Saw this on editorinleaf today, just wanted to see what people think.
3way blockbuster
J.vanRiemsdyk (LW, 4.25M x 2yr), J.Leivo (W, 613K x 2yr), R.Polak (RHD, 2.25M x 1yr)
Winnipeg Gets:
J.Gardiner (LHD, 4.05M x 3yr), K.Bieksa (RHD, 4M x 2yr), K.Kapanen (W, 863K x 3yr), OTT 2nd Round Draft Pick 2017, SJS 2nd Round Draft Pick 2017
Toronto Gets:
Cam Fowler (LHD, 4M x 2yr), Jacob Trouba (RHD, 3M x 2yr), Clayton Stoner (LHD, 3.25M x 2yr), ANA 1st Round Draft Pick 2017
1.) 17 Nov 2016 19:46:20
A good blueprint for a trade but Winnipeg would probably have to add something because they're only giving up Trouba at this point.
2.) 17 Nov 2016 22:07:15
Jets jump all over this one. Gardner, Bieksa, Kapanen and two 2nd's for Trouba. DEAL!
3.) 17 Nov 2016 22:12:39
The writer must be from Winterpeg.
The Leafs are throwing 7 pieces into the deal, Anaheim 3, and Winnipeg 1.
Ridiculous, just ridiculous.
Anaheim get the middle pick in the 2nd round; that leaves only the Leafs pick. That means no 2nd round picks.
3 way blockbuster;
No! Two way swindle.

Let's say the leafs actually do have a chance at Hamilton (highly unlikely)
Leafs- Hamilton, 2nd, Chris verstege
Flames- gardiner, JVR
hamilton = JVR
Versteg, 2nd = gardiner
1.) 15 Nov 2016 19:42:04
That's a tough one to figure out. If Calgary is looking at getting out of the basement then I'd be looking to get their first in that deal but I'd take Weidmen back to convince them. I'd be trying to pry andersson away from them too. Jvr has to have a bit more value than Hamilton right now. This is one of those steps a rebuilding club makes. Gardiner is at his ceiling right now bring a good puck moving 3-4 dman with defensive deficiencies but Hamilton is not at his ceiling yet. My deal would be.
To Calgary, jvr, gardiner and some unsigned guys like pinnich (sp) etc.
To Toronto would be weidmen, Hamilton, first and some prospect (ah la poirier)
2.) 16 Nov 2016 01:45:57
Don't like the first one; JVR and Gardner for Hamilton and a 2nd. No thanks.
The second one has potential, but, welcome to the "Cap Age". Cap is a trade-able commodity and has to be considered. 11 m vs. 8 m is just to big and doesn't fit under the Leafs salary. Also crowds an already crowded blueline. Weidman would have to be @ 50% retention and swap Corrado for Pinnich. Would also want Andersson instead of Poirier. Wideman could become a nice piece at the trade deadline. Getting Hamilton and a 1st for JVR and Gardner is a coup.
3.) 16 Nov 2016 12:29:29
JVR for Hamilton straight up
4.) 16 Nov 2016 15:14:56
So how do Leafs fans take it when they trade away two good players for an underachieving defender who was part of the ridiculous Kessel trade? Dougie is not coming here.
18 Oct 2016 14:31:36
So it's looking like (D)max gildon out of the states u17 team will Ben going somewhere in the top 10 in this years draft. Just to sum up the season, don't trade for trouba. I'm pretty sure Lou wouldn't want a guy who handled the situation he said in the way trouba is. Instead think drafting multiple Dmen. Package deals to top ten pick teams
From Toronto
Gardiner
2nd
Prospect(likely kapanen)
For
1st
Cap dump player
This would benefit a team looking for a QB on the pp. gardiner is getting better and I believe this deal will get you a 1st by the end of the season.
The second package is more offensively strong
Toronto
Bozak
JVR
2nd
For
1st
Prospect
JVR and bozak by the end of the season should get you a top ten pick alone. By adding the second you might see a Bprospect come our way too. If needed depending on how high in the draft tor finished (I doubt top 5) we could also package our 1st with bozak and keep JVR but once he resigns, that might cause problems when trying to resign the prospect she we have. I.e. Matthews marner nylander and possibly a surprise late blooming Dman.
I think this would be the best bet because of the salary cap. And I feel you can do what Nashville did and draft your defence and actually have a solid offensive crop Toronto could go all the way.
Thoughts?
1.) 18 Oct 2016 16:21:31
Thoughts? You want them to pick up D but have them trading Gardiner?
2.) 18 Oct 2016 17:14:41
I figure by trading gardiner you would be able to look at picking up a big stay at home dman with some offensive upside, instead of going with an offensive D core and paying gardiner more than he's making now once the leafs are ready to win. Instead you could trade gardiner pick up the guy(s) you want and mould them into a player that 3 years from now will be asking 4-5mill to play along side rielly once the leafs can win a cup, instead of paying gardiner 5-6 for 25-30 assists. What you don't seem to understand is that the leafs won't win a cup in the next two years. Marner Matthews and Reilly can't carry this team for 82 games. Which is what every leaf fan seems to think is going to happen this year or the next. Look at all the teams that win the cup. They need some top line rookie contracts so they can sign big contracts and sustain a winning line up. You can't do that with gardiner
3.) 18 Oct 2016 22:39:16
Gardner isn't going anywhere. IF a trade occurs it's be at the trade deadline for picks and/or in the offseason when the expansion draft squeeze hits.
4.) 19 Oct 2016 14:54:23
I did mention in my last post that by the end of the season these packages may be worth a 1st pick. Should have implied that the trade would take place around the deadline when we know who's closer to the bottom of the standings and know who we are keeping on D during the expansion. should have read the whole post and not jumped to conclusions

Buffalo Sabres Rasmus ristolainen is a RFA and is "doubtful regarding a contract extension." CBSsports
He's 22yoa and stands at 6'4", 220lbs
In 3 yeas he's improved from 4pts to 22pts and last year had 41pts if that's not a potential stud I really don't know what is.
My last post was :
Toronto: ristolainen
Buffalo: 2nd + 3rd + D prospect or gardiner(if necessary) + lupul + kapanen
Sign ristolainen to a 5 year 30mill
Now I know it's an over payment but you don't get a stay at home dman that is that big and improving by such a large margin. Furthermore not only do we give them a prospect in kapanen that won't be on the team in 3 years so they eat lupuls salary but we grew up almost 9mill in cap. (If they need gardiner to complete the trade.
1.) 05 Sep 2016 18:35:29
Now just take into consideration that NJ traded Larson to EDM for Hall. ristolainen is younger and better, we will have to overpay by a mile to get a dman for Riley or let him suffer trying to keep Anderson from getting butt f***** by teams like Washington and Montreal. Which would just ruin another Toronto goaltender.
If this is better how about
Toronto ristolainen + 2nd (1st if they make the conference finals)
Buffalo JVR + d prospect (probably anyone but Reilly for obvious reasons) + 2nd
2.) 05 Sep 2016 20:31:39
we got a good stay at home prospect that can move the puck in Vailev.
He played 10 games for the Leafs with no goals against when he was on the ice 120 mins of NHL hockey
and zero goals against through the Marlies playoff
3.) 06 Sep 2016 01:20:19
Chiarelli got hosed. Nobody else in the league, except maybe Benning in VAN, is going to pay that price for a Dman.
No chance Lou would make the offer you laid out, and if BUF proposed that, Lou would politely suggest they go fornicate with a cactus.
Just stop using Hall-Larson as the bar for trade values. That was a one off robbery. If you insist on using that as your valuation, then only do trade proposals with EDM, like McDavid for Gardiner, Nugent-Hopkins for Hyman, or Eberle for a gallon of Aloe Vera so Chiarelli can recover from the last time he got burned.
4.) 06 Sep 2016 02:13:47
agreed but would you flip nylander for him?
5.) 06 Sep 2016 17:35:05
No, I wouldn't move Nylander. Not now anyways. Nylander has been overshadowed somewhat by Matthews and Marner, but he's still one of our best prospects, and a cornerstone of our future. He is not expendable if we have any hope of climbing the depths of mediocrity and becoming a perrinial cup contender.

Toronto: ristolainen
Buffalo: 2nd + 3rd + D prospect or gardiner(if necessary) + lupul + kapanen
Sign ristolainen to a 5 year 30mill

Good grief.

Just wondering what people would pay for ristolainen given the stats, potential and large improvements I stated in my last post? So I Lou did trade for him what would be a fair deal considering what a dman of his caliber has demanded in a trade? I really believe he would be a great fit with Reilly and if acquired this season would take a lot of pressure off Reilly as well.
03 Nov 2016 10:36:34
STill think you'll need you addd a first to get josi. Since it looks like we are picking top ten, it won't happen. Also we are going to need to take Back some cap. Josi only makes around 4 this year. No way we can dump that much cap and not take back some dead weight. also with short contract in JVR who will be asking for a lot more next year, I don't see the ducks taking a chance unless they are making a serious run in the payoffs and they can't score near the trade deadline. Doubt either trade happens.
01 Nov 2016 10:18:14
Josi isn't going anywhere to begin with. Second we would need to add a first round pick, keep polak and add gardiner to even have a chance at josi.

I have to agree, the leafs overpay here. Why not:
Gardiner + bozak
Ristolainen + 2nd
The thing about the trade is the leafs can't afford it. They are going to have to sign ristolainen to a nice contract close to Reilly and molson just isn't worth much at this point. At least this way we free up about 7-8mill 2-3 after signing ristolainen and get a pick for bozak
