So Leafs got Raddysh.
If they are listening on Knies, I would hope it's a huge return. The team that makes the most sense to me would be San Jose. They have the pieces to make the deal and trading Knies in the East would bite big time.
I am not for trading Knies in general, but if they do.
SJ
Knies $7.75M
Rielly $7.5M
Carlo $3.5M
Tor
Dickinson $1.8M(with bonuses)
Misa $4.255M (with bonuses)
Chernyshov $.945M
Wetsch $1M
SJ gets a power forward in Knies at a perfect age for their group. They need D especially with Dickinson going to Toronto.
Rielly needs a change of scenery and would slot behind Orlov. Carlo would fill into the 2 RD role. They brought in Kesselring for the 3 RD already. They take on all of Rielly's contract.
Leafs get their 2C in Misa allowing JT to move down, Top 4 puck moving LD in Dickinson, a good size right shot RW that can score in Chernyshov and physical likely bottom 6 role player in Wetsch who should provide some depth scoring.
That's the type of return I would want to see if Knies is going, but I doubt he is.

Definitely over paid and added extra years but that’s a problem for tomorrow. Today, the Leafs got better.

I’ve heard that the Leafs were looking at a top-pairing D and a 1st plus another player, but with Raddysh being brought in and getting paid idk if Knies makes sense to trade now. My big thing is it can't be a futures-based trade.
I’d like a top young centre plus maybe a 1st and something else, but to me none of it makes sense. Just keep Knies who hasn’t even peaked yet and build out the depth.

If the Leafs are sending that I’d want Misa, Dickinson and the second overall pick. Leafs could add Avs first from next year or a second this year.

Ckps. If they take on Rielly and his whole cap hit, don't think you get the 2nd overall. If losing Dickinson in a deal, the Sharks likely use that 2nd overall for a D-man to replace him. Why they may do the deal I mentioned.
With the 1st overall, Leafs would be adding McKenna (likely), Misa, Dickinson, Chernyshov and Wetsch while creating more cap space to chase a guy like Tuch and maybe Marchment.
D with Raddysh and Dickinson added to McCabe and OEL starts to look pretty good, especially if Tanev can play again and they still have Danford+ developing.

Of course Knies would be perfect in SJ, he would be perfect for any team. That’s why everyone is inquiring about him. Should be more incentive not to trade him. But all you guys are after is guys that get points (which we’ve had for years), we need character players that go in the dirty areas and stick up for each other.
Think of our top 6 without Knies, who is sticking up for Matthews when he gets hit? Misa, Nylander? Cowan? Guys would kill the team moving this guy, not even in his prime yet.

Clarky. I made it clear that I wasn't advocating for a trade of Knies, but if the Leafs are to do it, which I have no control over, then I would hope a big return is coming. I said San Jose also makes a good trading partner for the Leafs. Many have said they are not wanting to trade Knies, but if the Leafs might they throw out a prop. Let's not make Knies out to be something he isn't though. At least he is not yet. Knies is not really a fighter.
3 in his career. He has fought Whitecloud, Hischer and Ludvig. None of them are really fighters or heavyweights by any means. He didn't go after Gudas when Matthews was injured, Domi did. Wetsch is a scraper. I also mentioned later to ckps that with the extra cap space Leafs could target guys like Tuch and Marchment.
I don't think anyone wants to trade Knies, but is about if the Leafs do and what we be a good return. Most get how good he is likely to be.

Trade Reilly to Vancouver and send Robertson and a pick with him. In return get EP. No retention of salaries. That’s the trade to make. 2C with the guidance of the Swedish meatball (Sundin) to help him with his confidence. Hiller PP guy will know how to unlock his offense again.

I suggested this over a month ago. Totally agree. Cheapest way to get a 2c.

@RLF, I don’t care if he is tough, he sticks up for his teammates. Most won’t even push a guy after a dirty hit on one of their own, they look at the refs with their hands up. Who on that return you got from SJ is gonna go in front of the net or get into dirty areas? Back to a perimeter team.
If a package is coming from SJ, Sherwood should be a part of it. Need guys to fill roles. But again I would not move this guy unless it’s a Massive overpay with a legit power forward coming back as part of the deal.
