.025M. Fehr could also be buried. But both provide depth. That is worth more than a 5th to the Leafs.

Why does everybody make such complicated trades? Leafs need a RHD, it will cost them a 2-3 pieces. Hopefully, JVR and a pick or prospect.

Unfortunately Demers might be the most likely d-man they can get. I'd prefer Trouba or Myers ( with Kulikov signed they might be looking to make a move) Vatenen or Tanev. Demers would be the cheapest option though.

I'm not sure I understand you. You're saying LTIR will give them relief from salary? Insurance does pick up most of the salary paid but they don't have anyone on LTIR. If you're saying cap wise it has no effect. Florida is a BUDGET team. They have an internal cap of $65M (they are over that amount already with players still to sign) .

Definitely see JvR being traded unless he doesn't get fair value back. If he doesn't bring fair value back it is better to keep him. How can you replace a consistent 25-30 goal scorer?!
I would not trade him straight up for Demers or Miller and I don't think Vancouver is looking for a quality top-6 winger that they could lose after a year. I think Vancouver would want a prospect/ pick type of package.
My targets, in no particular order, would be:
Tanev
Trouba (Larry Brooks indicates he's not available)
Myers
Ellis
Dumba (Minny no longer needs to move a D-man)
Manson (not likely available)
Vatenen (not my 1st choice, but would be an upgrade for sure)
Montour (dark horse pick! )
Of that list I think Tanev or Demers is the most likely candidate.

Manson is at best a second pairing D-man. He is not the answer for a D-man to play with Reilly long term. That kind of D-man would look like a Trouba, or a Hamilton, or a Doughty, or maybe a Parayko. Trading for those players would mean giving up Marner or Nylander.

I really like that Manson is tough to play against and a RHD. That is an element the leafs don't have enough of. I am less enthusiastic about the others. Vatenen could be a fit but Rielly and Gardiner are similar.
