I hope Matthews stays but with the rumours of him not being all in on Toronto, what could be a solid trade return? I feel like this cheap ass management group will still be committed to a 'retool' even if Auston wants out, so maybe something like this:

Leafs get:
Nico Hischier
Simon Nemec
NJ 2026 1st overall pick (12th overall)

Devils get:
Auston Matthews

Matthews could probably be sold on the idea of playing with his buddy Hughes.

Also, would save some cap space for other moves. Would want some kind of assurance Hischier would resign/extend in Toronto.

Crazy times.

With so much time between now and the draft, we have all kinds of time to speculate on what the Leafs could do with the 1st overall pick. I think the obvious choice is take McKenna but what kind of trade offers do you guys think could make sense for Toronto?

Here's one:

Leafs get: Robert Thomas, 2026 11th overall pick, 2026 15th overall pick

Blues get: 2026 1st overall pick and Macelli

Does St.

Louis even pick up the phone for an offer like this?

If Toronto decided to trade the pick this is the sort of deal I would want in return.

Great trade. I have a really hard time passing up our pick, but really good thought.

The return would be good for Toronto but I think if I was St. Louis I would hang onto Robert Thomas and use the picks. They are total rebuild and there are a couple guys that will be available in those spots that will be good pieces for them. But good thought.
