Here's what I've got, and I'll explain after:
TOR- Gardiner, Bozak
CAR- 2017 1st, 2017 3rd (NJ)

TOR- JVR, Loov, 2017 4th
VAN- 2017 1st, Tryamkin, Burrows

CAR instantly improves 2 areas of weakness, D (there's nothing behind Hanafin and Faulk), and C.
VAN adds scoring, a decent D prospect to replace Tryamkin, and a whatever pick so they at least have 5 in the draft next year.
TOR would wind up with 3 1st, 3 2nd, and a 3rd in next years draft, which would give them more than enough firepower to trade for a top RHD come draft time. Tryamkin has some promise as a huge young RHD with a cannon of a shot from the point (still needs to adjust to NA ice size) down the road. Burrows had to come for cap issues, but he could be relegated to the press box all season for all we care, on last year of contract. This trade drops 2 contracts from our 50 limit, and sheds a ton of cap during/ after the season to go fishing in free agency next summer and/ or to make deals come draft day.

Let's hear what you think.

I can see Vancouver giving up their 1st as the twins are nearing their production decline. Tryamkin may never deliver offensively, but that may not be a concern. Burrows should come here to coach.

I'm not sure Carolina will give up a 1st unless they determine they are not in a rebuild. Gardiner is the prize and it's possible they may want to push now.

The deal might be a little light initially for the Leafs, but they have replacements ready within the year; Dermott and Neilson.

Good deals; just need to convince Carolina to give up it's 1st.

Carolina has two 2nd's and two 3rd's at the next draft, so losing the 1st and a 3rd isn't going to hurt as much.
Also, I was basing these trades on the thought that even though the leafs should improve this year, it's still likely to be a bottom 10 finish, and these are moves for the future.

Yeah I don't see either of these two trades actually being done, but I do think they're both reasonable and wouldn't mind seeing this happen.

Teams just don't trade 1st round picks anymore! Especially teams in the lottery position like the Canucks and the Hurricane. Change the 1st rounders to 2nd rounders and the chances would be more realistic.

Sid, Arizona, Boston, Anaheim, Winnepeg, and Carolina all had 2 1st Rd picks at the last draft, so yes, teams do trade those picks.
Another point regarding Carolina, they finished with the highest number of overtime losses in the league last year at 16. They were a competitive team that just wasn't good enough to finish games. Adding a decent 2/3C who's defensively responsible and good for 40+ points a season as well as a legit top 4 Dman would probably be enough to push them into a wildcard spot.
Van on the other hand, with Benning at the helm, I just don't think it would be too hard to take advantage of them and get that pick. They still think they have a window and act accordingly.

Carolina is actually strong on D talent in the system, and they just drafted J. Bean this year as well. They are weak at forward. Not sure they make that trade.

Neither deal seem too appealing on either side. If the Leafs acquire a 2017 1st, I would flip the lesser of our own and that pick + a prospect for Trouba.

I can see JVR being dealt eventually but he's young and he has one more year left on his team friendly contract. Would Vancouver give that up for him? If they do good deal for the Leafs (especially if Vancouver becomes another lottery team).

The Carolina deal is interesting but I honestly don't see the Leafs giving up on Gardner. He's blossoming under Babs and would only work if Carolina becomes a lottery team again. Bozak is a terrific fit and should go for a 2nd and 3/4th pick by himself. Our weaknesses are specifically on the defensive side so I don't see Gardner being dealt anywhere. Good post.

Wonder if Vancouver would be crazy enough to trade Juolevi instead (minus the 4th)?

So the Leafs should get rid of Bozak and JVR and go with nothing but kids without vets to help them our? What a dumb idea.

Faulk, Hanafin, Fleury, Mckeown, Slavin, Pesce, Bean.

I would say that is one of the better defence/future defence corps in the league.

@DBF - so Hunwick, Polak, Laich, Martin, Greening, Komarov, Lupul and Michalek don't count as veterans?
