So this is my idea of how to clean up the cap and get get Willy moved out and help out the D....it's a 3 way trade between Leafs,Jackets and Flyers...

Jackets:
Nylander

Leafs:
Peeke & Konecny(.500 retained)

Flyers:
Marchenko
Lafferty
Robertson
Timmins 24 1st pick from Leafs

Leafs sign Comtois for $850,000

Leafs get help on D and Konecny that adds heart and works hard

Jackets get added offense

Flyers get a good prospect in Machenko...Robertson who need a change of scenery Timmins who is added depth on d and Lafferty...hate to throw him in but needed to to clear up cap and make room for Comtois and they get the 1st round pick

Before everyone gets all over Peeke and his +/ -. Lets look at some context that goes with it.
He was a -22 in March and April alone in only 20 games. He was only a -13 after the first 40 games, but the second 42 a -28. Why?
Werenski only played 13 games at the start of the season. Gavrikov was a -8 in CLB after 52 games and a +12 in only 20 games with LA. Peeke was a -19 when Gavrikov left.

So, Gavrikov gone, Werenski hurt, Gudbranson missed 22 games, Bean missed the rest of the season after Nov 15th (68 games) .

Peeke was asked to be basically the #1 D or a true top pair D, which he isn't. The team sucked and didn't win much down the stretch. No one on the team was a + player.

Peeke is a big, physical defensive RD that is cost controlled for 3 years and can play in the top 4. Forget what he did in Columbus because it's irrelevant to what he could be in Toronto.

@Bob1965.i disagree bob. if you break it down i see it as this:

Lafferty for Comtois is a wash if you ask me, get extra cap space

Jackets get Nylander

Leafs get top line heart and soul in your face top line guy that can replace most of Willy's goals. but plays playoff hockey. and a young tough big right D for a great cap hit he is an upgrade on Timmins easily.

so it's Marchenko, Robertson and 2024 1st round pick for Konecny who the Flyers don't have to trade with cap retention. in 2 years i'd rather re-sign Konecny for what Willy is looking for.

I personlly love the top 2 lines with all that heart and grit we'd get from Bertuzzi, Domi, Konecny. make it easier for our 2 skilled guys to move around out there. in a year when JT is gone we can resign these guys.

@Loxley1972 I think Leafs are giving up too much as well.
2 separate trades
Nylander alone should fetch Peeke & Marchenko.
Then we can trade Marchenko, Robertson and a 2024 1st for Konecny.
We don't have to trade Timmins and Lafferty IMO.
And Comtois is still part of the Hockey Canada investigation and I think he is one of the more involved players having a 1999 birthday.

I don’t think it’s too much Lox. If you make a trade that Bob likes then it’s a miracle. Maybe a 2nd instead of a 1st rd pick. Nylander and a couple guys struggling to make our lineup for a top 6 forward (IMO will have more of a positive impact than Nylander. He shows up for the whole 60 minutes. ) and a top 4 D man that we desperately need. Works out with salary retention.

I get it seems like a lot and my adition of Lafferty and Timmins was done in order to become cap compliant. if they are not needed by Philly in he deal then fine. but they either have to be traded or we try to oass them thriugh waivers s droth pieces. if you are worried about Comtois and the investigation tgen remove his signing abd add McMann. but still dies not chanemfe the fact that timmins and Lafferty ned to move. eve though i like laff but the only place his cap hit is a problem is on this team.

I like the basis of the trade.
I have been a Konecny fan since before he was drafted.
I was upset and couldn’t believe that Wiz Kid passed on drafting Konecny only to trade down and select Travis Dermot and Jeremy Bracco.
I never liked Dubas’s trades, selections or FA signings.
Missing out on a heart & soul guy (something Leafs are seriously lacking) was an egregious oversight on Dubas’s part.

Peeke is just 25 with only 195 games in the NHL.
It is generally accepted that a defenseman needs roughly 300 games of experience before he can be accurately assessed.

@BOB1965. Of course-41 is brutal. You like Jenner? He was a -33. Peeke has never been worse than a -14 prior on a bad team.
If you don't care how a player got his stats, that is a brutal way to evaluate how good he is.

Seems like a solid prop to me. Leafs are getting Konecny at 50% will cost a good bit, so may seem like an overpay, but may be what it takes.

@tags and RLF. it was .500k. and I they would be cap compliant with Comtois. but I had to trade Lafferty and Timmins or try to bury them if you think it's too many pieces going out. dunno that either get you much in the way of drat picks what with how many ufa's are left

With that said. if Philly would retain 50% and you think that is a fair deal even better as well get to keep timmins and laff.

Add Konecny at $5M, Peeke at $2.75M, Comtois at $.850M would mean they have to clear $10.6M.
Willy, Timmins, Robertson and Lafferty are just about $10M. Wouldn't they have to clear another player?

@RLF. not according to cap friendly. that lineup I posted gives us a 21 man team with 5.mil retained on Koneckny ee are left with cap space if $115083.00.gambrel and Jones sent to minors. if ya don't like Comtois or something comes if the Canadian junior team enquiry then we bring up McMann.

@RLF. Dunno that Philly would fit 50% retained. if so I say definitely. wd gave cap space to spare. as for McManni say saying if it turns out Comtois was involvedin that juniors mess then we don't sign him and just bring in McMann for 4th line.
