2017 draft isn't that weak, its still a year away so lots of time for the players to grow still. Lots of players in this draft that moved up a lot after being nobodies not long ago.

Edmonton is taking Dubois or trading the pick, Pittsburgh is looking for a first round pick so they might be a trade partner for Edmonton. Leafs don't need tkachuk. If they are trading JVR it should be to get a pick and a D-man. Jersey might be open, especially since Lou should have a good relationship there to maybe swing Larsson and their first. Just don't know what they'd want with JVR to get that done.

I can't see Arizona offering that much for Matthews, but that's almost what it would take to give him up.

Jones may be better than Gardiner, and but Saad isn't better than JVR right now. And the point is, you don't tank all year and win the right to take Matthews for an even trade. You just don't trade him. The only way the Leafs would move him would be for something completely ridiculous that the league probably wouldn't allow a team to do.

I like the JVR to Devils trade if they are going to move him. Larsson and another pick in the top 12 would be great, but I'm not sure just JVR gets the deal done. Might need a pick to go along with it the other way.

Why give away a bunch of young guys before seeing how good they are? I remember a trade similar to this. Except it was Owen Nolan and we sent Boyes and colaiacovo. Boyes ended up putting in a few good years before coming home to Toronto. Colaiacovo played well enough we could have kept him and not gotten Nolan.

You are talking about two different management groups. And Andersen isn't a bad goalie, the Leafs gave up a pick we got from pittsburgh this year, and a pick in next years draft. We can make a trade and get another draft pick for next year if they want. The Leafs don't want to become the Oilers and just try to stock pile high draft picks, they need to win a little too, build on each season. As long as they don't make lots of trades for players over picks or prospects like people on this site like to suggest, they will be ok.
