Just thinking some more about that Devils pick

Leafs trade Brown, Lievo, 2x2nd
Devils trade 1st (17th)

Like Lievo, Brown is likely to fall victim to Leafs depth at wing. He’s a good player that NJ will find useful. We give Jersey 2 second round picks so they get an extra shot at landing a late surprise. And we now have two first round picks ourselves, giving us the opportunity to draft a couple high quality prospects.

Brown is not worth a first. And Lievo isn’t worth anything. So what if we give Jersey an extra 2nd? We got an extra one to spare. Chances are greater the 17th overall pick is going to work out for us than either of the 2nd round picks we are giving away.

Like I said, Brown is rapidly falling down the depth chart, and he is going to be simply pushed aside in another year or two. His value has already dropped since scoring 20 goals a couple years ago. We are better off trading him now while we can still get something.

Why don’t you guys make a suggestion on what you think the 17th oa pick is worth. You have provided no input here to back up your comments and contribute nothing. You bring nothing to the table but empty words.

I think you could take the second 2nd rounder out and that’s good. I wouldn’t give up on brown. I like his game but I understand what you are saying, trade a position of depth first BUT may I suggest moving brown ina delanfor a dman? Maybe in a deal for klefbom for example. I’m sure mcdavid would love to have brown on his wing again. Just thinking out loud.

I like the idea of trading with NJ for the 17th pick. Not sure Brown and Leivo are enough but it might get the talks started. With the 17th pick Leafs would have a shot at Lundestrom who is considered to be one of the better centers in the upcoming draft.

In my honest opinion, I don’t like the thought of trading anyone off the current roster to bring in picks. Unless we are receiving someone who can contribute to the team right away, we should stick to trading our UFA’s and fringe players like Lievo and Carrick to amass picks. Those second round picks can turn into useful players for ourself.

I was going to suggest simply trading Gardiner to Jersey for the 1st, but Mackin has posted it about 8 times.
