With the signing of Marleau it is safe to assume the Leafs are in talks with a few teams regarding JVR, for a top four RHD.
Targets being Demers or Tanev.
Each scenario

JvR and Leivo
To Canucks for
Tanev

JvR (2 mil retained)
To Panthers for
Demers and 2018 2nd

Tanev for JvR I think Canucks need more than JvR coming back, maybe they even want a young D. I don't know.

Panthers are trying to spend less, so for the 2 mil retained they throw in a 2nd to save some money.

Unfortunately Demers might be the most likely d-man they can get. I'd prefer Trouba or Myers ( with Kulikov signed they might be looking to make a move) Vatenen or Tanev. Demers would be the cheapest option though.
