I have been seeing that Mrazek has been linked to the Blackhawks. I think we should target Dylan Strome in this deal as well.

Leafs Trade: Mrazek, 2nd, Abruzzesse
Blackhawks Trade: Strome

We would still need to shed the contracts on Holl and Kerfoot to afford a Goalie.

Thoughts?

Mrazek will not get any kind of return. I have been saying for weeks Mrazek to Chicago. Mrazek for Connolly straight up makes sense for both teams. Mrazek plays for Chicago and Leafs buyout Connolly and get about $2.68M in cap space.

Love to get Strome - friends with Marner / biggest deal would be to unload Mrazek. This might take more than Abruzzesse - we don't have many picks left so really would not give up the 2nd - maybe prospect instead.
Good idea ALF like your thinking.

I am aware that Mrazek will not get any type of return, think of it as Mrazek and Abruzzesse to shed the contract and the 2nd for Strome. If it’s costs any more than a 2nd or B level to prospect we should just buy out Mrazek as I do not want Connolly.

I fully agree that we have to move on and find a trade partner for Mrazek. We simply need cap space.

I also agree that a decent package would be needed to get a trade done.

His 2021/ 22 was very bad, for sure, but he still has a 2.64 GAA and .909 SV% so he is not the trash that everyone says.

How much did his injuries hurt him last year? Is it difficult to play in Toronto listening to everyone say you’re trash?

Abruzzese could be a decent NHL player in the future. Leafs don’t have a 2nd round pick.

I don’t think the Hawks want to trade Strome (Kane says NO) so maybe a different Hawk player should be targeted.

Keep Abruzzese and send them Mrazek, Kerfoot and Holl and take Tyler Johnson’s $5m salary off their hands. He’s a very speedy, feisty and versatile forward who can score, with Cup pedigree.

@Alberta. It costs less to buyout Connolly than Mrazek. That is why Leafs make the Deal.

@Rsears look up Mrazek game by game. He's had a few great stretches, but also entire seasons like this one before. I do believe he is that bad, always have.

@LL
So Mrazek, as you point out, has had 3 bad years in his 11 seasons, as defined by GAA of 3.0+.
The balance have been good using a GAA of 2.0 - 2.7 except for a year @ 2.89 which is labeled as respectable.
These labels are not mine but those of paid analysts.
Two of his three years were years where injuries occurred and games played were lower.
I hesitate to call him a bad goalie but I will agree not one I’m comfortable paying $3.8m!

Depending on what I’ve read and how I feel that day I flip-flop between who I think is the player we most need to trade.

I’ve taken Mrazek out of this debate because, for me, he is a given.

The two are Muzzin and Nylander.

Today I would say Muzzin because of his concussion history and his age. Sign Lyubushkin at $1.9m and you replace Muzzin’s physicality.

Now, Nylander’s offence remains and in a position where weakness exists. After Marner and Nylander who do we really have on RW?

But Nylander can still be described as a bargain. And did I say he’s an enigma and only plays with enthusiasm with a Swedish logo on his jersey.

Oh darn, let’s keep Muzzin and trade Nylander!

No, on second thought let’s move them both with Mrazek to Arizona and you fill in the return!

Okay, now I feel better!

The collective outlook of mrazek is he's very injury prone. Going back to his Detroit days. I'm not sure he can go even half a season without spending some extended time on the IR.

If you really look at Mrazek's career, it has progressed like many goalies that get figured out by the opposition. Mrazek was quite strong as a young goalie in Detroit. Pretty much each year though, his numbers climbed in a negative way. Once Detroit felt he was not their goalie moving forward, he spent a year in Philly that was a disaster. He had solid enough numbers in Carolina, but so has most goalies that have played there the past 5 years or so. The fact that Carolina felt they needed an upgrade this season on Mrazek and went with Andersen instead, should be a warning sign right there. His Toronto season greatly resembles his Toronto season. I don't expect much from Mrazek and he is difficult to play in front of as a defencemen because he is overly aggressive.
Martin Jones, Cory Schneider for example, have had similar career paths. The older they get, the worse it gets.

I don't think we can look at Mrazek's numbers in a vacuum. Look at what Carolina does for every goalie. Raanta, Freddy and Mrazek all had issues until they became starters in Carolina.

Rears, love your post about Nylander and Muzxin.
LMAO.
