How would you feel about this interesting trade?

Toronto trades William Nylander to Carolina for Noah Hanifin.

Two players of arguably similar value who are dealt from source of strength to fill an issue of need. Anyone need ro add?

I wouldn't even think of doing this personally. Don't trade the big 3 for any D man. We don't need big names. Look at Pittsburgh success, even without letang.

2.) 08 May 2017 19:19:44
Agreed. No trading from our new young core!

3.) 08 May 2017 21:53:46
It's a fair trade but I just don't think the leafs are going to trade of the young 3. Kudos to you though for actually proposing a fair trade for both teams.

Lou Lamouriello pulls off 2 trades to fill the need for Leafs to move forward.

Martin Marincin Shea Theodore
Jeremy Bracco. Clayton Stoner
2nd round pick (2017)
From Ottawa

Then flip

Theodore. Trouba
Wllliam Nylander. Adam Lowry

Leafs get the right handed d man they covet as well as big physical center in Lowry who should mesh with Martin on the 4 th line. Lowry is a good face off guy and penalty kill.

Jets get young left handed d man who will replace Trouba but on the left side which is what they want. Nylander would add offensive skill to already impressive young core and could look good feeding Laine the puck For his big one timer off the left side.

Leafs really covet Trouba which necessitates the first deal with Ducks to get the assets needed by Jets to get the deal done.

Confusing and stupid, good job

This guy might either be Pinball or Luca

Hey, its approaching January, so time for another epic Toronto - Calgary blockbuster trade.

Maple Leafs get. - defenseman Dougie Hamilton and center/ winger Sam Bennett as well as Flames 1st round pick in 2017

Flames get. - center Nazem Kadri, center/ winger William Nylander, Alberta born defense prospect - Andrew Nielsen and Leafs 2nd rounder ( from Ottawa ) in 2017.

In another possible deal
Toronto trades JVR and emerging offensive prospect Jeremy Bracco to the Islanders for shut down defenseman Travis Hamonic.

1.) 20 Dec 2016 23:46:37
Your crazy!

2.) 21 Dec 2016 12:24:16
Kadri is signed for 5.5 more years. Leafs love him long time.

Big NO to trading Neilsen; Gardiner goes before him. Andrew has a big shot, hits, fights, good passer, skating is getting better, and defends well. Leafs will love him long time too.

I like what your trying to get, but you are trading parts, the Leafs won't want to give up; even for Hamilton.

3.) 21 Dec 2016 18:03:40
Hey lab16

Leafs do not LOVE #43 long term. If they did, they would have given him a NTC. They didn't even give him M-NTC. Very tradeable contract for the right deal.

I do not think they love a former top 10 pick to be their #3 center for the remaining 5 1/2 years of his contract.
I predict he is here for the first 2 maybe 3 years of his contract then they move him. If they feel they are much further ahead in their team development in that time frame, he is gone.

They are going to have to pay Matthews, Marner and Nylander then. Yes I predict Nylander outlasts #43 here. At least he should, so much more skilled. They can find a #3 center anytime. Look at Chicago, their bottom 6 changes yearly.

4.) 21 Dec 2016 18:12:45
Rumour mill has Calgary interested in Kadri to go against McDavid. If they are willing to let a RH shot like Hamilton go I think the Leafs do that deal and hold onto Bozak for a while.

5.) 21 Dec 2016 18:29:04
Chrisdafish

I completely agree. If the leafs could upgrade blueline for #43 he is gone tomorrow.

6.) 21 Dec 2016 20:32:21
What rumour mill? Please post a link

7.) 21 Dec 2016 21:58:06
Calgary has no reason to let Hamilton go, and have made it clear they wouldn't. Mr. Truculence was all miffed that anyone would suggest it a month back or so. (So entertaining)

@ Chris
You give a reason why Calgary would want him, just completely dismissing the fact that the Leafs would want to keep him for the same reason. Kadri is a class A agitator and worth much more than his current contract. He improves each year and he can score.

@Rocket
Kadri is perfect for the 3rd line center job to play against the opposition's top line . Now when's the last time a team did well with 3 scoring lines? Hmmmmm! Besides, Babcock's shifts are fairly short, and he plays all his lines.

8.) 22 Dec 2016 02:45:58
@lab16

So you think 3rd line centre is more important then a chance, if presented to upgrade your blue line? Glad you r not GM.

You didn't even address the fact they did not give him a NTC which on a 6 year contract is almost unheard of someone making 4.5 AAV. Not even M-NTC.

He is gone when they can upgrade D. Face it.

Who said anything about 3 scoring lines? Rookies I mentioned r playing top 2 lines top 6 minutes. Your boy is is on 3rd line checking.

9.) 22 Dec 2016 03:07:54
@lab16

By the way "Mr Truculence" is a F@@@@@ idiot. Why any media outlet wastes their time interviewing him is stupid.

Trade JVR while his value is high!
Leafs and Islanders make a trade.

JVR and Jake Gardiner

For.

Nick Leddy and. Ryan Pulock.

Sid Slam

1.) 16 Nov 2016 14:05:47
they are not giving leddy

2.) 16 Nov 2016 21:40:39
Fine.

Then Dal Colle, Strome, and Pulock.

3.) 17 Nov 2016 16:53:45
They aren't giving up Dal Colle and Strome. how does dealing JVR for 2 young forwards help the Leafs biggest need. defense

09 Oct 2016 17:49:57
After watching Leafs throughout the exhibition games, defence must be viewed as a concern.
Really believe Leafs are looking to add a big name here before the season opens in 4 days.
Forget Trouba, the name that keeps coming back to me is Kevin Shattenkirk. Because, he will be a UFA next season, the price for him might be not so prohibited.

Holland, Leivo, Connor Brown and probably a 2nd rounder from next year would be players I might throw out there and see what happens!?

If that doesn't fly, another player who has been mentioned on this site would be Anaheim's Josh Manson. Wouldn't he be an interesting possibility?

Understand that Buffalo would not make this trade within their own division nor would Toronto for that matter but I think the dynamics would be interesting.

Toronto trades William Nylander , Jake Gardiner and one of their 2nd round picks from 2018 to. Buffalo in return for Ryan O'Rielly and. Rasmus Ristolainen

Buffalo would have the dynamic Nylander brothers and the puck carrying defenceman they need. Toronto gets an upgrade at center for Tyler Bozak in O'Rielly who is also a premier penalty killer and would fit well with Marner and JVR and Ristolainen is the big right handed dman they covet.

Leafs could now move Bozak ( Blue Jackets ) for needed depth.

Regarding Leafs Lunch analyst Patrick O'Sullivan's comment about the lack of contribution by Connor Brown on Auston Matthew's wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I believe O'Sullivan is a real dufus but he got his head out of his ass to get this one right. Brown has NHL speed but lacks hockey sense and pure skill to add much to Matthews arsenal. Sure, he works hard and plays good defence but adds litle offensively to this line.
We know Babcock is a stubborn SOB when it comes to " his guys " but Nylander or even Soshnikov needs to play on the right wing to get Matthews going.

Sid Slam

1.) 18 Feb 2017 18:21:07
Brown has less games played on that line than Hyman and has one more point.

After the deadline assuming no trades (or now) :

A 3rd line of Leivo, Nylander, and Hyman will solve the issue. Two fast big bodies should help Nylander.

Pine sitters (Bozak, Smith, Marincin)

Defence:

Reilly, Zaitsev
Gardiner, Carrick
Hunwick, Polak

Rotate Marincin for Hunwick for back to backs.

Offence
JVR, Kadri, Marner
Komarov, Mathews, Leipsic/ Kapanen (which ever heals faster)
Leivo, Willie Nye, Sosh
Martin, Hyman, Brown (Hyman has played center) (Sosh and Brown are interchangeable,

Rotate Bozak in all 4 center positions at times that require a rest for each center due to back to back's, minor injury, poor play, and of course if there is an injury. Use Ben Smith to rotate the RW.

Left wingers can be replaced by Hyman or Sosh if required.

Both Leipsic or Kapanen are extremely quick and can fire the puck where as Komarov provides a veteran fore checking presence on the line. (After the deadline only) .

2.) 19 Feb 2017 00:00:59
Leivo is a big body but is not fast by any means. His skating is sub par.

10 Dec 2016 17:44:42
Don't get why posters are such Zach Hyman haters? Those who say he has no business being on Matthews line obviously are not watching the games. Leafs best fore checker, wins the battles in the corners and behind the net and is an underrated playmaker. The guy who is a passenger on this line is Connor Brown. Has done nothing for the past 6 games or so. Good speed but too small to compete for the puck. Personally, if not Nylander, I would like to see either Soshnikov or a call up of Kapanen given a look, replacing Brown as the rw. on Matthews line.

Sid Slam

1.) 11 Dec 2016 03:47:00
I think Hyman is doing a good job playing on his off wing and adds some hustle and grit. They looked good together tonight. Always open to new idea's. How about trying Lievo on that line when he comes off IR. Natural LW with some grit and good shot. TGive Komarov a rest day and try Soshnikov and Hyman with Kadri. Lots of grit with better scoring then Komarov and Brown. Brown back to the 4th line.

2.) 11 Dec 2016 16:19:02
Who hates Hyman?? Nobody hates Hyman.

Hyman is a bull in a China shop, with excellent quickness and evasiveness, and some offensive talent. Probably will score 20 goals by the end of the year. He is good on the back check. Plays the whole game. He has good size, so probably could initiate contact a little more.

When I watch, I see a player who gives all every shift.

He has been excellent to date.

3.) 11 Dec 2016 16:20:41
Wait, my bad.

The other teams defencemen hate Hyman because he's always scrumming with them behind the net and in the corners.

It has to be tiring.

Would a William Nylander. for. Dougie Hamilton trade be a start of a conversation for these 2 teams?

Sid Slam

1.) 23 Nov 2016 13:38:25
I'm not a Nylander fan, so Yes. But there are others that love the Smurf.

But I seriously doubt that Hamilton is going anywhere unless Mr. Truculence is involved. Maybe he needs to make up for the severe damage he caused in Toronto.

Please tell me why Detroit would possibly want to aquire Roman Polak?

Sid Slam

1.) 31 Oct 2016 12:42:30
Solid hitting Dman. Punishes the opposition. Responsible defender. Good for playoff bound teams. Shhhhh. Let's demand a 2nd for him.

Cmon Davidmackin, Bozak is a RFA and Carolina is not a contender. that's a bad combination. But not is all lost, Toronto would love that deal!

Professor, you need to go back to school! Gardiner couldn't tie Dougty's skate laces and Moore and Bracco are long shots to make the NHL. If you want Doughty, include Marner or Nylander to a couple of 1st round picks plus a top prospect like Liljegren or Kapanen. Otherwise, wait til he becomes a RFA and offer him a boat load of money.

Have to agree with D bone! If you can get Justin Faulk from Carolina for that package, you should grab it and run before Carolina comes down from that drunken stupor! Problem is Hurricane would never agree to it. William Nylander might get it done. Faulk, if were to be a Leaf would easily be Toronto's best defenceman. If you hadn't noticed top two d-men don't grow on trees.

If Leafs trade JVR, it will be to the Ducks where a trade makes the most sense. In order for Jvr. to have value, he needs to play with a center like Getzlaf

Return could be as much as Josh Manson or Shea Theodore and a first round draft pick. That would be best case scenario.

Way too much from Toronto! If both teams want to solve their needs, it should look more like this

Toronto trades. - JVR, Bernier and the 30 th pick overall

Anaheim trades. - Andersen. and. Cam Fowler

Toronto gets their long term solution in gosl and on defence. Anaheim gets a good return in JVR for a RFA goaltender who they are going to lose anyway. Bernier will be lost in the draft and be a servicable backup and the 30th pick will ease the loss of Fowler.
