Personally, I think Marner plays the season and walks into Free Agency.
But I definitely would prefer a trade if possible.
Either way, I don't think Leafs he is re-signed.
What do you guys think it the most likely scenario?

I think he plays out his contract in Toronto. Tries to get as many points as possible for a huge payday (somewhere else) . He holds all the cards, can simply say no to any trade.

He can play his card of rejecting a trade but ultimately the Leafs control his 8th year, his playing time, and the way in which he is utilized. They can have a huge impact on his "career" contract. Include the fact that they could easily have it leaked that he refused the trade forcing him to deal with fan and press backlash. Oh and how do you think his teammates would react to the fact that he'd essentially be putting them in a worse position because the team would be without any asset in return. There's a zero chance he stays the entire year. His weak mental game would never be able to handle those things.

I think he plays it out. 8th year is nice, but u don't see him caring enough to agree to a trade.

@JDBU76 I seriously doubt the Leafs will cut his playing time and play him on lower lines just to spite him. The Leafs goal is to win, and like it or not, Marner helps the team win.
I would love for him to agree to a trade, but he controls his destiny. You may be right about the pressure, Marner may crumble with the outside noise and lower his value next year.
That's still to be seen.
Anyways, I truly hope a trade can happen.

I agree. He will waive if asked. I said the same as you before on here that all the Leafs have to do is leak he wouldn't waive if he won't. I think he might be ready to go anyway if he knows the Leafs want to move on. He will want to prove them wrong by going somewhere else and playing great.
Although, we have no idea if he has been asked to waive.

The 8th year is nice for some players.
Others, like Matthews, only want 4 years because the cap is going up and 4 years from now the new contract will see a substantial increase.
I think if Marner and his camp are smart they provide the Leafs with a list of 2 or 3 teams he would be interested in playing for long term, signs an extension and waives his NTC for those teams.
Otherwise the negativity that will surround him for the coming year will be overwhelming.
What player would want to play under those conditions?
Why would anyone want to stay where they are not wanted?

Here how I see it he doesn’t stay why? … because we have all seen how he plays when he under pressure can you imagine what the fan/ media pressure will be if he sticks around it will eat him alive and being a contract year I don’t think it’s best for him or the leafs.

I think the Leafs present him the best chance for a Monster year in his contract year. Unless he goes and plays with someone else of Mathews' calibre.
